We are thrilled to announce the launch of Northside Christian College’s Strategic Plan (2023 –2033), designed to support our Christian school community to flourish as we aim to transform lives through Christ and the wonder of learning. This comprehensive roadmap highlights our commitment to fostering a nurturing environment where students can grow academically, spiritually, and personally. Guided by our unwavering faith and a passion for rigorous learning, we are excited to embark together on a journey of flourishing.
This Strategic Plan is intended to set the overall direction for Northside Christian College for the next ten years so we can flourish together as a College community. It also outlines the key values that the Committee of Management and the College community agree should be at the heart of how the College operates and develops. Our Strategic Priorities are carefully aligned with the College’s Vision and Mission statements, Values, Objectives, and Philosophy statement.
Northside Christian College remains steadfast in our commitment to providing Christian education for our College community. The Strategic Plan highlights the importance of Christ being at the centre of all of that we do.
We are encouraged in Colossians 2:2-3 (NIV): “My goal is that they may be encouraged in heart and united in love, so that they may have the full riches of complete understanding, in order that they may know the mystery of God, namely, Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.”
The College’s Strategic Plan is available online at https://www.ncc. vic.edu.au/strategic-plan.

The Preps celebrated 100 Days of School on Thursday, 3rd August.
The teachers were blown away to see the tremendous effort that parents went to so that their adorable Preppies turned into 100-year-old versions of themselves. There were also some great 100-themed costumes and snacks. The Prep classes were so happy to have parents join in the fun at the end of the day.
We look forward to enjoying the next 100 days of school with the Preps!
Ms Olivia Natoli Primary TeacherOn the last week of Term 2, the Preps had an amazing opportunity to get up close to waterbugs living in Darebin Creek. Samples of creek water were brought into our classroom and students investigated waterbugs (freshwater macroinvertebrates) that could be found in it. They used spoons to catch waterbugs from creek water into trays and identified bugs using supplied charts and magnifying glasses. What an experience observing some creepy crawlies that can be found in the creek!
Mrs Amelin Cheah Primary TeacherOn Wednesday 19th July, the Year 5’s and 6’s were given the opportunity to participate in a Tree Planting Excursion along the Darebin Creek, just north of McLeans Road. This was run by the Darebin Creek Management Committee (DCMC) and the fabulous Peter and Danny were facilitators for the day. The DCMC provided over 100 seedlings for each year level to plant. Seedlings were selected based on creating a good, messy habitat to help the local wildlife such as small birds hide from their predators.
Ms Christie Vaughn Primary TeacherIt was a memorable experience where the Year 5’s and 6’s participated in replenishing the area by planting wildlife-friendly seedlings. Students planted a range of plants including Manna Gums and Blackwood. Overall, it was a handson experience which allowed for learning about the significance of providing shelter for our smaller birdlife and discerning different plants. All students enjoyed the activity and were proud to be able to demonstrate the College value of Service for the local community.
Aylaa - Year 6
During the Term 2 School Holidays, Isabel from 2C participated in the Fencing Koala Mini Challenge and Friendship Cup, held in Sydney and organised by the NSW Fencing Association. Isabel won a bronze medal (3rd place) in the Under 8 Girls Foil, where fencers are invited from all over Oceania and Asia. Well done, Isabel!
Ms Kristina Collin Primary TeacherIn the spirited Year 6 class at Northside Christian College, a creative exploration was unfolding. The curriculum introduced the versatile medium of air-dry clay, offering the students an engaging hands-on experience. With enthusiasm, they dove into the task of character modelling, transforming the pliable clay into lively figures. This tactile journey intertwined with lessons on the historical and cultural relevance of ceramics, enhancing their practical experience with rich theoretical insights. The culmination of their efforts resulted in uniquely crafted characters, tangible manifestations of their learned skills.
Mr Daniel Hennequin Primary TeacherTwo of our Year 9 students tied in our Mariokart Race Reading Challenge. They completed all 15 books in the same update and crossed our Mariokart finish line. They are happy to share the trophy for the challenge. Now they are trying to lap other players!
On the 13th July, the educators, Mr Chris Gatt and Mr Daniel Hennequin, led a group of students from Years 10, 11, and 12 to the ‘Big Day In Melbourne,’ an IT Careers Seminar Excursion held at The Capitol Theatre in RMIT University. This annual event serves to highlight various skills and potential career paths within Information Technology and other STEM fields. It was an inspiring day, abundant with fresh, innovative ideas that could be implemented in our classrooms. Moreover, it presented the students with wonderful opportunities to interact with diverse companies, enabling them to consider their future careers in IT, STEM, and Creative Media.
Mr Daniel Hennequin Secondary TeacherIn week 3, Year 11 and 12 Chemistry students had the chance to engage in experiments organized by the Victorian Space Science Education Centre (VSSEC) at Pascoe Vale. This full-day program ran from 9:00 am to 3:30 pm. The students had the opportunity to use various spectroscopic instruments and were guided by instructors throughout the day. They also had the opportunity to create and test standard solutions and samples and then interpret data.
Mrs Susan Varghese Secondary TeacherOn the 11th July, the Year 12 Chemistry Class went on an excursion to the Victorian Space Science Education Centre. At this centre, we were able to practically conduct experiments based on Organic Chemistry which we are currently learning. Some of these experiments involved looking at the contents of an aspirin tablet to identify the true percentage of aspirin present, as well as learning about different carbon functional groups. We had the opportunity to use the Infrared Spectrometer, the UV-Visible Spectrometer, and the High-Performance Liquid Chromatograph. Overall it was a great experience with very supportive instructors that guided us throughout the day. Thanks to Mrs Varghese for putting this excursion together and Mr Stocks for driving the bus!
Joshua, Year 12
On the 25th July, the Year 11 Chemistry Class travelled to the VSSEC to broaden their chemistry knowledge. We had the amazing opportunity to use an Atomic Absorption Spectrometer and the UV-Visible Spectrometer to understand the amount of various metal ions in a serum. Through interacting with many scientists in various fields of science, we had the opportunity to explore different career pathways while being scientists and striving to understand Space Anaemia. Thanks to Mrs Varghese for putting this excursion together and Ms Chelsea for supporting us.
Michelle, Year 11
We are thrilled to announce the outstanding achievements of our students who participated in the Computational and Algorithmic Thinking (CAT) and the Oxford University Computing Challenge (OUCC) Competition earlier this year. Their hard work and dedication have not gone unnoticed. We extend our congratulations to all participants for their commendable efforts.
Mrs Anthea Field INSPiRE CoordinatorA special mention goes out to Lyvia in Year 9 for her exceptional performance in the CAT and Victor in Year 7 for his exceptional performance in the OUCC, both earning a Distinction. Their success is a testament to their analytical skills, problem-solving abilities, and perseverance. We are incredibly proud of all our students, and their achievements continue to inspire us in our pursuit of academic excellence. Well done, everyone!
We are delighted to share the incredible achievements of nine Year 10 students from our school who recently participated in Lalor’s Local Parliamentary Convention. The convention’s focus was on the upcoming ‘Voice’ referendum, with students engaging in a thoughtful discussion on the topic: “Is recognition of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in the Constitution and the creation of a Voice to Parliament more likely to lead to reconciliation?”
The students had the unique opportunity to hear perspectives from both sides of the debate, allowing them to gain a comprehensive understanding of the issue. Afterwards, students collaborated with peers from other schools to discuss their viewpoints, promoting a spirit of cooperation and dialogue. Furthermore, they actively participated in a mock debate, where they lined up, were asked questions they would encounter at a polling location, received a voting slip, and then completed their votes in the polling booths. This handson experience enhanced their understanding of the democratic process and the importance of exercising their right to vote.
Special commendation goes to two of our students who have been privately commended for their courage in representing their tables and eloquently expressing their views in front of all the attendees. We are proud of our students for their active engagement in such important discussions that contribute to a more inclusive and respectful society.
Recently, a select group of students from Year 7 to Year 9 had the privilege of attending the Thriving Minds Junior Stretch and Challenge program. Led by gifted educators, Julie Arliss and Dr. Andrew Pinsent from the University of Oxford, this unique opportunity aimed to enhance our students’ capacity to manipulate ideas and make connections across school subjects.
Throughout the interactive sessions, students engaged in captivating discussions on various thoughtprovoking topics:
1. An Introduction to the Science of Nanotechnology: Students delved into the fascinating world of nanotechnology, learning about its applications and potential impact on our lives.
2. Community of Inquiry: How Do We Know What Is Fair?: This session encouraged students to think critically about the concept of fairness and how we determine what is just and equitable.
3. What Should I Do?: Exploring ethical dilemmas, students engaged in discussions that challenged their decision-making skills and moral perspectives.
4. Debate: This House Believes It Is Always Right to Tell the Truth: In this lively debate, students argued the merits and complexities of truth-telling in different situations.
The Thriving Minds Junior Stretch and Challenge program provided a nurturing environment for our talented students to share ideas, collaborate with like-minded peers, and pursue high-level challenges.
We commend their dedication and eagerness to learn, and we look forward to witnessing their continued growth and success!

Mr Matthew Zammit Sport TeacherOn Friday 23rd June it was the first time in Northside history that the College has been successful in a Division 1 final!
After a very successful season in Term 1 Year 5/6 District Sports, Northside was promoted to Division 1.
Through Term 2, the Northside Girls Tee-ball Team were undefeated and qualified for the Bundoora District final.
It was an exhilarating game against Mill Park Heights, where our team continuously strived to perform their best. The scores were 11-7; the win on our side.
On behalf of the Tee-ball girls (Abbey N, Tobiloba, Mishelle, Tomisin, Lauren, Charlize, Eriana, Jessica and Abby W), I extend a thank you to Mrs Venegas for your dedication and coaching throughout our Tee-ball season and to Mr Longley for your support.
It has been a memorable and extremely fun experience and we are anticipating our future match representing the Bundoora District in the Whittlesea Division rally day.
Well done, Tee-ball girls!
Aylaa, Year 6
On 29th July it was the first time in 40 years that Northside placed on the podium in the Whittlesea Division. In anticipation to elevate our newer members and play our best in Division, our Tee-ball Girls attended many training sessions after school and through lunchtimes with experienced softball coach and founding member of the Coburg Redbacks, Mel Triulcio, and Mr. Longley.
Our animated and excited girls played an exceptional game, demonstrating sportsmanship against the Whittlesea Primary School team - winning with a commanding 14-0.
After a lunch break and an opportunity to rejuvenate (and scope out the next opposition), we played our final match.
In the first few innings, the scores weren’t in our favour. Our team began to lose hope and the prospect of a loss enlarged. With a drive to finish strong and enlivened spirits, our girls came home strong and played our best innings, scoring 6 - 2. Despite a valiant effort, our girls came 2nd to Marymede Catholic College.
On behalf of the Tee-ball girls, thank you, Mel, Mr. Longley, and Mrs. Venegas for your vast dedication and guidance throughout our Tee-Ball journey. We know you are extremely proud of our efforts. Congratulations Tee-Ball girls (Elvy, Abby. W, Tobiloba, Tomison, Ariel, Rina, Kyra, Lauren, Jessica, and Abbey. N) for placing 2nd out of 51 teams of primary schools in the City of Whittlesea and demonstrating sportsmanship and flexibility with our adjudicators. Thank you, Michelle for attending our games and Mrs Faltas for supporting us. And of course to all the Tee-Ball girls unable to attend our final, Charlize and Eriana for helping us to get this far.
Best wishes Marymede, we know you will represent the Whittlesea District well in regionals and we’ll be cheering you on from the sidelines. Aylaa, Year 6

“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.” Matthew 5:9
Conflict is an inevitable part of human life, but as followers of Christ, we are called to approach it with grace, humility, and a focus on reconciliation. One powerful tool that allows us to put God first in planning our response to conflict is PeaceWise—a Biblical restorative justice framework that seeks to transform hearts and foster healing through God’s principles.
At the heart of PeaceWise lies the concept of shalom, a rich Biblical term encompassing peace, wholeness, and harmony. By understanding the depth of God’s shalom, we can discern how to navigate conflicts with love and empathy. In Matthew 5:9, Jesus declares, “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.” This highlights the importance of seeking peace, reconciliation, and restoration in every aspect of our lives, especially when conflict arises.
PeaceWise emphasises the significance of listening, empathy, and understanding the needs and emotions of those involved in the conflict. By fostering open communication and active listening, we mirror God’s desire for unity among His people. This approach enables us to break down barriers and build bridges between individuals, promoting healing and understanding.
Incorporating PeaceWise into our lives requires an intentional commitment to God’s Word and a willingness to seek His guidance in every conflict. We must acknowledge that our human nature may lead us to respond in anger or seek revenge. However, by leaning on God’s wisdom, we can channel our emotions towards constructive dialogue and restoration.
