A note from the director’s desk

Great things are happening in the North Kansas City park system. The new North Kansas City Parks and Recreation Center is actively under construction next to Wheel Park. We are hoping for completion after the first of 2018. In the next publication, I will share with you the exact date for the grand opening and when we will be open to the public. The Parks and Recreation Center is a great addition to the Parks and Recreation Department as we will be able to offer exceptional customer service in a facility that is designed for Parks and Recreation programs, events and rental opportunities. There have been amazing volunteer groups this summer working in the parks. A local business, Future Foam, offers community service hours once a quarter to our parks. In July, the group installed flagstone around the restroom facility on Howell and stained and cleaned up the horse shoe pit. Members from North Kansas City graduating class of 2007 cleaned up Waggin′ Trail Dog Park by installing flagstone around areas that held standing water, picking up trash and pulling all the weeds along the fence and trees. The Parks and Recreation Board and staff greatly appreciate companies and groups wanting to keep our parks clean.
