Both Junior and Senior students sailed weekly to achieve their RYA qualifications and learn racing rules in RS Fevas across the first two terms. At the end of the Spring term, NLCS selected three sailing teams to race in the first Dubai Interschools Sailing Schools Regatta, which took place on the weekend of 11th and 12th March. The regatta was hosted by Dubai Offshore Sailing Club and provided two busy days of racing as schools competed in RS Ventures keelboats. NLCS mixed gender and grade teams collaborated to compete in crews “Buss” “Byrant” and “McCabe” against many other schools including Dubai College and Nord Anglia.

All students showed great progression over the course of the weekend. Boat captains, Noah Mansour, Marie Rouanet and Luca Viel coordinated their crew well both on and off the water. In term 3, the sailing focus moved away from qualifications and racing to consolidation and enjoyment with more beginners joining the weekly session.

For NLCS Senior Aquathon, this has been busy this year, often training multiple times a week and often involved in community racing at weekends. At a cluster meet in term 2 against Hartland and English College, U13 and U15 students competed over typical distances of a 150 metre swim and a 1.5 kilometre run. NLCS won the U13 Girls with a bronze medal and the U13 Boys were awarded both the gold and silver medals. The U15 Girls swept up the gold, silver and bronze with the U15 Boys taking Gold.

NLCS won the overall event and continued to train to compete against 20-25 other DASSA schools at Hamdan finals in term 3. It was the first time NLCS had competed in senior Aquathon DASSA finals and with students entered Division 1, the performance league provided stretch and challenge for all our keen athletes. Congratulations to Juliette Price who was awarded 3rd position in the U15 Girls. An excellent season.
