West Duluth

WD The Skyline Parkway Scenic Byway skirts the hillsides of Duluth for views of the St. Louis River, Lake Superior, shipping ports, Downtown Duluth, the Aerial Lift Bridge, and beautiful forests. There are many places to access the 28-mile route. Start at the terminus southwest of Duluth by exiting I-35 at Midway Rd/exit 245, or from the Thompson Hill Visitor Center, just up the road.

WD Explore the 3.3 mile Waabizheshikana Trail (formerly called the Western Waterfront Trail). Enjoy a peaceful hike (or bike) along the St. Louis River Estuary amidst birds and wetlands. Park at the trailhead on Pulaski Street.

WD The northern terminus of the Willard Munger State Trail is adjacent to the Waabizheshikana Trail. Hike or bike a loop using both trails!

This all-volunteer train excursion travels along the scenic St. Louis River Estuary. Ride in the vintage 100-yearold coaches or the outdoor Safari Car during the 1-hour, 50-minute ride. Weekend rides only, 10:30am or 1:30pm, June-Oct. 6930 Fremont Street, Duluth, MN.

WD Take Grand Avenue into Spirit Valley for a city’s worth of restaurants, shopping, and other attractions.

WD Quarry Park is a short drive up 59th Ave. West. Play disc golf and hike a trail that traverses the cliff-top rim of the old quarry for great views. There is an ADA accessible loop at the base of the quarry. In the winter, the cliff face is a destination for climbing.

WD Take a doggie break at Keen Creek Dog Park. From Grand Ave (just south of I-35), take N 63rd Ave W, and turn right on Nicollet St. Round the corner to the right to get to the parking lot.
