Its main feature is a 5-story observation tower providing panoramic views of Lake Superior, Duluth, and the surrounding area. Walk through a Japanese garden featuring the American-Japanese Peace Bell (that you can ring). Traverse trails on the hillside facing Lake Superior and the Twin Ports. This is a great stop along the Skyline Parkway Scenic Byway. Open MayOctober.

CP Canal park is the place to be! Explore the restaurants, shops, and attractions up and down Canal Park Drive and Lake Avenue. Relax on the lawn near the famous ship canal and Aerial Lift Bridge. Watch ships and boats, walk out to the lighthouse, and much more.

Admire over 3,000 rose bushes and other plants, a statue of Leif Erikson, a stone memorial fountain, and a gazebo that has provided the location for many weddings. Picnic tables, hiking, paved trail, access to Lakewalk, and seasonal restrooms. 1300 London Rd.

CEH From Leif Erikson Park, take the Superior Hiking Trail to a lovely hiking loop around Chester Creek. Take the Superior Hiking Trail up 14th Ave E (look for blue blazes on the telephone poles). Cross 4th St. to enter the Chester Creek Trail. There is a hiking loop around the creek offering views of small waterfalls. You may also park on 4th St. near 14th Ave E to access the Chester Creek Trail.

McQuade Harbor Rest Area; a spanky little safe harbor with a boat launch, kayak ramp, restrooms, interpretive panels and shelter. ADA accessible parking and paved lakeside path. Take the tunnel to the east breakwall which has three fishing platforms.

Take a break at the new French River wayside area. Artful interpretive panels tell the story of commercial fishing on Lake Superior. Sit on the unique covered deck and enjoy the view.

15.0 Stoney Point Drive is a one-mile scenic road with some of the most beautiful views of Lake Superior. Explore the lakeshore ledgerock or watch stormy waves. This is a popular spot for those daring Lake Superior surfers!

16.0 Buchanan Wayside offers a small pullover parking area, scenic lookout, and historical marker commemorating the first ghost town on the North Shore circa 1859. The former townsite was named after President James Buchanan and only existed for about 2 years.
