State of The Chapter Does it seem to you that this was a very long and cold winter? We started winter with hardly any snow in December. January brought us -28 degrees below zero temperature with a -55 below zero wind chill. February dumped 39 inches of snow on us and it was piled up over 5 feet high at the end of my driveway. March came in like a lion, but within a few weeks most of the snow is gone and I’m sure that great Corvette driving days are just around the corner.

Here’s a recap of the club events and activities during the past three months.

• Board Meetings: The board was scheduled to meet on January 3, February 7, (Canceled due to weather) and March 7, at Davanni’s in Roseville and our new location in East St. Paul to conduct the club business, including board member reports, old and new business. At the March meeting club members attending included Mark Swanson and Tim Anderson. Members are always welcome to attend.

• Technical Sessions: No technical session was held in January in lieu of a Judging School on January 19, twenty nine members attended at Old Country Buffet in Burnsville. On February 16, twenty attended members Bill Bemboom Carburetor Seminar at Eric’s Repair in Bloomington. No technical session was held in March.

• Social Activities: On February 23, fourteen members (due to poor weather conditions) attended the Winter Social at Mancini’s Char House in St. Paul.

• Judging Retreat: On March 14-17, six members attend the Judging Retreat in Dallas, TX. On Friday we spent 8 hours of classroom instruction followed on Saturday by spending 8 hours of judging cars on Exterior, Interior, Mechanical, and Chassis.

We continue to look for suggestions from our club members on how to improve our club events and increase membership participation. I would like to see new faces and I would like to do new things that are of interest to our club members, but that’s up to you the membership. Let’s make 2019 the best year ever!!!

Paragon Rewards Program continues in 2019

As announced in last quarter’s newsletter, the 2018 Paragon Rewards Program results were an outstanding $630.00. The chapter wants to again THANK all those members that have signed up to participate and use Paragon for their parts. At an upcoming board of directors meeting the board will decide on how to use this money/certificates to further benefit our members and chapter. If you have any ideas on how to use this money/certificates please let one of the board members know. We are always looking for new and creative ideas on how to improve the chapter.

Membership Update As I write this article in early March, we are receiving another six inches of heavy wet snow. When will this winter end so we can think about bringing our Corvettes out of storage?? I just returned from the Florida Regional and saw several members. There was a lot of action this year as they combined with Carlisle Events. In addition to the NCRS judging, there was an auction, swap meet, vendors and a car show. It was a fun trip and the weather was great.

We have three new members who have joined our chapter this quarter bringing us to 126.

Jeff Carlton recently moved from California, where he was a member of the Northern California Chapter, to Hill City, SD. The Black Hills area is a beautiful place to drive a Corvette. Jeff has a 1959 red with white coves convertible powered by the 245hp engine. This Corvette earned the Duntov Award. He also has a 1970 Bridgehampton Blue hardtop with the base motor. Jeff does have family in Minnesota so we look forward to seeing him down the road.

Greg Filkins lives in Cottage Grove, Minn. and he heard about our chapter from Chris Enstrom. Greg is the proud owner of a 1964 Corvette.

Bill Newberg resides in Lino Lakes, MN and joined our chapter through the NCRS Website.

Chapter Happenings February Tech Session hosted by Eric’s Repair of Bloomington The North Central NCRS held a tech session on Saturday, February 16th at Eric’s Repair in Bloomington, Minnesota. Eric Peterson was our host and graciously allowed us to use his repair shop for the event.

Eric’s Repair has been open in Bloomington for over 15 years and can repair any domestic or foreign vehicle. I had Eric install a Hurst shifter on my 1962 Corvette about 5 years ago and have had his shop repair my daily driver vehicles.

We had around 30 people in attendance – 20 North Central NCRS members, five members from Classic Corvettes of Minnesota and five additional car enthusiasts. We included the Classic Corvette members to see if we can plan more joint events in the future.

Bill Bemboom led the session and he discussed many common issues seen on carburetors. Bill has worked on cars since the mid-60’s and also attended GM tech school in the early 70’s. We discussed the differences between Carter, Holley and Quadra jet carbs. Bill gave us an idea on how each one operates and what issues can occur when carbs aren’t used over the winter months. We talked about the newer fuels and the effects of ethanol on the fuel system and its components.

After the discussion about the different types of carbs, Bill took apart a Carter WCFB carb that Dale Anderson brought to the session. Dale had this carb on a 1960 Corvette he used to own. This carb only had about 1,000 miles on it since it was professionally rebuilt about eight years ago. He took the choke housing apart and found that the internal components were stuck. Bill removed the soft plug to get in and clean the plunger to get the choke to move freely again. Many people have issues with the chokes not opening or closing properly. Most of the time when owners try to fix the choke themselves, they don’t free up the plunger; which is often the most common issue with the system. Continued on next page

Chapter Happenings The plunger on Dale’s WCFB carb was stuck and this carb had very low miles on it since it was rebuilt. It is not uncommon for a carb to have this issue from winter storage and lack of use.

The system uses heat from a transfer tube that connects the carb to the passenger side exhaust manifold. This tube not only transfers heat to the carb, it also sends soot that freezes the plunger in the choke housing.

Bill showed us how to set the float height and check all the internal ports in the carb. We discussed what to look for when you have common issues with carbs. I asked about a gas smell in my garage after driving my 1962 Corvette. Bill thought I probably had an issue with the float height being too high on my carb; which is causing excess gas in the bowls during storage. The gas smell lingers in my garage for a few days until the gas evaporates out of the float bowls on my AFB. Shawn Hanna, Tech Director from Classic Corvettes of Minnesota, contacted me after the carburetor session and thanked us for hosting such an informational event. Shawn did a very nice write-up about the session and it was read aloud to the Classic membership at their February meeting.

It is apparent from the numerous positive member comments, that they were very impressed with Bill’s presentation. We only covered a fraction of the issues that commonly occur with carbs. I will try to arrange another tech session with Bill sometime in the future to cover how to tune a carb on a car to help with drivability issues.

NCRS Judging is recognized around the world as THE STANDARD in determining originality.

The Judging System is designed to educate each owner about their car as well as providing recognition for excellence in the areas of restoration, performance, or preservation. You can learn to judge through participation. Start out as an observer judge and work your way to Master Judge through the Judges Recognition Program.

JUDGE NCRS Judges are volunteer members who offer their time and knowledge to Judge Members Cars under the guidance of the NCRS Technical Information Manual & Judging Guide.

Master Judge NCRS Master Judges are volunteer members who have been recognized by the organization and membership for accumulating a minimum of 100 points in our judging recognition program by Judging at events, attending Judging Schools at Chapter Meets, Regional Meets and National Meets. Many have also attended National or Regional Judging Seminars that last for one or two days of intensive instruction and hands on participation.

NCRS Members benefit from mountains of technical information that they can rely on. When you join the NCRS, you access the combined knowledge of thousands of previous members. A group of 19 Technical Advisors, who are recognized as the authorities in their fields, are also just a letter or e-mail away. Whatever problems that you might run into has been solved in past years by other NCRS members.

At the chapter level we are always looking for Tech Session ideas. This is NOT the chapter coming to work on your Corvette. It is the chapter coming to HELP YOU work on your Corvette as you learn more about your piece of American History. My wife Carol and I are the proud caretakers of a 1958 Corvette, Silver/Blue, 283, 270 HP, manual 4 speed, with a convertible and hardtop. We have owned a couple of private aircraft over the years but decided to move away from aircraft ownership and purchase an older corvette thinking the costs associated with such a move would be less. As most Chapter members already know, not necessarily the case. I have always wanted a corvette but it just never worked out until about two years ago when we started to look at corvettes in the late 50s and early 60s. The 58 may not be the most sought after corvette but it had the characteristics we were looking for. We like chrome and this car had plenty of it in the right places, along with a few one year only items.

Mission accomplished, our first ride I knew what to look for when preforming a pre-buy inspection relating to planes, but was a novice at what to look for when it came to the corvette, especially for a particular year.

At this stage I was not yet a member of the NCRS and was doing my own learning through the Internet, books, etc., basically flying solo in the clouds. We found a number of cars that were promoted as one thing or the other. I learned early on that you must be careful of what is presented and what is fact when shopping for such a car. My major goal was to find a project car that had a very good frame, body and solid engine that I could work on overtime in my garage. Last December, 2017, we found a car being sold by a private party through a classic car dealership in Phoenix, AZ., that had most of the characteristics we were looking for. We worked the deal and had it delivered to our Blaine, MN, home in January, it arrived in a snow storm.

Using modern technology to repair old technology

I call this our mystery car, as the previous owner decided to remain a mystery, only working through the broker. If there is a lesson learned here, it is to buy from someone who is proud of their car and wants to share the care they have given the vehicle, along with maintenance and upgrade documentation. There was none with this car. I wanted a project car and I got one.

My project started sooner than I planned, as when the car was delivered in the January snow, it would not start to drive it into the garage. My first service call related to our new car was to call Hagerty and have tow truck pick it up the car at the end of the driveway and drop it in the garage. The tow truck operator wanted to take a picture of it as he said no one would believe him that he had picked up a 58 corvette in a snow storm.

Because of the lack of information about the details relating to the car and my own lack of knowledge I joined the National NCRS and our local Chapter in May, 2018. This was a move I have considered one of the most important things I have done since getting involved with our car. Since it arrived I have had one primary goal set, that was to have the car far enough along that I could take Carol for a ride around our block before it snowed this year. I am pleased to say that this goal was met and it was a real thrill to drive it. In fact we put 30 miles on it before getting it ready to be off the road for the winter months. This goal would not have been met without the assistance of Chapter member help, Thank you.

The car originally had a blue/gray interior but the previous owner had put in a black interior, after market steering wheel, and other changes we are not keeping. The fuel tank had been replaced by a plastic aftermarket tank that did not fit properly, which I have since replaced. I’m taking it one system at a time to ensure I know the car in detail and any replacement parts will be those that belong to this car. Our car will be a “driver”. My next goal will be to put a wicker picnic basket in the trunk and take Carol on a picnic to a park with grass and trees, just like you would see in the commercial.

I attended my first Tech Session on November 17th, and found everyone there to be a great group to associate with and very willing to provide help. There will be more Tech Sessions in my future.

I have a lot of work to do on the car to get it to where we want it, but at least I can drive it now.

Member of the Month

February - Steve Zadina Member since 2015. Proud owner of a 1965 Rally Red, 2-Door Coupe, 327/350 HP, 4-speed.

It was early on a sunny June morning in 2015, as my wife and I waited in our open garage. We were anxiously making last minute preparations, moving things around, making sure there was enough space in our three-car garage among our vehicles, bikes and scooters, garbage cans and tools. We heard the rumble of the semitruck and trailer make its way down our suburban street and stop just past our house. The driver jumped out, confirmed our address and opened the back of the trailer. He opened the back gate, set to operating the lift and finally, the car that we’d been waiting for slowly appeared in front of my house. The waiting and anxiety of having my Dad, Gary Zadina’s, most prized possession transported from its lifetime in Nebraska to my house in Minnesota was over. I was excited to have it here, but the weight of my Dad’s death that earlier Christmas hit me again.

This was the Corvette that my Dad owned since 1968. It was part of the family. This purchase made my family a “Corvette family”.

My uncle, my cousin each bought Corvettes after my Dad. There were the countless stories that I’ve heard my Dad tell and re-tell to me, friends and anyone who wanted to talk cars. There were the memories that I made with my Dad riding in the car, at car shows, and taking care of it.

My Dad often told the story of him buying the car in October of 1968 while he served in the Army Reserves in Omaha, Nebraska. After taking out a loan for $2,012, he bought it from a guy who really did not want to sell it. The guy explained that his wife forced him to choose “either the car or her”, and he painfully chose the latter. Fast forward 20 year later, Dad runs into this same guy at the local furniture store. The guy asked Dad if he still had the 1965 Corvette he sold him. Dad proudly answered “yes”. Dad then asked him how married life was going. The guy replied that she left him three years after he sold the car! I think Dad became an even prouder owner of his Corvette that day.

Another favorite story is my parent’s honeymoon with the Corvette. My parents, Gary & Marie were married in July 1970 in the small town of Spalding, Nebraska. The day after their wedding, they jumped into the Corvette and drove from Spalding to Estes Park, Colorado to celebrate their honeymoon. The both recount the story of driving up in the mountains when while going down the other side, Dad realizes that their brakes don’t work. My frantic mother gripped the car door while Dad worked clutch, zig zagging all the way down and coasted into town to the nearest service station. My Dad would always laugh so hard, saying that it was the ride of his life, while my mom recounted thinking she would die such a young wife!

These memories and the time that I’ve spent with my father and this car are moments that I cherish. When my Dad suddenly got sick, we had about 10 days together before he passed away. Among the important items we discussed, such has I love yous, bank account information and passwords, were specific details on and nuances to operating and maintaining his Corvette. I don’t think he was too eager to leave it behind – he would have taken it with him if he could.

I’ve owned the Corvette for four years now. Since that time, my Mom has passed away too. This beautiful rally red coupe, as it sits in my garage among more bikes and scooters, is a visual reminder of my Dad and my Nebraska home. Life is busy with three young kids, so the time spent tinkering on the Corvette or when I can sneak away for an hour for a summer drive are precious to me. I realize that all these stories my Dad had with the car are a part of me, but now it’s time for me to make new memories. My wife, Beth, and I now have three girls (Abby, Suzy and Maggy). I wonder what Corvette stories they will share someday.

My Dad must have been in member of NCRS back in Nebraska in

the 1980s because I found a patch and plaque while going through his work shop. This inspired me to keep involved with the NCRS Corvette community. The North Central Chapter has been a great resource for me to continue Dad’s pride for the originality of the car.

My last project on the Corvette was in 2018. I replaced the brake calibers and refurbished the master cylinder. My next project is to take out the front left headlight. It has needed help rotating for over 15 years. I’m excited for the weather to be warmer and days to be longer so I can enjoy my Corvette once again.

Member of the Month When I saw the c3 for the first time thought it was like a space ship on the ground.

After joining NCRS in 2015 I have enjoyed tech sessions and judging meets.

I look forward to becoming more involved as I approach retirement and plan on continuing to replace what ever is needed on the car and keeping it original for the most part.

Great group of people and extremely knowledgeable. Will always have a Corvette and who knows what is next!

March - Craig Burton Married for 29 years to wife Juli we have two daughters Stephanie (27) and Sophie (23). We live in Maple Grove.

I have a dark blue 1978 base model with a four speed L48. Found it in state of Virginia after looking online for two years.

I met NCRS member Bill Kohl after posting questions I had about the car on Corvette Forum.

He messaged me since he also had a 78, we started up a friendship and I joined the NCRS around May 2015 when I bought the Corvette.

I first came into contact with a corvette as a kid sitting in driver’s seat with a family friend and ever since then, I said that I would have one some day.

Have you Seen This Corvette An NCRS member needs help to locate a 1978 Silver Anniversary Corvette that he ordered in October 1977 from Krabbenhoft Chevrolet in Northwood, North Dakota and took delivery in April 1978. He sold the car years ago and since it has gone through several owners and lost track of its whereabouts. He has some of the original documentation which he would like to reunite with the current owner.

The car has oyster cloth interior and roll-up windows. The VIN is 1Z8748S424518 and some of the options include L82, M21 and FE7. He did a VIN search and found that the title was transferred in January 2013. The buyer was from Minnesota and to the best of his knowledge the seller was from Grand Rapids, Minnesota.

January 3, 2019

Board Members Present: Alden Miles, Jerome Lardy, Chris Enstrom, Paul Burski, Bob Lund, Don O’Grady, Roger Carlson, Nick Kornder.

Approval of Minutes Meeting Minutes from the Nov 1, 2018 meeting – Motion to approve by Chris Enstrom, seconded by Bob Lund. Motion passed.

Chairman’s Report Alden mentioned that he and Paul Burski have approached the Classic Corvettes car club about giving a short presentation about the NCRS. Special emphasis would be placed on the new Concours judging which is for Corvettes that have been modified beyond what we would normally see under Flight judging. Since we have several chapter members that are already Classic Corvette members, this seems like a logical group to start with. If the presentation has positive results, we would possibly reach out to other Corvette clubs in the area.

The Board would also like to see more members involved in club activities and extends an invitation to all members to participate not only in judging and tech sessions, but in social activities too.

Vice Chairman’s Report Paul is reviewing quotes for chapter window stickers and will present to the board at a future date.

Treasurer’s Report.

Roger has completed the 2018 books and we made a little money this year.

Roger stated he will need to send a $500 deposit to the NCRS for the upcoming 2020 Regional.

The motion for approval was submitted by Bob Lund and seconded by Alden Miles. The motion carried.

He will work on the 2019 budget and submit that to the board.

Judging Report The NCRS Judging Retreat for March 14-17 in Dallas, TX is now closed. Chris is aware of six members who will be attending this event.

A motion was made to host a judging school/breakfast to be held at 9am on January 19 at the Old Country Buffet, 14150 Nicollet Ave., Burnsville, MN 55337. Roger Carlson made the motion and Alden Miles seconded it. The motion carried. It will be a power point presentation about the St. Louis Assembly Plant and was produced by the former Plant Manager. The chapter will pay for the breakfast of all who attend. Members will earn one judging point.

Our chapter judging meet in May is online at the NCRS website. Sign up to judge or to register your Corvette to be judged. Chris stated that we possibly have a 58, 63, 78 and 81 so far. Please register your car if you have not already done so.

Jerome has offered to host another judging school prior to the fall chapter judging meet.

Discussions about the upcoming 2020 regional were started. Chris stated we will need volunteers for a wide range of duties as we get closer. Past finances were presented by Roger Carlson and discussed.

Membership Report We have one new member, Jim Kozlowski. Membership is at 131.

Notices for renewing memberships have been sent out. Jerome will start contacting members directly that have not renewed. The 4th quarter report for the Chapter Top Flight Award will be submitted.

Tech Report The tech session on Nov. 17 at Joe Galindo’s home went well. They worked on John Ikeda’s ‘63. Bob is looking for members who would like to work on their Corvettes for a tech session. If interested, please contact him or Paul Burski.

Activities Report Don O’Grady reported that we are all set up for the winter dinner at Mancini’s in St Paul on Feb. 23. 6pm social hour, 7pm dinner. Please contact Don if you would like to attend. Door prizes will be awarded. The Spring Opener will be April 27 at Cowboy Jacks in Woodbury.

Don will reach out to Tim DeAtley who had offered to host another get together at his place in Menomonie, WI. A date will need to be determined.

Newsletter Report The 4th quarter newsletter was sent out to the membership. Another great job by Nick.

We are always looking for member articles of interest to the chapter.

Member-at-Large Report Kevin Sullivan reported that Mike Holmquist is the Member of the Month for January. Read more at northcentralncrs.com.

Old Business None New Business Discussion was held about possible items the club can purchase to pass out at upcoming judging meets, tech sessions, etc. to encourage membership participation. In the past we have given out baseball caps, t-shirts and key fobs as examples.

Roger reported the day after the board meeting that the chapter will receive $630 from the Paragon Rewards Program. This is $300 more than what we received last year. Thank you to all our members who participated. The board will discuss at the next meeting how we want to distribute this to the chapter. In the past we have had gift certificate drawings at our functions to encourage participation.

Chairman’s Report Alden and Paul Burski will be giving a power point presentation on March 12 to the Classic Corvettes car club. This will be about the new NCRS Concours judging which is for Corvettes that have been modified beyond what we would normally see under typical Flight judging.

Alden received some pamphlets from the Queen City Chapter (Cincinnati) about their upcoming Regional on April 11-13. We talked about maybe doing something similar for our Regional in 2020.

Vice Chairman’s Report Paul presented quotes for the North Central Chapter window clings that we are considering. Tim Anderson mentioned that this was his type of work and he would look into a couple more possible options. A decision was put off until the next board meeting.

Treasurer’s Report.

Roger was able to file the chapter’s 2018 taxes with the IRS after the government shutdown ended. The Judging School in January at the Old Country Buffet cost $295 and was well attended. The membership dues are almost in for 2019 and payment has been received for several cars we will be judging in May. All is well financially.

Roger reported we had $630 in Paragon Rewards that we will receive. A discussion was started on the best ways to use them to encourage members to host tech sessions and participate at other events.

Membership Report Jerome has almost finished receiving the chapter dues for 2019. We have three new members that have joined the chapter. Jeff Carlton lives in Hill City, SD, Greg Filkins resides in Cottage Grove, MN and Bill Newburg lives in Lino Lakes, MN. The 4th quarter report for the Chapter Top Flight Award was submitted and we were informed that everything looked good.

Tech Report The tech session on Feb. 19 at Eric’s Repair was a presentation by Bill Bemboom on carburetors. There was a good turnout and great interest was shown by the attendees. Paul asked the board to approve two $25 gift cards for Eric and Bill for hosting and giving the presentation. Chris Enstrom made the motion for the gift cards and Bob Lund seconded the motion. The motion was passed.

Bob is looking for members who would like to work on their Corvettes for a tech session. If interested, please contact him or Paul Burski. At this time a March tech session had not been finalized.

Activities Report Don O’Grady reported that due to the weather issues we keep having in February that maybe the board should consider a date when snow will not be a factor for one of the social events.

The Spring Opener will be April 27 at Cowboy Jacks in Woodbury. Hopefully the snow will be gone by then.

Don has talked with Tim DeAtley who has offered to host another get together at his place in Menomonie, WI. The tentative date is July 20.

The NCRS Membership in the North Central NCRS is open to person interested in the restoration, preservation, and history of the Corvette produced by the Chevrolet Motor Division of General Motors Corporation from 1953 thought 1999. NCRS is not affiliated with Chevrolet or General Motors.

Membership in the North Central Chapter of the NCRS is open to all members of the NCRS National organization. Dues payable to the North Central Chapter are $25.00 per years. All editorial materials should be sent to Nick Kornder, Editor, (Kornder@NorthernSun.org). Advertising in the North Central Newsletter is free to all active members for personal items. Commercial advertising rates for the newsletter are: $12.50 per year for a business card; $25.00 per year for a half page ad and $50 per year for a full page ad.

Deadlines for articles and advertising are: March 1, June 1, September 1 and December 1 of each year.

The NCRS Judging Process The NCRS has compiled and is constantly updating highly detailed judging standards and rules for each basic model division from 1953 through 1999. The guidelines in these NCRS Technical Information Manuals are recognized throughout the hobby as THE STANDARD in determining originality.

The judging system is designed to educate each owner about their car as well as providing recognition for excellence in the areas of restoration, performance, or preservation. It is not a “cleanliness contest” like other events, nor do you compete against your friends’ Corvettes. Judging is not done by some secret group of “experts”.

You can learn to judge, or you can have your Corvette evaluated by other NCRS members. 10,516 members are currently recognized for their judging expertise. They have created 27,871 NCRS judging records through NCRS events internationally to date.

New Item Added NCRS has recently announced the addition of an Award Confirmation Document Service.

This service will provide a confirmation document with a complete listing from the NCRS database of the available award statistics for a specific Corvette. The presence of this confirmation document will assure the owner of the NCRS judging history on a Corvette.

North Central Chapter to Host 2020 REGIONAL Regional Judging Event – Rochester, Minnesota – June 11-13, 2020 As you have probably heard by now, the North Central Chapter is hosting one of the six Regional Judging Events in 2020. The event is set for Thursday-Saturday, June 11-13, 2020 in Rochester, Minnesota. If you are interested in seeing some great Corvettes, learning more about the NCRS Flight Judging system, and meeting people from around the country, we would love to have to come to Rochester! The event starts on Thursday with the event check in and Operations Judging. The cars then proceed inside the Graham Center Arena. The evening wraps up with a 1 point Judging School put on by the National Judging Chairman, David Brigham and a Welcome Reception. Friday will see a full day of Flight Judging and a 3 point Advanced Judging School.

Saturday will see the remainder of Flight Judging and a second 3 point Advanced Judging School. Saturday evening is the awards banquet and we’re done!

Here are the different ways you can participate at the Regional.

• Increase your judging knowledge by attending three different judging schools (receive a maximum of 7 judging points) • Participate as an Observer Judge and assess some really great Corvettes as they go through the judging process • Volunteer to be a tabulator • Volunteer for tasks that need doing to help the Regional be the best event it can be • Bring your car down and have it judged • Drive your car down and enjoy the event If you have any questions at all, please reach out to me. MAKING JUDGING SHEET REFERENCES BASED ON THE C-D-C-I-F As the NCRS judging system is based on 5 different descriptions for ORIGINALITY, with each having a value of 20%, it is most helpful to the owner, that we use the same descriptions for the comments on the sheets, when we judge their cars.

C = CONFIGURATION D = DATE C = COMPLETENESS i = INSTALLATION F = FINISH The use of words like “Service Replacement”, “Reproduction” or “Restoration” are very little to no help to the owner, since they do not describe WHAT the difference to original is.

Since we judge the APPEARANCE of ORIGINALITY, we do not care where the particular judged part comes from (Original GM, Restoration Parts House or Neighbors Shed).

Certain parts, which do not reflect any Originality based on the CDCIF (Full Deduction) are not listed on our Standard Deduction Sheet. Such parts may be described as: SiGNiFiCANtLY DiSSiMiLAR. A good example is the typical parts-house (AutoZone, O’Riley etc.) Cooling Fan Clutch.

Judging Example: One of the most often “non-original” parts encountered on the chassis are the shock absorbers. They are a single line item and have a value of 5 points. Based on the CDCIF we can make the following determination: Configuration: Check nuances on the shock absorber body (may be different print, “Made in Mexico” etc.)

Date: Check for presence of date. (Not necessary, if a non-typical configuration has been detected) Completeness: Are any factions missing??

Installation: Are the bolts, washers at their intended places and orientation (or reversed)??

Finish: Is the shock painted in a typical finish (lower bushings free of paint etc)??

Conclusion: A shock absorber with “Made In Mexico,” finished and installed in a typical manner would differ in the Configuration (1 Point) as well as the Date (1 point) since we know that a shock with such configuration was manufactured later than the car. Total deduction would be 2 points.

Conversation Starter 8 Fastest Corvettes of All Time From 0 to 60 We have come to expect nothing but record-breaking performance from the Corvette nameplate over the decades. And every iteration of America’s sports car raises the bar significantly. Before GM spoils us once again with a new C8 ‘super’ Corvette, let’s take a look at the fastest production models the brand has produced, from a standing start to 60 miles per hour.

The latest crop of Corvettes is, of course, the most technologically advanced to date. So it is no surprise to see that so many on this list are of the C7 generation. The mid-tier Corvette Z51 is the eighth fastest Corvette in history with a blistering 0-60 time of 3.8 seconds.

The final production year for the C6 saw a 427 model that featured a new 7.0-liter V8 that produced 505 horsepower.

This special model of the C6 Corvette boasts an impressive 0-60 time of 3.8 seconds as well.

6. C6 Z06 Centennial Edition Number 6 on the list is another special edition of the C6 ‘Vette. The Z06 Centennial Edition featured the same powerful 7.0-liter V8 engine as the 427 model. This model also got from 0 to 60 in 3.8 seconds.

5. C6 GT1 Championship Edition The GT1 Championship Edition was a tribute to Corvette’s success in the GT1 endurance racing competition. This was a track-focused iteration of the Corvette that was capable of a 3.7-second 0-60.

4. C6 Z06 Carbon Edition

The C6 Z06 Carbon edition was an exercise in weight distribution for the Corvette team. And they just about perfected it with this version of the Z06. Not only are these ‘Vettes incredibly faster on the track than the average Z06, but utilizing the same 7.0-liter engine, this lightweight machine also achieved a 0-60 time of 3.6 seconds.

2. C7 Z06 The incomparable Z06 is perhaps my favorite pound-forpound sports car on the market today. With enough practicality to be a daily driver, and enough performance capability to compete against the most expensive supercars, the C7 Corvette Z06 is about as good as it gets. The Z06 can get from 0 to 60mph in an incredible 2.95 seconds.

3. C6 ZR1

The ultimate Corvette track monster of the C6 generation, the ZR1 proudly represented the nameplate with unbelievable performance on the track. The pinnacle of Corvette for its time could also reach 60mph in just 3.4 seconds from a stand-still.

1. C7 ZR1 And finally, the fastest acceleration Corvette ever made is none other than the monstrous C7 ZR1, at least for now. The supercharged LT5 V8 power plant can propel the ZR1 from 0 to 60mph in 2.85 seconds!
