Earlier this term, we had our College’s first interstate band trip to Mount Gambier for Generations in Jazz Festival, which provided some of our students with inspiration and valuable experience in performing, generating enthusiasm and energy to continue pursuing their passions Now, our focus shifts to end-of-semester reports, assessment tasks, and, for our Year 9 students, their first set of exams Please keep our Year 9 students in your prayers as they prepare for this important milestone.

We recognise that this can be a stressful time for some students as they balance expectations and workload. We encourage you to have conversations at home and support your children in sharing any concerns they may have as they navigate this period.

Looking ahead, we are excited for Book Week and the Festival of Arts event in Term 3

Thank you for your ongoing support

Uniform Reminders

A letter was recently sent to all Secondary School families via SEQTA, outlining a renewed focus on consistent and correct uniform wear across Years 7 – 12 in the coming weeks

As part of this, we will be focusing on a few key aspects of the Uniform Policy, including:

Winter skirt length for female students (knee-length)

Hair tied back for female students in Years 7 – 9.

Jewellery kept to one small pair of earrings and a watch

Correct socks and shirts for boys (grey crew socks; shirts tucked in).

College tie worn by all students

Appropriate jackets and shoes (no sports jackets with the regular uniform; black leather lace-up shoes only).

Sports uniform worn only on designated sports days.

No visible non-uniform tops worn under the uniform

The Middle School competition between our Years 7 - 9 home groups for the best-dressed (i.e., the most students in correct uniform) is close, with 8MZ and 7TW in the lead, followed by 7PW, 9SS, then 8SL, and finally 9SW. With a few more weeks left in the term, any one of our Home Groups could snatch the lead and the ultimate prize.

1. Start Early, Study Often

Getting Ready for Your First Exams: Study Tips for Year 9 Students

For many Year 9 students, the upcoming Maths and English exams mark their very first formal assessment experience. While that can feel a little daunting, the good news is that preparing well can help ease nerves and build confidence

Here are some simple, effective study tips to help students feel ready and supported:

Cramming the night before doesn’t work! Aim to begin revising at least a week before the exam Break study sessions into small, manageable chunks over several days rather than doing it all at once.

2. Make a Study Schedule

Plan out what you'll study and when Include breaks, free time, and time for other commitments A clear plan can reduce stress and keep you on track

3. Use Active Study Techniques

Don't just reread your notes engage with them! Try these:

Summarise key ideas in your own words

Make flashcards for key terms or quotes

Teach a concept to someone else (if you can explain it, you understand it!)

Practice writing exam-style responses (especially for English)

4. Ask for Help When You Need It

If something doesn’t make sense, speak to your teacher, a classmate, or someone at home Don’t sit in silence, feeling stuck.

5. Take Care of Yourself

Rest, healthy food, and sleep are part of good study habits. Your brain works better when your body is looked after!

6. Stay Positive

It's normal to feel nervous, but remember: this is a learning experience, not a final judgment Trying your best is what matters.

These first exams are a chance to practise new skills studying, time management, and exam techniques that will help you throughout Secondary School You've got this!
