ORTHSIDE CHRISTIAN COLLEGE WEEKLY PRIMARY NEWSLETTER

Dear Parents and Carers,

We are heading into our fifth week of the term and it has been wonderful seeing our students settle into the 2025 school year. One of the highlights for me so far has occurred during our weekly Chapel services. We have been teaching the students about what it means to praise God. Together we have been praising God and it really is a joy and privilege to be able to do this all together.

Our theme for 2025 is Connection Our Principal, Ms Jacqui Munro, presented this theme to the College during our recent dedication service. God wants us to be connected to Him, as well as to one another. Our Chaplain Jared, has been teaching us a new song that he has written which is based on our theme verse for the year found in Mark 12:30-31.

"Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength. The second is this: Love your neighbour as yourself. There is no commandment greater than these."

I would like to bring your attention to a resource that you might find helpful as a parent in this day and age, SchoolTV. This is an online resource that provides information, tools and layers of support for parents and caregivers around a range of topics. I encourage you to have a look! https://ncc.vic.schooltv.me/category-latest-newsletter

SchoolTV is embedded in our school website and can be accessed via the Wellbeing page of the website.

I pray you and your family have a wonderful weekend ahead!

God bless you.

FROM THE LIBRARY

It has been wonderful welcoming students back into the Library this year Each student will attend the Library weekly. We hope to foster your child's love of reading!

We wanted to let you know of a few important reminders:

Students may borrow a book for 2 weeks.

To protect our books we ask that each student in Prep - Year 3 bring in a library bag. Students will only be allowed to borrow if they have their library bag. It is also highly encouraged that students in Years 4 - 6 also bring a library bag for borrowing.

If at any time your child has an overdue book, they will need to return it before they can borrow again.

If a book becomes lost or damaged beyond repair, please notify the Library staff so that a replacement fee can be arranged.

We look forward to seeing your child in the Library and thank you for working with us to take care of our books!

CHANGES TO THE TRAFFIC FLOW

Please be advised that cars wishing to park in the upper car park will need to drive slowly through the centre of the pickup zone and into the parking areas.

This ensures all cars are driving in the one direction and helps with a smoother process for the sign duty staff member

STUDENTS CANNOT BE DROPPED OFF AT SCHOOL BEFORE 8:15AM

As we start the new year, it is important to remember that students cannot be dropped off at school before to 8:15am.

Teachers start supervision duties at 8:15am, therefore it is unsafe for any student to be onsite without a parent actively supervising them before this time.

Camp Australia is available to supervise Primary School aged children before school from 7:00am and after school until 6:00pm. To register and book visit www.campaustralia.com.au.

YOUNG PEOPLE CHAMPIONING

PODCAST IN A DIGITAL WORLD

PARENT

EVENING

At Northside Christian College, we recognise the challenges young people face, from hyper-sexualised content to the influence of online culture. We believe they can live with courage, empathy, respect, and kindness—but they need guidance to navigate the messages they encounter around consent, relationships, stereotypes, and sexuality.

We are excited to welcome back Daniel Principe, a Christian youth advocate and educator, recently nominated for the 2025 Australian of the Year. Drawing from the latest research, Daniel equips families with practical insights and strategies to help young people critically assess and challenge cultural pressures.

In this session, Daniel will stereotypes, and the impact of porn culture.

With an evidence-based and faith-informed approach, he will offer tools to help parents and carers equip young people to build respectful, empathetic relationships that last into adulthood.

This promises to be an insightful and empowering evening—we would love for you to join us.

Tickets are FREE but essential —Book HERE.

TUESDAY4THMARCH 6:15pm-8:30pm

The Wellbeing Barometer survey is an invaluable tool for schools, providing critical insights into the mental health and wellbeing of young people. This annual survey identifies areas of concern, highlights resilience and adaptability in students, and emphasises the importance of preventative strategies to promote positive outcomes.

Participation in this survey is strongly encouraged, as it offers a comprehensive view of students' experiences, challenges, and achievements. By capturing a detailed understanding of young people's experiences, the survey supports a tailored approach to enhancing their mental, emotional, and social wellbeing. It helps to identify strengths and areas for improvement, as well as pinpoint opportunities for early intervention.

The survey is part of an ongoing longitudinal study, and we encourage you to take a few moments to complete the survey for each of your children. Responses remain anonymous and should be based on your observations over the last 12 months By working together, we can reduce the long-term impact of mental illness and make a meaningful difference to the lives of our young people for a brighter future.

We hope you take time to reflect on the information offered in this Special Report, and as always, we welcome your feedback.

If you do have any concerns about the wellbeing of your child, please contact the school for further information or seek medical or professional help

PLEASE CARE FOR OUR BOOKS

We kindly ask for your support in ensuring that home readers and library books sent home with students are treated with care.

Last year’s annual stocktake revealed that a number of our texts had been written on, torn, or mishandled. Unfortunately, this affects the experience of other families who receive books in poor condition.

Please note that lost readers incur a replacement fee, and books that are significantly damaged will also need to be replaced. We greatly appreciate your cooperation in helping us maintain our resources for all students to enjoy.

Thank you for your understanding and support.
