Oh how time flies by we are now 4 months down the line and yet it feels like it was just Christmas yesterday. None the less as time goes we realise we are getting older and older and when we pass on for whatever reason we aim to leave a legacy behind, something that will show that we once set foot here. What will you leave behind when you leave this world? Life is all about changing and here at Demur we have taken it into our hands to plaster metamorphosis as our theme this month. metamorphosis [ˌmɛtəˈmɔːfəsɪs] n pl -ses [-ˌsiːz]

ART COLLECTIVE

The Kente Ankara Attraction

Giuseppe Zanotti tribal wedges

The dynamic craft of African cloths such as,

Kente and Ankara, art and culture has be-

come trendy and inspirational, also a source for the Western Fashion Designers. African fashion has been diverse in creativity, for example the use of patterns and designs in tribal wear, and floral print. African art is amazing because it has its colourful patterns and symbolic meanings which makes it more than just art. According to Dr. Kwesi Yankah, Professor of Linguistics at the University of Ghana, “they are used not just to praise political heroes, to commemorate historical events, and to assert social identities, but also as a form of rhetoric--a channel for the silent projection of argument” he says. African patterns and prints influences can be seen in the latest spring collections: maxi dresses, leggings, jumpsuits, skirts, purses, bags, wedges, jewellery. You can see many trend setting celebrities embracing the traditional African wear. Trend setters such as Gwen Stefani, Solange and Rihanna seem to promote the art and creativity of Africa. The tribal influence can be used on any product, such as house hold materials, the art is beautiful because it can transform from one culture to another, not only does it look and feel good but you stand out. You can simply purchase material from any African clothing market and make any design of your choice whether it be a, wedding dress or a more complex style, shoes, trainers, hat, scarf’s let your creativity shape your cloth – Debby Osami.

The H&M Saga

UK Olympic Gold Already.

To compliment the season sportswear manufacturers are in for Gold with the upcoming event that we will not dare mention. With global attention it is the perfect time to get your brand out there in front of an audience after no such event will come around for another four years. If you have a brand this may be the time to invest in advertising and pushing your brand, perhaps learn from the big boys, the official Olympic partner Adidas who signed up a deal worth £100m.

‘Who is Next?’

No matter how much we try and hide from it Facebook is powerful interaction tool After receiving 311 “LIKES” on Facebook for her collection Elias Moussa was crowned the competition winner for “Who is Next?” a competition for young and upcoming designers held in France.Elias is currently a student at IFA Paris.

11 www.demuronline.com

We absolutely love anything from H&M , stylish and affordable two words we literally live by. When we heard they were launching a new store chain we were over the moon and sources confirm the store will be called ‘& Other Stories’. H&M’s press office confirmed through a Dutch Newspaper “We see the new chain as a complement to H&M. It will be at a slightly higher price bracket and with a little better quality, but still stay within the framework of our business concept - fashion and quality at the best price.” Well we are counting down already.

Marc Up by Marc Jacobs

He is indeed in touch with his feminine side as he is often seen at the end of his shows in a skirt. Marc Jacobs is taking it one step further by bringing out a cosmetic/make up line. Although nothing is set in stone, talks have already started between him and the cosmetic store Sephora.

Regentstreetonline.com

Yes you ready it right, a website dedicated to Regent Street shop lovers. Honestly it is a street that is hard to keep from even if you are just window shopping, with the likes of Apple, Calvin Klein, Banana Republic and Guess. With the masses of people coming into London this summer, this site will prove to be helpful with a shopping directory that will allow you to browse all 100+ shops on the street.

The much-loved Ritzy cinema in South London marks its 101st birthday this month and we visited the creative hub to find out what it is all about.

The theatrical attraction is located at the heart of 21st century culture - Brixton. The cinema is surrounded by crafty markets, creatives, musicians and aspiring artists, it is South London’s oldest cinema and one of the longest running theatres in the country. Ritzy first opened its doors in March 1911 titled the Electric Pavilion and commissioned by then cinema-chain owner Israel Davis. Initially it was looked down upon, as a cheap basement alternative to more upmarket venues, but ironically, what makes the Ritzy so unique today, is its history. It has managed to outlive all but its most resilient contemporaries, as in periods of crisis most of London's cinemas fell victim to wartime bombing or recession. But the Ritzy remained. Today we know it as a ‘Little Bit Ritzy’ - a popular art-house with a distinctive identity. Since 2003, it has been part of the independent cinema chain Picturehouses along with its sister company Picture House in Clapham. Both cinemas are renowned for their screening of exclusive blockbusters and independent films despite being juggled through various companies over the years. The Ritzy cinema makes something of a change from regular multiplexes, because not only is it cheap, but it also provides nice, conformable seating, a great selection of movies and mouthwatering food. It even has a quirky, sociable bar. There is also a small café on the fourth floor, perfect for hanging out with friends, listening to jazz and drinking coffee. Dedicated fashion followers would be jealous as this particular evening's screening tells the story of influential fashion designer Ozwald Boateng. The behind the scenes documentary was titled: A Man's story. Boateng is one of the fashion world’s most influential menswear designers. At the age of 23, he became the youngest designer, and first black male to open a shop on the renowned Savile Row.

13 www.demuronline.com

Out & About with Demur

The film spans 12 years - starting in 1998, which was a “really tough year” for Boateng. Amid the stress of designing he faced a divorce, and a disappointing 1999 collection. His Savile Row offices were also burgled, and his collection went missing. The documentary also follows the momentous stages of Boateng’s life, including his appointment as Givenchy’s creative director, and the moment he was awarded an OBE for services to the clothing industry. Ritzy provides a great atmosphere, full of bright colours, potted plants, and lovely, lively people. Monday nights are the cheapest with tickets ranging from £6 onwards instead of the usual £10. Tickets can be booked online, which can help to avoid lengthy queues on the night itself. It is also worth nothing that the ritzy rarely screens ongoing productions so it is worth visiting the venue’s website beforehand to find out what is going on and what is being screened. Overall, a really nice period cinema with a laid-back vibe. The Ritzy adds well to the cultural attractions in Brixton and is well-worth popping into just to see if anything's going on! One not to miss. - Emma Munbodh

Loewe´s hashtag

Loewe is a well known brand that represents the very best of Spanish luxury specializing in leather goods, ready-to-wear, accessories and perfumes. Established in 1846, in 1996 the company joined LVMH, the world´s leading luxury goods group, which already works with brands such as Louis Vuitton, Givenchy, Mac Jacobs, Hublot or Möet&Chandon.

In an attempt to approach to youngsters, Loewe have approached their latest campaign differently by including funky young people who certainly do not match with the typical market associated with this brand and its targeted audience of affluent socialites. This unexpected twist created so much buzz it has the brand a trending topic on Twitter.

Could this be a new way of marketing on social networks? Well without any news since the bombshell campaign was published we ask have they achievied their purpose? Well at least everybody is talking about Loewe and that what’s matters when it comes to branding. -Chari Gonzalez

BUSINESS makes sense ...

The small detail that speaks volume. Your business card is your key to many doors it is the thing that most people will remember you with after meeting you, so it should speak lots about you and your business. Make it sociable

You may have seen them on many adverts or even on other cards. What we speak of here is QR codes (quick response codes) these look like bar codes and are readable by Smartphones. Seeing as everyone has a Smartphone these days they are becoming more and more useful as they directly link to website, email and phone numbers, social networks it helps increases the response you get from giving out your card and the main important thing is it saves time of which we are all short of these days.

Personalise your card

You need them to remember you. Make your card stand out by giving them a personal touch to each event you go to. It will make it easier for people to remember who you are and where they met you. It could read, "Hi, you met me at the xyz event." It's just another way of helping to jog the memory of the people who took your card, as chances are they probably met tons of other people on the same day.

17 www.demuronline.com

Have Fun

Turn your card into a handy tool that reflects your business. Perhaps if you are designer you can carve out a dress, that will certainly stick in someone’s memory and show your creativity.

Use the space

Although a business card may seem like a small space to speak about yourself use the space provided including the back. Think of all you have to say about your business and try and include it. What would you want the person you are giving your card to remember. You can use the back of the card to show examples of what you can do. If they have enough information on your card they may not even need to spend so much time trying to look you up.

Nana Afua Antwi is a young model, fashion and designer and philanthropist. She has already graced the catwalk at London Fashion Week and she is currently the face for E'lon Cosmetics in America, but wait there is more… D: Can you tell us a bit about yourself

My name is Nana Afua Antwi and I am an ambassador for Top Model of Colour UK. I am also a philanthropist and a fashion Designer. D: How old were you when you decided you wanted to be a model?

(‘giggles’)that will be when I was 8years I used to walk in my Mum’s heels a lot. Back then my family had no interest in the modeling business but now they see me as a huge inspiration. D: How did your modelling career come about exactly.. How did you get into it?

My modeling career kicked off when I was scouted at H&M by a Model Scout in 2009 and I was put through for London Fashion Week where I walked for established and emerging designers it was the best experience ever. D: What excites you the most about the fashion Industry?

Wow’ I love the catwalk it has always been my moment of truth. More importantly I have been quite fascinated about colour in fashion from various designers I have worked with. The unique ideas of their creativity really inspires me. D: Name your top 3 all time favourite models and why?

I am more into new faces now and am loving this new girl Ajak Deng, she’s fierce I see more of me in her she’s new in the modeling business and doing exactly what I would do that’s why I love her. My second choice will be Katoucha Niane (Senegalese supermodel) she inspired me and last but not least Tyra Banks just love what she does she gave me the business mind to be successful. D: Which designer do you dream of working with one day?

It was a pleasure when I had the chance to work for Matthew Williamson last year but I will be over the moon to work with Armani. D: In short, what is the key to your success?

I always stay humble and professional. I do my best never to let my personal or private issues affect my career. D: If you had to give advice to up and coming models, what would you say?

Aspiring Models need to know what direction of modeling business to want to get involve. I always advice first do research before you even walk up to an agency. Find your niche as modeling is not for everyone.
