TERM 4 | WEEK 6 | 14TH NOVEMBER 2025

A MESSAGE FROM MR CHRIS DROWLEY

Dear Parents and Carers,

Earlier this week we welcomed our new Preps for the first of their Orientation sessions in preparation for the 2026 school year. This was a lovely time getting to know the students who will be joining our school in 2026. I would like to thank the members of our Parents and Friends Committee who attended this mingling session to welcome the parents of our new Preps. We look forward to welcoming these students again next week for their second Orientation session.

I had the privilege of attending the Watsonia RSL Remembrance Day Service this week along with our Primary Student Leaders. Our student leaders represented Northside Christian College so well and laid a wreath on behalf of our school to commemorate the loss of Australian lives in past wars and conflicts. We also gathered our students here at the College and observed a minute's silence while commemorating this special day. Remembrance is an important thing to do as we reflect on the past and we can be grateful for the things we have now

Our Year 5 students had their City Experience this week Beginning with a bus ride into Federation Square, students formed small groups and set off with a teacher on a race to uncover hidden gems around the City The journey continued at the Old Melbourne Gaol, where students stepped back in time to explore the fascinating history of justice in Victoria, including the stories of Ned Kelly and life behind bars After the guided tour they enjoyed lunch together in the beautiful surrounds of Flagstaff Gardens before returning to Northside It was a memorable day of learning and discovery.

Our Year 6 students are travelling to Canberra next week for their school camp experience They will be travelling by plane and we do pray for their protection while they are away. I have attended previously and I know how great of an experience this will be for our students Thank you to the staff who are accompanying our students and I look forward to hearing about their adventures when they return.

God bless you and have a lovely weekend

Social media age restrictions

What you need to know

From 10 December 2025 Australian young people under 16 will not be allowed to create or hold accounts on certain social media platforms.

Delaying account access allows more time for young people to build digital literacy and greater resilience.

How will it work?

Under the law, the responsibility lies with the age-restricted platforms to find and deactivate existing accounts held by under-16s and to prevent under-16s from creating new accounts.

There are no penalties for under-16s who access an age-restricted social media platform, or for their parents or carers

Social media platforms

The age restrictionsarelikely to apply to Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, TikTok, X and YouTube, as well as other platforms See the latest list.

Most standalone gaming and messaging apps, as well as many services that support health and education, will not be affected by the new law.
