Year 8 Geography Field Trip to Point Lonsdale
On Tuesday 16th May, Year 8G and 8R Geography students went to the coastal town and beach-front and light-house area at Point Lonsdale on the Bellarine Peninsula. They enjoyed socialising on the almost two hour trip to get there.

The purpose of the trip was to undertake field work to complement the theory learned in Geography classes regarding coastal landscapes and landforms. Students were able to observe in a real-world setting the geographical processes studied in class. They recorded evidence of the processes of weathering and erosion on coastal landforms and human impact on the area.
Ms Wang (Year 8 Chinese teacher) accompanied the group, enabling the students to integrate their learning and skills in Chinese language with their knowledge and skills in coastal geography. The observations and data gathered and recorded provided students with the information they needed to complete the writing up of a formal geographical field report back in class, which was the key assessment task for this unit of work.
The weather was kind on the day, and the tide at the beach and headlands area was obligingly low, revealing the rockpools and inter-tidal marine life. Students were also able to look across the headlands of Port Phillip Bay from their position at Point Lonsdale and see in the distance Point Nepean National Park, Portsea and Sorrento on the Mornington Peninsula.
Thank you to all staff involved in the preparation and running of this field trip.
