EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW

RAR FASHION

Interview by Sandra Aji

At what age did you first decide you wanted to be a designer?

Kinda late in the fashion world I would say 19/ 20. I have always had a love for fashion but never thought that I was that good from thinking of ideas to sketching and making the garments.

17

demur MAGAZINE - ISSUE 7

But I guess it all came together in the end at the right time in my life.

How did you start out?

Two years ago my friend Rachy - Rachy Mckenzie-Sealy C.E.O of Concreterose clothing gave me a job as assistant designer. At

that time I was having a hard time in my life, so it was a real boost for me for her to give me that job and believe in me. I was there for a year (2008 - 2009) and it gave me the push to start designing again, sketching just getting back to what I love. So it all went from there really.

Why do you think people should purchase your designs?

That is a hard question……….My fashion label is made for women to feel great when there are wearing my garments, to stand out from the crowd. If you want well made garments that will not fall part in a few days

and want to feel and look great R.A.R Fashion is made for you. Dare to do more than just wear, breathe fashion, live fashion R.A.R Fashion. Had to get my motto in there somewhere lol ;-)

What sets you apart from every other designer out there?

I would have to say my work rate, my fashion label is just one of the many things I do day to day and I think I do have a great eye for designing and knowing how to

...Follow your heart and do not get fooled by the hype demur MAGAZINE - ISSUE 7

make any woman look great. Every designer is different in their own little ways that is what makes fashion so great.

Who’s your biggest inspiration in the world of fashion?

I would have to say Alexander Wang, I am just in love with all of his collections. He really has an eye for fashion and hopefully one day I will be a great designer just like him.

If you had to name your 4 favourite designers in the fashion world, who would they be and why?

ALEXANDER WANG I LOVE HIS USE OF DRAPPIING AND COLOUR BLOCKING. ONE OF MY ALL TIME FAVOUTE DESIGNERS Alexander McQueen The king of UK fashion in my eye, his work is just always on point, from the mix of fabric, colors, shoes. I wish I had the chance to work with him R.I.P Mcqueen. Karl Lagerfeld - I love his use of black and white, always a great collection to look forward to. Tom ford – His men’s collections are always great and his first women’s collection was just really on fire loved every garment.

ZIAD GHANEM- I love Three words that his use of patterns, color, describe your cannot wait to see his designs? new collection.

I wanted to do when I was younger. It is just a different form of art for me. I was little mover when I was younger lol lots of videos packed away lol

What is your major plan for your collection in the near future?

demur MAGAZINE - ISSUE 7

Really sad to say but none at the moment, if I am not designing, having meetings, planning shoots, dropping off garments of clients etc etc etc all I like to do is chill with friends and family, lazy in front of the TV and eat way too much lol. Kind of a hobby right? Lol

What advice would you give to other designers starting out?

That is me lol I am still an aspiring Fashion Designer but the only advice I would give is always follow your heart and do not get fooled by the hype.

One word that best describes you as a person. Ambitious
