Rankin Inlet

The communities of Rankin Inlet and Naujaat are in shock and mourning following reports of a brutal slaying in Rankin late in the evening April 26. Dead is Lynnora Siusangnark, 33, of Naujaat, whose body was reportedly found in Rankin's Itivia area. Friends of the deceased informed Kivalliq News that Siusangnark had been on her way home to Naujaat after accompanying a patient to Winnipeg as a medical escort, when she decided to spend a few nights in Rankin Inlet before continuing home. No arrests have been made,

RCMP stated Monday. The Major Crimes Unit and Nunavut's Chief Coroner's Office are investigating the sudden death. An autopsy will be performed. Siusangnark, known for her own efforts with Inuit dolls, is the daughter of well-known Naujaat artisans Noah and Mikki Siusangnark, whose works have been featured in art displays and feature articles in many parts of Canada. Noah was out on the land when the family received word of Lynnora's death April 27, and they had to send people out on the land to find him, bring him back to the community and break the horrific news to him.
