NCRS NORTH CENTRAL CHAPTER Dave Murphy Editor 279 Lily Pond Lane Vadnais Heights, MN 55127

MAIL TO:

July to September 2016 EDITION

It’s already fall and about time to enjoy the beautiful colors of fall foliage. Be sure to take your cars out for a ride before putting them away for the winter. We had a good chapter judging session in August with six cars. Thanks to our sponsor, Steve Hendrickson, for hosting the event at his facility in Long Lake, Minn. The weather was rain, and more rain, so Steve made room for judging the cars inside. We had five Top Flight cars and one Second Flight car. One week later, a group of six members from our chapter headed off to Carlisle, Penn. to find just the right parts for our cars. We all had a good time together, but also met up and spent some quality time with our neighbor NCRS chapter members from Wisconsin and Illinois. If anyone is interested in joining this yearly trek, please contact our tour director, Bob Lund.

And if you will look at our calendar, you will see our 2017 newly elected board members. Congrats. Drive safe and have fun!

MARK YOUR CALENDARS: FEBRUARY 18, 2017 ANNUAL MEMBERS MEETING All North Central Chapter members are invited to attend the annual members meeting. Three new members have joined our chapter this past quarter which brings us up to 133 members. Steve Zadina resides in Prior Lake, MN and is the proud owner of a ’65 red/ red coupe with the 327/350hp motor. This was originally Steve’s father’s Corvette that he purchased after getting out of the Army. Steve took possession of the car and all the great family memories it represented after his father passed away. Dave Schabel lives in Eagan, MN and met Don O’Grady and me at a car show in Eagan. Dave has a white ’70 coupe with the red interior. It has the 350/300hp engine with the Turbo Hydro 400 transmission. Craig Burton posted a question on the Corvette Forum and Bill Kohl replied and invited him to our chapter judging meet. Craig was able to observe what the NCRS is about and decided to join our chapter. Craig has a dark blue ’78. Welcome to our newest members and we look forward to seeing you soon at one of our upcoming events. On a sad note, Dave Martin passed away on Aug.15. Dave was a long time NCRS member and with his wife Arlene, they had many great years together enjoying their ’66 coupe. He will be missed. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Arlene and the Martin family. Jerome Lardy Membership Chairman

Dave Martin

Our chapter set up an NCRS booth at the 9th Annual Vettes for Vets car show sponsored by our friends at Classic Corvettes of Minnesota. This was held on August 14 and it was a beautiful day. We had eleven members attend and a good time was had by all. Four members received “Top 15 trophies, Dave Gooley, Jerome Lardy, Nels Estrem and Paul Burski.

2016 North Central Chapter Meet I am pleased to report that we had a successful Fall Chapter Judging Meet on August 20th. There were six cars that participated in Flight Judging and one car for Sportsman. The results are as follows:

1965 - Bob Lund - Second Flight 1967 - Steve Hendrickson - Top Flight 1969 - Steve Hendrickson - Top Flight 1969 - Doug Jolstad - Top Flight 1972 - Tom Durdahl - Top Flight 1980 - Mike Meirovitz - Top Flight 2008 - Ken Traverse - Sportsman

My thanks once again to our Chapter Sponsor, Steve Hendrickson, for hosting the Chapter Meet. He very graciously made space inside his building for us to judge the cars. That came in really handy as it rained heavily for most of Saturday. Thank you also to the tabulators and judges for making it such a successful meet. See you at the next Judging related event!

The North Central Chapter was proud to host another Judging School this fall at the home of Dave Murphy. The subject of the Judging School was reviewing the results from Chapter and Regional Flight Judging events for two cars. Dave Murphy had his 1966 convertible and Mike McDonald had his 1965 convertible at the school. Many of our Chapter members who have their cars Flight Judged are interested in achieving higher level awards (Regional or National Top Flight, Duntov / McLellan / Hill Mark of Excellence, Performance Verification, etc). For a complete list of awards available, go to our Chapter website at www.northcentralncrs.com. Both of the cars that we looked at achieved Top Flight at our Regional earlier this year in Rochester. The process we went through at the judging school was to look at how to improve their score while still maintaining a financial budget. We discussed the concept of "dollars per point" and how you can figure out which points to pursue based on their total value. The school was well received by all. We will have additional Judging Schools next year and we are always interested in what type of content you want to see discussed. If you have some specific needs, please reach out to Chris Enstrom to discuss building a Judging School for next year. See you all at the next Chapter event!

With the threat of rain dissipated, we assembled in Eagan and began our road tour. We were too early for Fall colors, but we did enjoy some nice roads and drove through some picturesque towns on Saturday September 24. The first stop was Red Wing which always reminds me of the typical River Town with its boulevards and older buildings. It was over the river and onto Spring Valley for a very tasty and unique Cheese Shop. Then back in the cars to Belle Vinez Winery for some wine, fellowship, music and epicurean delights. Still no rain and on the road again home. See you on the next Road Trip!
