To the Editor:
On May 18th of last year, I had the misfortune of tripping over a parking curb and severely injuring myself, this happened at the bottle drop in Hermiston. My injuries consisted of contusions to my forehead, a deep cut to my right hand, both requiring several stitches and bruises to my chest and hip.
After falling I was knocked unconscious for several minutes and when I woke up I was in a state of confusion for quite a while, even so I elected to drive myself home against the advice of the bottle drop staff and several customers, again, I was not fully responsive. I got as far as the Irrigon Clinic and decided I had better stop in to see a doctor as the blood was getting in my eyes, and I was still not myself. At the clinic the person at the front desk asked me what I wanted, I told her what had happened and that I needed help. She said she would get a doctor upon seeing my injuries. When she returned, she advised me that the doctor said they could not help me, and they would either call an ambulance for me or I could go to an Urgent Care facility somewhere. I told her I thought this place was for medical treatment. She said she was only telling me what the doctor had told her. Needless to say, I was very upset and left. When I got home, I live not far from the clinic my wife drove me to the Family Health clinic in Hermiston where my injuries were taken care of.
My reason for writing this now is due to the Morrow County Health Districts flyers and ads in the local paper as to how they are responsive to the people’s needs and how caring their personnel are to the residents of Morrow County. I will say that I received a call from the Irrigon Clinic the next day and the gentleman advised me that the treatment I received was uncalled for and that it would never happen again. Also, both myself and my wife have had need for the districts Irrigon ambulance on several occasions and found them to be very caring and professional in every instance.
Both my wife and I have lived in Boardman for 35 years and outside Irrigon for ten years, and in the past have used the medical units in both towns. It is only recently that this divide has surfaced and caused nothing but hard feelings on both sides. Perhaps we should look at management for the cause of this friction
Sincerely, Roy Drago
