Dear Campers and Families:
Thank you for considering Nobles Day Camp for your summer plans. We know you have many things to consider when choosing a program for your child and your family.
Whether you are considering camp for one camper or multiple siblings, it is important to select a program that fits both your child’s interests and their needs. Nobles Day Camp prides itself in providing positive, quality camp experiences for over 65 years to thousands of campers.
Our camp philosophy, created by our founders Grandin Wise and George K. Bird in 1948, is quite simple and was ahead of its time. Nobles campers engage in enriching, hands on activities to increase their self- esteem, social skills and develop personal growth in a supportive and caring environment.
I am proud that our camp is about basic life skills and fun. In today’s stressful society, where children can be over scheduled and increasingly feel the pressure of academic and athletic success, Nobles Day Camp creates a non-competitive environment where campers can develop and practice decision-making skills, follow the principles of respect for self and others, and enhance love of learning without the pressure of “having to be good” at anything!
As you look through our brochure, you will notice our program “grows with your child”. Starting with the Owls Nest (for our youngest campers) all the way through our teen programs, there is a progression of activity choices and program development that is age appropriate. Many of our campers continue through our Counselor In Training Program, with the goal of one day being a counselor! What better way to continue the Nobles Legacy!
While many of our campers come for just 2 or 3 weeks, there is no question, the longer a camper is with us, the stronger connections they make with other campers and their counselors, and the progress they make in swimming, as well as other activities is markedly different.

Philosophy
A safe and supportive environment is at the forefront of our philosophy for our campers. Nobles is accredited by the American Camp Association and takes every precaution to be sure that all of our campers are safe during their time at camp. Through involvement with positive role models in our many different activities, campers learn to enjoy recreation in a non-competitive atmosphere, respect the rights of others, take positive risks, and learn to make choices in a fun and caring environment. At the same time they are gaining positive self-esteem and long lasting friendships with peers and adults.
Outstanding Facilities
The Nobles Day Camp is fortunate to have access to incredible facilities. It is located on the campus of the Noble and Greenough School in Dedham and our 187 acre campus abuts the Charles River.

Health & Medical Information
As required by Massachusetts State Law each camper must have on file a completed physical as well as a current record of immunizations by their physician. Nobles Day Camp requires that all campers have on file:
• completed Health History Form
• completed and signed Parent Authorization Form
• copy of a physical dated on or after June 24, 2012 and signed by a doctor or nurse practitioner
• copy of their immunization record

There is a registered nurse on site, and many of our staff are certified in CPR and First Aid. Our entire camp staff is epi-pen trained.

Nobles Day Camp is in compliance with regulations of the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (105 CMR 430) and licensed by the Town of Dedham Board of Health. Information on these regulations may be obtained at 781.751.9220.

The Owls Nest at Nobles Day Camp
The Owls Nest is an exciting and engaging introduction to camp, providing a wide range of creative activities in a safe and nurturing environment. The varied activities are designed to encourage a camper’s social, artistic and physical development. Owls Nest campers are placed in age appropriate nests (small groups) of 12-16 campers and 3-4 counselors, with a counselor/camper ratio of 1:4.
The Owls have their own special section of the Nobles campus, complete with their own in-ground heated pool. Each nest has an air conditioned indoor home base, however, campers spend a large portion of their day outdoors whenever possible.
OWLS NEST STAFF
Each nest is designed to allow a positive successful experience by placing them in their age appropriate groups. To ensure this, we group campers by the year they will enter kindergarten as we recognize the academic year is the base point of their social, emotional and developmental stage of their growth.

All Owls Nest programs have this option. Every nest receives an instructional swim lesson each morning. Campers who stay until 4:00 will have an additional activity block as well as a free swim period each afternoon.
**Campers who choose the 9 - 2 schedule will have the option to stay in their nest until 4:00 on a daily or weekly basis through our Stay and Play Program. Please see more information on page 5.
Qualified mature staff, many of whom are early childhood educators, fill the role of our Head Counselors. They lead a team of caring, energetic college and high school students, many of them former Nobles Day Camp campers and/or majoring in early childhood education. Owls Nest activities are taught by knowledgeable and creative adult specialists who vary their programs based on age, interests and developmental abilities. These specialists are hired specifically for the Owls Nest campers, focus exclusively on their curriculum, and are not counted in the nest ratios.
*OWLS NEST SWIMMING PROGRAM
Certified swimming instructors work with each child, based on their ability, to progress on their individual swimming skills. Campers are divided into small groups to provide a teaching ratio of 1:5. In addition, group counselors provide assistance in the water. All Owls Nest Campers participate in a daily instructional swim lesson. Our 9am – 4pm campers are scheduled for an additional free swim period daily.
OWLS I & II
This option is designed for our youngest campers. Whether in Owls I or II, the activities and pace of the day are developmentally age appropriate for their camp experience. These programs allow campers ongoing opportunities for social and creative development while participating in a wide range of enriching activities which are fun, exciting and designed to keep campers engaged throughout the day.

FOR CAMPERS entering Kindergarten
While keeping with many of the traditional structures of the popular Owls Nest Program our Owls K program is designed for children entering kindergarten in the fall. Owls K campers participate in several new activities designed to keep them excited, active and challenged throughout the day. These additional activities include: archery, beading, boating, soccer and tennis.
Owls K provides the opportunity for campers to begin the transition to our popular Nobles Day Camp program while maintaining their small nurturing group size. Campers will travel with their nest to our larger campus to participate in these new activities.
Recognizing that choice of activities is an important part of a child’s growth and development at this age, Kindergarteners have one block each day which includes a choice between 2 activities (one active and one passive).
The addition of new activities, the choice element and traveling to the larger camp encourages independence and decision making skills in our campers.
SPECIAL EVENTS and COOKOUT at the OWLS NEST
Every Friday the Owls Nest activity specialists and counselors create a magically fun, theme based world where campers participate in age appropriate, imaginative games and activities. Dressing up for the theme is encouraged for all campers and counselors. Some weekly examples are: Down on the Farm with Barnyard Babies, red wagon hay rides and dress the scarecrow; Knights of the Picnic Table with royal crown ring toss and royal musical chairs and Red, White and Blue Parade for the 4th of July week . The weekly events end with a cookout where campers are provided with hot dogs, hamburgers, veggie burgers, chips, fruit and a popsicle.

FOR CAMPERS entering 1st - 3rd grade
Nobles Day Camp is all about choices!!!
Campers are placed in co-ed groups of children all entering the same grade next fall. Each group has a morning and afternoon swim (one instructional; one free swim) and a group lunch period. Campers supplement the rest of their day with choices from their age appropriate activities list. Each group has a unique schedule which offers children a choice of three or four different activities each hour. At the beginning of each hour, a child chooses the activity in which he wishes to participate. Although counselors encourage every child to try new activities, the final decision rests with the camper.

FOR CAMPERS entering 4th - 7th grade
Recognizing our older elementary and middle school campers want more challenges, many of the tried and true activities continue to be offered at a more advanced level, as well as introducing new and exciting options.
Our Seniors group (entering grade 7) are scheduled to travel out of camp 1 day per week (see page 8) and will follow the activity choices below the rest of the week.
**Certified swimming instruction is provided daily to groups entering 1st - 7th grade. Campers will be tested and put in to the appropriate level (Level 1 - 5) based on their ability. Campers swim twice per day/ one instructional block and one free swim block.

TEEN PROGRAMS
FOR CAMPERS entering 7th - 9th grade
As our campers mature, our programs offer more opportunities to increase personal growth, social development and leadership skills. Campers earn the privilege of traveling, based on their behavior in and out of camp (both with peers and staff.) Expectations increase with each age level as more freedom AND responsibility is placed on the campers.
FIELD TRIPS
Groups balance the many exciting on-campus Noble’s activity choices (see page 7) around their trip schedule. Our Seniors, Eights and Nines all travel out of camp at least once per week. Safety is our main concern. Each group travels in a school or activity bus under close supervision of their group counselors.

THE COUNSELOR-IN-TRAINING PROGRAM
(entering 10th grade)
Offered only to our former Nobles Day Camp campers Must sign up for all five weeks*
July 1 through August 2 (We cannot split weeks)
This intensive training program, for participants entering their sophomore year in high school, is designed to prepare the CIT for working with adults, peers and children of all ages, interests and abilities. The components of the CIT Program will focus on the transition from camper to counselor with the emphasis on leadership skills, problem solving, and peer relations.

*Upon successful completion of the five week program and an invitation from camp management, CIT’s may continue in camp on a volunteer basis (no fee for the additional weeks).
LUNCH
Campers have the option to purchase a lunch or bring their own picnic lunch to camp. Our bagged lunches will be offered Monday through Thursday, on a daily basis, for campers in our Owls Nest Program and in our Day Camp Program grades 1-7. Lunch will consist of a sandwich, wrap or salad as well as fruit and snacks. The cost for this program will be $5 per day. More information and pre-registration will be available in the spring.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
This bag lunch is not available on Friday as we provide a cookout for all campers (hamburgers, hotdogs, veggie burgers, fruit, chips and popsicles).
Milk and water are provided each day for all campers. Microwaves and refrigeration are not available so please plan accordingly.
TRANSPORTATION
Nobles Day Camp does not provide transportation to and from camp.
• Morning drop-off begins at 8:30am.
• The camp day starts at 9:00am
• Carpool lists are available for all families that request them on the registration form.

HEALTH & WELLNESS
Nobles Day Camp Health History Form asks you to share personal information about your child. We do this to enlist parents as partners in the transition from home to camp – so we can provide the best possible experience for your child. We want what you want; a safe, secure, and successful experience, enjoying fun activities in a camp setting.
Some parents are uncertain about what information is appropriate to share. Sharing information may worry you, because you think it might stigmatize your child, and you want camp to be a “fresh start”. Rather, we use the information to make plans, support your child in the best way possible, and to make sound decisions. We are careful to share the information only with those staff members at camp who may interact with your child.
EXTENDED DAY
A supervised program including a choice of quiet or active activities is available Monday-Friday.

While we do offer the opportunity to request one friend, many of our campers arrive at camp seeking new friendships and new experiences. One of the wonderful aspects of camp is the opportunity to meet new people and make long lasting friendships.
In our experience, many children benefit from some separation from their school and neighborhood friends and many campers come back year after year to be with their “summer friends”.
If your child does have multiple friends who are attending camp, there are several opportunities throughout the day for the campers to be together, even if they are not in the same group. Pool time, lunchtime, special events and some shared activities are all ways for them to interact with each other throughout the day.
If you would like to request one friend, there is a place on our application form to do so. Each child may request one friend, and the same friend must also request that child. The friends must be the same age and entering the same grade in the fall.

You can select the days you need per week. Registration at least a week in advance is required based on availability. Afternoon snack is provided for PM Care.
FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE
Our goal is to help as many children attend Nobles Day Camp as possible. We have limited funds for camper assistance.
• The financial assistance ranges from 5% to 50% off the weekly tuition rate.
• To accommodate the maximum number of children, we may only be able to offer assistance for 2 weeks.
• We can offer a sliding scale fee in the following weeks: Week 1 June 24 – June 28

REGISTRATION PROCEDURES
December 3, 2012: Registration begins for new and returning campers. All registrations are processed on a first-come first-served basis in the order they are received.
All applications must be accompanied by a $50 per week / per child deposit. The deposit amount is applied toward the total tuition and is payable by cash, check or e-check (online only). Nobles Day Camp does not accept credit card payments. Deposits are refundable until April 1, 2013. For applications sent after May 10, 2013, full payment of tuition is required.

CHANGES/CANCELLATION POLICY
Once registration is processed, the deposit is refundable if enrollment changes are made by April 1, 2013. After April 1st, if a camper subsequently fails to attend, withdraws, experiences incomplete attendance for any reason, no refund or transfer of any deposit or tuition paid will be made. This applies to all camp programs, including AM/PM care.
You will receive, via e-mail, confirmation of your registration. An additional mailing in June will go out with group assignments, drop off/ pick up procedures, a Parent Handbook with more detailed information (what to bring, what to wear, etc). and any additional information that might be necessary.

Go one exit (less than ½ mile) and take Exit 18 (Great Plain Ave). At end of ramp, turn LEFT (towards Dedham).
Continue 3/4 mile and bear right at St. Susanna’s Church onto Pine St. Continue ¼ mile to the school entrance which is on the right*
TRAVELING NORTH ON RT.128/US 95
Take Exit 16A (east)
Take Rt. 109 toward Dedham.
Follow 109 to second traffic light and turn left onto Pine St. School entrance is the first left turn.
TRAVELING ON RT. 1/THE VFW PARKWAY (Either way)
Turn onto Rte. 109 West (toward Dedham). Turn right at second traffic light onto Pine St. School entrance is the first left turn.
