I am thrilled to be introducing this imaginative programme of award-winning artists and companies.

The works this season are bold, innovative and ambitious, and reflect today’s multicultural society in all its rich and varied diversity.

We’re delighted to welcome back Scottish Dance Theatre and Candoco Dance Company to our theatre, as well as companies for the very first time including Far From the Norm and Alesandra Seutin’s Vocab Dance.

Rounding off the season, our talented undergraduate students perform three fresh new commissions in NEW GROUND, and local community group RJC Dance Youth Provision take to the stage, maintaining our commitment to inspire and support the next generation of performers and choreographers.

Our sector has been hit hard by the consequences of the global pandemic, and regrettably not everyone has survived. As we recover, we hope our programming will continue to inspire and entertain you, as we collectively build a stronger and more sustainable future for dance and dance makers.

Far From The Norm | Botis Seva BLKDOG Vital and gripping, BLKDOG is Botis Seva’s haunting commentary on surviving adulthood. Blending hip hop dance and free-form antics, the work explores the inner battlefield of an artist trying to retain his youth. With music from long-standing collaborator Torben Lars Sylvest, and performed by Seva’s powerhouse company Far From The Norm, BLKDOG searches for coping mechanisms in the ultimate hunt for acceptance.

Vocab Dance | Alesandra Seutin Boy Breaking Glass Q: How do you survive in a system that is not always embracing you? How can we keep smiling in the midst of darkness?

A: Re-imagine a society that supports fairness and equality, and allow individuals to really break through the proverbial glass ceiling.

Boy Breaking Glass is inspired by the poem of the same name written by Gwendolyn Brooks - the first Black female poet in the United States to receive the Pulitzer Prize for Poetry. Featuring Alesandra Seutin’s signature Afro-European style, expect powerful, inspiring and thought-provoking dance theatre.

on Feel About Your Body

New Art Club Cupid’s Revenge In today’s disposable world where love is used to sell us everything from plug-in cars to yoghurt… where did real love go?

The latest dance-theatre comedy show from New Art Club is a joyful, physical and verbal outburst against the forces that masquerade as love. With dexterous physicality this impossibly big topic is broken open and brought vividly to life.

Jose Agudo draws upon his unique palette of Flamenco and contemporary dance to craft this dramatic adaptation of Prosper Mérimée’s classic novella.

Unravelling the complex interplay between conformity and freedom, and the results of obsessive human behaviour, Carmen is a performance about individuality, independence, love and pleasure.

Candoco Dance Company Double Bill: Trisha Brown & Jeanine Durning Candoco Dance Company returns to Riley Theatre with a vital and virtuosic double bill from two boundarybreaking New York-based choreographers; expanding perceptions of what dance can be.

In Set and Reset/Reset, a recreation of Trisha Brown Dance Company’s seminal work, the dancers move with dream-like fluidity to a driving Laurie Anderson score.

By contrast, Jeanine Durning’s Last Shelter unfolds uniquely at each performance. In an ever-shifting environment, each dancer’s decision-making from moment to moment is highlighted. After a year of working through a pandemic, witness the dancers intimately attending to themselves and one another.

Scottish Dance Theatre Double Bill: Botis Seva & Mele Broomes Scottish Dance Theatre returns with a powerful, raw double bill questioning the world around us.

Combining hip hop, ballet and contemporary dance into an explosive cocktail, Botis Seva’s Tutumucky celebrates revolt against every system trying to oppress us.

In her first commission for a repertory company, Glasgow-based choreographer Mele Broomes’ new work embodies collective stories, creating visceral moments in response to ancestral heritage.

Opening hours Our Box Office is open 10am – 4pm Monday to Friday and one hour before the start of every performance.

Concessions The concessionary rate is available for under 26s, over 60s, full time students, the unwaged and those with a registered disability. Proof of eligibility is required.
