ORTHSIDE CHRISTIAN COLLEGE WEEKLY PRIMARY NEWSLETTER
Dear Parents and Carers,
We’ve enjoyed another week of warm weather! I’m especially grateful for air conditioning! We’ve been reminding our students to stay hydrated, limit their time in the sun, and be mindful of the heat.
Our school values are at the heart of everything we do. In our Primary classrooms, we’ve been taking time to explore the meaning of each value and how they look in practice. Our College values are Faith, Hope, Love, Humility, Perseverance, Integrity, Community, Service, and Grace
Throughout the year, we will continue to focus on behaviours that reflect these values. This helps us live them out and foster an environment that is both safe and supportive for everyone. This is part of our Primary Christian Living Curriculum.
For example, when we focus on the value of Love, we teach our students to care for others, help one another, and treat others as they wish to be treated. We celebrate when students embody our values, and when their actions don't reflect them, we use it as a chance to remind them of what we stand for as a College.
I encourage you to discuss these values with your child and help them find ways to live them out in their everyday lives.
Galatians 6:9 reminds us: “Let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up ”
This year we have established a new STEAM Program as one of our Primary Specialist Subjects. STEAM is an acronym for Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics. We will be exposing students to some of these areas throughout the year, focusing more specifically on the "Technologies" curriculum, through a scientific, creative and digital lens. The students have enjoyed participating in these classes so far with Mrs Caitlyn Wood teaching this subject weekly for all of our Primary students. The lessons include hands-on activities and are designed to build upon our Inquiry focuses that occur in each classroom Do not hesitate to reach out to Mrs Wood if you have any questions about Primary STEAM.
Thank you for your continued support of your child’s learning over the past few weeks. It’s been wonderful to see so many students consistently completing their homework. We truly value the partnership with you in your child's education Remember, you can always reach out to your child's teacher via SEQTA Direqt Message if you have any specific questions or concerns about their learning.
May God bless you and your family.
Chris Drowley Director of Primary School Learning

Teachers start supervision duties at 8:15am, therefore it is unsafe for any student to be onsite without a parent actively supervising them before this time
Camp Australia is available to supervise Primary School aged children before school from 7:00am and after school until 6:00pm To register and book visit www.campaustralia.com.au.

PLEASE CARE FOR OUR BOOKS
We kindly ask for your support in ensuring that home readers and library books sent home with students are treated with care.
Last year’s annual stocktake revealed that a number of our texts had been written on, torn, or mishandled Unfortunately, this affects the experience of other families who receive books in poor condition.
Please note that lost readers incur a replacement fee, and books that are significantly damaged will also need to be replaced We greatly appreciate your cooperation in helping us maintain our resources for all students to enjoy.
Thank you for your understanding and support.

The Wellbeing Barometer survey is an invaluable tool for schools, providing critical insights into the mental health and wellbeing of young people. This annual survey identifies areas of concern, highlights resilience and adaptability in students, and emphasises the importance of preventative strategies to promote positive outcomes.
Participation in this survey is strongly encouraged, as it offers a comprehensive view of students' experiences, challenges, and achievements. By capturing a detailed understanding of young people's experiences, the survey supports a tailored approach to enhancing their mental, emotional, and social wellbeing. It helps to identify strengths and areas for improvement, as well as pinpoint opportunities for early intervention.
The survey is part of an ongoing longitudinal study, and we encourage you to take a few moments to complete the survey for each of your children. Responses remain anonymous and should be based on your observations over the last 12 months By working together, we can reduce the long-term impact of mental illness and make a meaningful difference to the lives of our young people for a brighter future.
We hope you take time to reflect on the information offered in this Special Report, and as always, we welcome your feedback.
If you do have any concerns about the wellbeing of your child, please contact the school for further information or seek medical or professional help
