Mary and I are currently at NCRS National in Charlotte North Carolina with our good friends Ron and Jude Hendrickson, Dave and Pat Smith, and Steve and Betty Johnston. We are having a gas. We did two sets of laps on the Charlotte Motor Speedway. What a thrill! You should consider attending a National in the future as fun is always at hand.

Next up is our Chapter Meet in August. I believe we have 7 cars so we are looking for judges! Please consider judging with us.

We have been awarded a Regional meet in Rochester Minnesota in 2012. We are looking for various committee volunteers. Let Dale Crosby know if your interested in helping out on a committee.

Our annual election of the club board is in October.

We still have several open positions. Please contact any board member if you're interested.

Since our last newsletter we had two new members join the chapter. Mike Kittle from Woodbury, MN has a numbers matching 327 1968 convertible. Chapter member, Kris Enstrom enticed Mike to join us. Thomas & Susan Hafner live in Eagan, MN and have a 350 HP 1967 that they have owned since 1969. They found us through our Tech Director, Bob Lund. Welcome to the chapter!

As we enter the new year, our chapter will be looking for the membership to step forward and fill some vacancies that are coming open.

Please consider joining the board and keeping this organization going.

The future open positions are:

President, Activities Director and Newsletter Editor Denny and Paul have been longtime members of the board and I am sure will be missed on the board. I am confident they will remain very active members . As some of you know, I have relocated to Houston, Texas to start my next big adventure. I will continue to fill the newsletter position for the rest of this year. I have really enjoyed filling this position. Please consider volunteering for one of these positions and keep our chapter running strong!

7. Bill indicated that we should have better representation in the Chili Challenge and we discussed how to accomplish that.

Tech – Bob reported that he has had two tech sessions so far. The next one is scheduled for June20th at Bill Kohl‟s. Bob can‟t be there, so Don will make the calls to see if Matt or Steve can handle that. The following one will be on Chris Enstrom‟s car, date to be determined.

Judging – Dale reported the Chapter Meet will be on August 15th at Steve‟s and we have six cars registered. We‟ll get started on the 2012 Regional Meet planning soon.

Don is looking for a restaurant for our Winter Social.

Dale is having special NCRS key fobs made. A motion was made, seconded, and passed that the Chapter will purchase enough to give to judges at the Chapter Meet.

Dale‟s looking for a better price on the calendars in order to continue providing them.

North Central Chapter Board Meeting Minutes July 1, 2010 Members present: Denny Adams, Don Goldsbury, Jim Fenske, Mark Ogren, Bob Lund, Paul Wozny, and Dale & Val Crosby.

Members absent: Steve McWhirter, Bill Kohl, & Jeff Goldsbury General Member present: Darrell Hinklin Meeting held at the Medina Entertainment Center. It was a beautiful evening and most of us drove our Corvettes. We were able to enjoy seeing some other “classic cars” at their event.

Denny called the meeting to order at 7:55.

Denny has received an IRS approval of extension for exempt organization, Return Form 990. The board agreed that the filing should be the responsibility of our treasurer. Denny will talk to Steve to have him file.

Minutes of the June meeting were approved as submitted.

Don is still checking on a restaurant for our Winter Social. It was decided that it will be held on Saturday, January 8, 2011.

Jim reported that there are no new members.

Bob reported that there will not be a tech session in July.

BODY OFF May, 2010

Nothing brings out members to a tech session better than a body off or as far as that goes a body on demonstration. On Saturday May 1st approx 23 members assembled at my shop in Ramsey, MN to witness & participate in the body removal & inspection of a 1964 Coupe. The car owned by member Keith Macenroth is very much an original 64 with approx 80M on the odometer. Keith has owned this car for over 30 years and thought that he had stored the car properly but found out that the previous owner must have driven the car in salty Minnesota winters as the frame was seriously rusted.

Keith purchased a new frame from Corvettes of Michigan, and everyone agreed that it looked great. Keith contracted with me and my neighbor Nick Maras (ASE Master Certified GM Mechanic) to do the restoration. Before the body off started we made a list of THINGS TO DO before pulling the body. As they do on TV- most of the things required were pre done before the session, but I went through the process one by one to show what had to be done. There was approx 12 hrs labor to get to the actual body pull.

As I have a car hoist in my shop, I fabricated 4 lift shoes to fit the mid year body. This worked well and

provided a safe way to lift this body without injury to the car or person.

The body came off without a hitch and a though inspection started. The frame was definitely bad but had original serial #s as well as the engine, trans & rear. The master cylinder, carb, alt,and ex manifolds were also correct.

We broke for lunch about 11:30 and got back to the disassembling. By 1pm we were in good shape with the engine ready to pull and the gas tank removal process. To keep costs down the owner is going to participate as much as possible in the rest.

I would like to THANK all attending members for their help and expertise- especially: Bob Lund- Ron Hendrickson & Jim Fenske.

Now for the commercial: After 45 years in the electrical trade I have decided to move my Corvette hobby to a supplemental retirement business. Nick Maras & I have done several Corvette body off restos as well as mechanical, electrical, suspension, body & interior repairs. We do allow customer participation at any level they are comfortable with.

June Tech Session About 7 members showed up for the June tech session, it turned out to be very educational for me and I hope the others. I've been having a lot of problems with my cold start and idling.

I attempted to fix the problem myself and soon realized I was way in over my head. I offered to host the June tech session but I made it clear I could not explain or even give someone any idea of what needed to be done. Steve Johnston agreed to be the instructor, thank goodness.

I dropped my car off on Friday at Steve's house so it would be cold for the session. We found a number of things wrong with my car.

To start with, the choke was not set correctly. Once this was adjusted and the rod hitting the air filter housing was adjusted, the car started up great. I must have looked like the deer in the headlights. Itâ€&#x;s never started that easy before.

We also found the vacuum choke pull off was bad and will need to be replace, the heat riser is bad and will need to be replaced along with the EGR valve. Some of these problems have prevented me from running on all 4 barrels.

One indication that I was running on 2 barrels was poor gas mileage. I've noticed this year my mileage seemed to have drop considerably. Many thanks to Steve as there is no way I would have figured out these items are bad.

Much thanks to Gene and Fraser for setting up a great weekend! We hit seven wineries on Friday and Saturday while experiencing a bit of rain but that didnâ€&#x;t deter us. The event was well attended by 10 couples and everybody had a super time.

We had a very good turnout of Corvettes from the chapter plus additional members that judged and observed. We had three „67s Chris Enstrom „s, Steve and Pam McWhirter‟ s and Bev Larson‟s (Barry); Ron and Jude Hendrickson‟s ‟65. And the ‟81 of Jeff Will, a new member from Jordan.

In addition Dale and Val Crosby drove their new Z06 2006 and Mark Ogren drove his ‟66 convertible. Dale, Mark and Ron judged also. Val was the Master Tabulator for the meet. In addition as observer judges, Barry Larson and Steve when not having their cars judged were Observers Judges. Jim Nielsen drove his ‟70 coupe and Mike Schmoll came to the meet on Saturday as Observer Judges also.

The Heartland Chapter hosted the meet and put on a great event for the group. Just over 100 attendees also attended the Barbeque dinner and tour on Friday night of the Dennis Albaugh Chevy convertible collection. He has all the years of convertibles Chevrolets from 1914 to 1975, many Corvettes, Chevelles, Novas and other cars of interest.
