Dear Prospective New NCS Family,
Thank you for considering Northwest Christian School for your family. For more than 40 years, NCS has been committed to our mission to: “Provide a bible-based education of excellence that enables students to develop a Biblical worldview”. This letter is designed to give you an overview of the NCS admissions process and policies.
If you would like to schedule an informational meeting and campus tour, a student shadow-day visit, or a tuition assistance consultation, the first step is to submit an online inquiry or application via the NCS Website www.ncsaz.org. Once you have submitted an online inquiry or an online application, you will receive an email invitation to connect to Blackbaud ID (our school information system). Once you have created a log in, you will have access to your NCS enrollment portal so that you can self-schedule appointments, upload required application documents, and register for events.
If you are ready to submit an on-line application for children ages 16 months through 12th grade, for either the on-the-ground or online campus, go to www.ncsaz.org and select “apply now”. Create an account and then select the appropriate application for each child: Mini Crusaders, Preschool, Elementary, Middle, High School, Online School, or Frameworks (9-12th grade electives). Select the appropriate school year, for example 2023-2024 or 2024-2025, and the future grade level (or current grade if transferring mid-year). Complete the application and digitally submit online with the one-time, non-refundable application fee. Please complete a new student application for each student applicant. Each family will have one NCSAdmissions portal for all of their children. After submitting the application, you will get a detailed “next-step” email. Each parent/guardian will need to have a separate email address to initiate parent-specific log in credentials.
The required documents needed to complete an application file vary by the child’s age, program, and grade level (see below). Students entering K-9 will need to register for a placement test from the enrollment checklist. The NCS admissions process is paperless. Please upload all required documents directly into the student’s enrollment checklist. Both the Pastor Reference Form and the Teacher Recommendation forms need to be sent digitally from the portal to the church leader and teacher of your choice. Adigital signature from at least one parent or guardian is required for both the ParentAgreement and Doctrinal Statement. If an item is not available, you can upload a letter of explanation into the portal line for review. For homeschooled students, use an online template of your choice to create homeschool reports cards, transcripts, etc.
Early Education & Kindergarten (ages 1-5)
-Signed Early Ed Pastor Reference Form (K-12 uses a different digital form)
-Signed ParentAgreement
-Signed Doctrinal Statement
-Copy of Birth Certificate
-Copy of Immunization Record (or State Exemption form, see link in portal)
Grades 1-6 (in addition to the above)
-Up to two years most recent standardized testing results (grades 2-12)
-1-2 years of end of year report cards showing all semesters or quarters and most recent progress report
-Attendance record, varies by grade
-Teacher Recommendation
Grades 7-12 (in addition to the above)
-Discipline/conduct record from prior school year
Grade 10-12
-Unofficial copy of high school transcripts (no placement testing required unless testing into Honors courses)
Standard Online & Flex Online Students
Follow the above by grade level. The digital Parent Interview Questionnaire may be used as a substitute for the Pastor Reference form and family interview, but this varies by program and grade level. Placement testing is completed online.
Frameworks Students
Only the application, birth certificate upload, and class registration form are required
NOTE: Students with an IEP or 504 plan should have this document uploaded first, along with the NCS parent cover letter provided via the portal link. NCS is a rigorous program of education and we are able to honor some, but not all IEP/504 accommodation requests.Applicants with low or failing grades or conduct or attendance infractions may be required to wait at least one full year before re-engaging in the admissions process to demonstrate consistent progress that is in alignment with NCS enrollment policies.
Once the application file is complete with all required documents and the placement testing results received, the file will be reviewed. If approved, the secretary will then reach out to you to schedule a family interview (grades K-12) with the Principal. NCS does not schedule interviews or placement testing for Preschoolers, Frameworks students, or online students. The family interview requires that both students and parents attend. Acceptance letters are sent out beginning in March and throughout the spring and summer as openings emerge. Wait lists are possible in some grades, even after an interview has been completed. Once an acceptance letter is received, a family has 10 business days to accept the offer to enroll by submitting the annual registration fee and enrollment agreement via the portal. The annual, summer “What’s Next” packet is emailed to the families of all new NCS students in early June. Packets are also available for office pick-up over the summer and posted on the portal Resource Board.
May God bless you as you seek a Christ-centered education of excellence for your family.AsArizona’s only exemplary accreditedACSI school, it is our goal to exceed your expectations. Our Lord and Savior has a perfect plan for your family and I join you in trusting Him. I am truly blessed to serve you and look forward to getting to know you in the months ahead.
Joyfully Serving Him, Michell Redd

*NCS has more qualified applicants each year than openings in most grades and cannot guarantee enrollment or waitlist position by date of application. NCS considers many factors when accepting new students including: church/community involvement, written parent testimony, doctrinal/parent agreement, academic records, prior teacher and NCS faculty recommendations, family size, alumni status, sibling enrollment status, NCS employee status, application completeness, family interview, placement testing, classroom space, student conduct, and attendance records
Qualified students that remain on the waitlist in August may have an opportunity to enroll during the school year should an opening occur Waitlisted applications are not automatically carried over into the following school year and must be renewed in January by sending a written request to: Michelle Reddy, Director of Admissions, mreddy@ncsaz org A prior year waitlist status does not guarantee enrollment the following year Students with D/F grades on a recent report card or conduct infractions may need to wait one full year to become eligible for enrollment Students with IEP/504 plans should upload a copy into the enrollment portal for an NCS Principal to review before applying to the school

Calculating the GPA: The formula Northwest Christian School uses to calculate the cumulative GPA is based on equating percentages with a quality point. The quality points used by NCS are:
Grading Scale Quality Points
Grading Scale Quality Points
98 – 100 (A+) 4.33 (prior to class of 2019) 77 – 79 (C+) 2.33
93 – 97 (A) 4.00 (prior to class of 2019) 73 – 76 (C) 2.00
93 – 100 (A) 4.00 70 – 72 (C-) 1.67
90 – 92 (A-) 3.67 67 – 69 (D+) 1.33
87 – 89 (B+) 3.33 63 – 66 (D) 1.00
83 – 86 (B) 3.00 60 – 62 (D-) 0.67
80 – 82 (B-) 2.67 0 – 59 (F) 0.00
*The graduating class of 2019 and beyond will earn up to 4.0 (5.0 for honors) cum GPA. An “A” (93-100) = 4.0 points, everything else remains the same. To calculate the GPA, the semester grade for each class is equated to one of the above quality points. The additional quality point for a 5.33 class (5.0 for 2019 and beyond) is added after all quality points have been totaled. The total quality points are divided by the number of classes that have been taken for credit. The final result is the GPA (grade point average). At the end of each semester, the GPA is recalculated for the cumulative grade point average.

Northwest Christian School Elementary
at All Levels
Galileo is an educational assessment that is used to gauge student growth throughout the year and measure individual student proficiency. It is based on Arizona State Standards and is aligned to AzMERIT proficiency cut scores. Galileo allows us to gauge student mastery across all math and ELA standards as well as predict how our students compare to public schools
Galileo gives teachers the opportunity to see what students come into the year knowing with a pre-test This test helps teachers monitor and adjust and allows them to move through content that students have shown mastery in quicker or deeper It also allows them to focus on skills students are missing.
Elementary Gifted Testing
In our elementary program, we identify gifted students via testing in order to better understand our student needs and equip our teachers with knowledge to accommodate classroom lessons and teach accordingly.
DIBELS 8
We use DIBELS 8 primarily in our K-2 classes to monitor the development of reading and literacy skills. DIBELS measures reading outcomes of individual students and provides grade level feedback for teachers to inform instruction and provide targeted interventions. DIBELS breaks students into four categories, Negligible Risk, Minimal Risk, Some Risk, and At Risk and we use that data to further support students in 3-5th grade.
Pre-ACT
Pre-ACT is a predictor of how students will do on the ACT, while allowing students to practice questions similar to what they will see on the test.

PSAT
High school students sit for the PSAT in the Fall of their Junior year The PSAT-NMSQT is one additional way to best prepare them for the ACT or SAT The PSAT is highly relevant to future potential as they focus on the skills and knowledge learned in high school and provide insight for college success Students receive unique SAT practice recommendations, an option to show colleges and universities that students want to connect with them, and assess skill levels and readiness for college and career The NMSQT or National Merit Scholarship is awarded to the highest achieving test scorers in the nation and can provide scholarship money and a competitive edge on some college applications NCS had three NMSQT Commended students in 2021 and one NMSQT semi-finalist in 2022
ASVAB
The ASVAB is a career assessment that helps students know possible career paths they may be suited for.
ACT
ACT is given to every Junior at NCS with about 50% of seniors opting to take it again their 12th grade year The ACT allows us to see how our students compare to the state and national averages, as well as get a picture of how they grew in high school from the Pre-ACT to the ACT. WAYS YOU CANAFFORDACHRISTIAN EDUCATION 2022-2023
PRIVATE SCHOOLTUITION TAX CREDITS (Individual and Switcher Programs)
AnArizona resident for 2022, may donate up to $2,483 (for married taxpayers filing a joint tax return) or $1,243 (for single taxpayers and married couples filing separately) to a private school tuition tax credit organization or STO (up to their Arizona State tax liability) Many STO’s allow donors to recommend a student for STO consideration of an award by listing a student name and anticipated school on the application. Donors can take a dollar-for-dollar tax credit on theirArizona state tax return for that tax year All donations must be received beforeApril 15th in order to receive a tax credit for the previous year. You cannot recommend your own child, and you must re-apply every year by the organization’s stated deadline The guidelines and prerequisites of awards are based on several factors Review the “STOTax CreditsAtA Glance” handout to determine your eligibility. It may be possible for both new NCS families, current NCS families, homeschool families, and those families moving toArizona to qualify for “switcher” funding (also known as PLUS or Overflow) in certain circumstances.Additional verification paperwork may be required to verify eligibility for “switcher” funding Out-of-state donors are welcome to make a donation to an STO, but they will not receive a tax credit Although there are 80+ individualArizona tax credit organizations inArizona, NCS works with a specific group of STO’s and the list changes annually Each STO has their own timeline and application process Families seeking tuition assistance may apply to more than one organization. Several are listed below. For more information, applications, donor & verification forms, and frequently asked question links, go to:

CORPORATE TAX DOLLARS (Low Income Student Program)
Families may apply for corporate tax dollars if your student is entering kindergarten at NCS or is a 1st-12th grade student transferring to NCS from anAZ school (public, charter, orArizona-funded on-line program), or is a child of an active military guardian, or received a prior corporate or individual tax credit scholarship in the prior school year while being continually enrolled at a private school Your income must not exceed 185% of the income limit to qualify a child for reduced lunches under the National School Lunch and SchoolAct (see chart on reverse; right hand column). The majority ofArizona families, approximately 58%, qualify by income for this program
Applying early is advantageous as most applications are due in mid-late spring prior to the school year that begins in August. NCS families who are connected with anArizona C-Corp. or S-Corp. are invited to learn more about making a corporate tax credit donation There are 80+ArizonaTax Credit Organizations that process corporate tuition scholarships and families are encouraged to seek out the various organizations below to learn more about corporate scholarship opportunities Current NCS families that meet the financial “means test”AND receive a corporate scholarship, may become eligible for Switcher/Overflow/PLUS individual tax credits in the following school-year. Current NCS families that have received a prior tuition assistance award in any current year, and have been consistently enrolled in anAZ private school, may qualify for corporate tuition assistance if income meets the income guidelines. EARLYEDUCATION/PRESCHOOL(ages

KINDERGARTEN - Tax credits may be “banked” for an upcoming kindergarten student up to 8-12 months prior to the start of kindergarten, depending on the policies of the STO. There are more scholarship opportunities for incoming kindergarten students than at any other point Receiving a tuition assistance award inANYamount during the kindergarten school year is critical in securing a “switcher” status through 12th grade and in gaining eligibility for low-income corporate scholarships in a future year Scheduling a personal consultation with the NCS admissions department before March of your student’s PreK year is advised.
