Happy 2016! North Kansas City Parks and Recreation has so much to offer the community this coming year. Dagg Park will open late spring and will feature a new Ocean Theme spray ground and Berliner play system to enjoy. There will be a designated play area for toddlers, shelter rental for birthday parties, and so much more. We can’t wait for you to join us and splash around! Please join us on Saturday, March 19th from 10:00am – 12:00pm, for our Eggstravaganza at Macken Park where you can hunt for treasurefilled eggs and get your picture taken with the Easter Bunny. We don’t want to exclude our furry friends. Later that day on March 19th from 1:00pm – 2:00pm, we will have our second annual Bone-Anza at Waggin’ Trail Park. You and your furry friend can get your picture taken with the Easter Bunny and hunt for treat-filled eggs.

Fee: $5 We invite you to join us for fun themed planned preschool activities. You bring the kids and we will plan games, crafts, sing-alongs, and a treat. All you need to do is pre-register one week prior to playtime. Adults are required to stay and participate with their children.

The Bald Eagle is the most iconic creature ever and we love seeing them soar. Have you ever wanted to learn to draw one? Cooking Matters is a six session course that combines hands-on cooking experience with nutrition education. Students will learn and practice basic cooking skills, and safety in the kitchen. SPORTS leagues North Kansas City Parks & Recreation youth sports programs are non-competitive leagues. The programs emphasize skill development; learning the rules of the game, playing as a team, sportsmanship, and most importantly to have FUN! All practices and games are held at Macken Park. Children may register “with one buddy” for youth team sports. BOTH registration forms must be received along with the registration fee for each child at the same time. If you are new to the NKC sports program, you will be placed on a team by the NKC Parks & Recreation staff.

This program is a five-week introductory session to the sport of soccer. Participants will begin to understand the fundamental motor skills of soccer through games and activities. T-ball is the first step in the baseball/ softball progression. Emphasis is placed on having fun and playing together as a team. Our goal is for the child to learn the correct skills for batting, throwing and catching, as well as developing an understanding of the basics of the game. Registration: February 29 – April 1 (or until teams are filled) Fee: $65 (includes jersey, hat & trophy)
Coach-Pitch will take over where T-ball left off. The child will learn to hit a ball pitched to them by their coach. The child will further develop fielding skills and learn to play as a team. Registration: February 29 – April 1 (or until teams are filled) Fee: $75 (includes jersey, hat & trophy)
Kid pitch baseball is the next step in getting ready for playing competitive baseball. Players will learn the fundamentals of pitching and catching as well as further basic fundamental baseball skills. The rules and diamond are modified to fit age group. There is a strong emphasis on baseball instruction in a recreation team setting. There will be no player draft, all players will play. Robert Wages Sports Coordinator
Robert grew up near Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. After graduating from Waynesville High School, Robert earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Recreation, Sport, & Park Administration from Missouri State University. He has worked with multiple parks and recreation agencies and many other recreational positions such as youth camps and The Color Run. He will be coordinating all adult and youth sports programs.

PARKS WAGGIN′ TRAIL OFF-LEASH DOG PARK 432 EAST 32ND AVENUE
A partnership between the City of North Kansas City, Missouri and City of Kansas City, Missouri
Waggin’ Trail Off-Leash Dog Park is 4.70 acres, with designated areas for small dogs (less than 30 lbs.) and large dogs (more than 30 lbs.).
Park Rules 1. All Park patrons must comply with the park rules as stated. Persons failing to comply with the rules may be subject to a formal complaint filed with the North Kansas City Police Department. Persons asked to leave the park premises who do not comply may be subject to prosecution for trespassing. 2. Off-leash dog areas are for dogs and their handlers. No animals other than dogs shall be permitted in the areas. No other use is permitted, including skateboard, bicycles, scooters, strollers and rollerblades. 3. Handlers must “scoop the poop” and dispose of waste in designated Park provided container. (Ordinance 6.12.120) 4. To create a positive experience for you and your dog, make sure your dog knows how to appropriately socialize with other dogs before using the Park. 5. Dog owners assume all risk related to the use of the Dog Park. The Cities of North Kansas City or Kansas City shall not be liable for any injury or damage caused by dogs or handlers. Handlers are responsible for any injuries caused by dog(s) under their control. 6. Dogs that exhibit aggressive behavior are not allowed in the park. Dogs must be removed immediately from park at the first sign of aggression. (Ordinance 6.12.090) 7. Dogs in the Small Dog area are to be less than 30 pounds. No dogs under the age of 4 months are allowed. All dogs exceeding 30 pounds are required to use the Large Dog area. 8. Female dogs in heat and dogs with fresh wounds are not allowed in the Dog Park. (Ordinance 6.12.100) 9. All dogs must be current on their vaccinations along with displaying current tag on a collar or harness. (Ordinance 6.12.020) 10. SPIKED COLLARS ARE NOT ALLOWED. 11. All animal to human bites must be reported to the City of North Kansas City Animal Control Department immediately. (Ordinance 6.16.020) 12. Dogs must be on leash, a maximum length of 6 feet, when entering and exiting the off-leash dog areas. Handlers must have possession of the dog leash at all times. No dogs are allowed within the off-leash area while restrained by a leash. 13. Children 5 and under are not allowed in the off-leash dog areas. Children 6 – 15 must be accompanied by an adult and handlers must be a minimum of 16 years of age. 14. Dogs must be under voice control of their handler and in view of their handler at all times. Only 2 dogs are allowed per handler. 15. Handlers must repair all holes and damage done by their dog under their supervision. 16. Park Hours of Operation are 6AM to Sunset or 9PM whichever comes first.

PARKS MEMORIAL PARK
Located at 716 East 23rd Avenue adjacent to the North Kansas City High School. The park is defined by a street meridian and contains several features commemorating the history of wars fought involving American citizens. A replica of the Statue of Liberty is located in Memorial Park.
MACKEN PARK
Located at the corners of Clark Ferguson Drive and Howell Street is home to many varied park activities. This 60-acre park is utilized for sports leagues, walking, picnicking and several forms of recreation.
GEOCACHING
Geocaching is a worldwide, treasure hunting adventure! North Kansas City Parks and Recreation has joined the movement and hidden a cache somewhere in our park systems. We would like for the city to join the fun by participating and hiding/finding their own caches. For more information on how geocaching works, go to www.geocaching.com and start your own account. It is completely free and a great hobby for all ages.

ANY PARTIES INTERESTED IN HOSTING A SPECIAL EVENT AT MACKEN PARK MUST SUBMIT A SPECIAL EVENT USAGE PERMIT A MINIMUM OF 45 DAYS PRIOR TO THE DATE OF EVENT.
