Guy Nader | Maria Campos Time Takes The Time Time Takes Inspired by the swinging motion of a pendulum, dancers are suspended in time in this hypnotic and highly physical work by acclaimed artists Guy Nader and Maria Campos.

Five performers glide through a series of lifts, spins and oscillating movements, as synchronised as the gears in a clock. Accompanied by the repetitive, trance-like beat of a live percussionist, Time Takes... is at once suspenseful, acrobatic and striking.

Northern Connections

This year’s selected artists Lizzie Klotz, Madeline Shann and Akshay Sharma share the results of their choreographic residencies at Northern School of Contemporary Dance in an inspiring triple bill of new work.

Northern Connections profiles and platforms work by some of the North’s most promising emerging dance artists.

Candoco created a sensation last year when it became the first contemporary dance company to perform on Strictly Come Dancing.

Renowned for creating acclaimed and cuttingedge work, the company brings a double bill of dramatic and powerful choreography by Yasmeen Godder and Hetain Patel.

Candoco Dance Company Double Bill

Tom Dale Company Step Sonic A new, live form of dance music.

Part 1: Step Sonic Raw physicality, breath, voice, bodies impacting and the sound of feet and limbs on the floor.

Sampled live by composer Jo Wills, the dancers create the score in this explosive new dance work.

Part 2: New solos by Tom Dale, Eleesha Drennan and Jamaal Burkmar celebrating music, sound and rhythm.

Miranda Tufnell Pneûma Bringing together light, sound, movement, film and visual imagery, Pneûma is a captivating exploration of the poetics of breath.

Collaborating with musicians and visual artists and drawing on her experience working for the NHS as a body therapist, Tufnell creates a beautiful and immersive experience.

Miranda Tufnell is an independent dance artist, writer and teacher in movement and imagination. She also practises as an Alexander teacher and Craniosacral therapist.

Luca Silvestrini’s Protein The Little Prince Based on the world-famous story by Antoine de SaintExupéry, The Little Prince is brought to life using Protein’s award-winning mix of dance, humour and spoken word.

The Little Prince leaves behind his tiny asteroid and lands on planet Earth, coming face to face with the baffling world of grown-ups! Together with a mysterious snake, a wise fox and a lone pilot, he discovers the beauty of friendship and the complexity of love.

All That Jazz PART OF SCALARAMA FESTIVAL The award-winning 1979 film All That Jazz is a semi-autobiographical drama/ fantasy classic. Directed by Bob Fosse, and starring Roy Scheider and Jessica Lange, it depicts the road to death through a showbiz lens. © 20th Century Fox / Columbia Pictures

RJS Ballet is led by NSCD alumna Ruth Summerskill.

A spectacular evening of dance performance by local Dance Fever students across all genres, celebrating the students’ hard work and talent.

Students on the BA (Hons) degree at Northern School of Contemporary Dance perform three distinct works made for them by international choreographers Barnaby Booth (UK), Anton Lachky (Slovakia) and Yukiko Masui (Japan). Full of technical physicality and raw power, each collaboration brings a unique perspective to this cutting edge programme.

RJC Dance Christmas Show 2019 Award-winning RJC Dance engages young people from all backgrounds, representing our diverse society. This inspiring performance showcases the talents and skills of RJC Dance Youth Provision members aged 9-18, and highlights their creativity in the performing arts.
