LIBRARY SENIOR
This school year has seen many changes in the Senior Library. Mrs Mendoza took over the day-to-day running of the library at the start of the year making the space available at break and lunchtimes for students to study, read and relax. She used her creativity to initiate a number of activities that engaged the school community in and around the library, a highlight being her World Cup Display & Quiz which included a replica of the FIFA World Cup trophy.
In January 2023 the Senior Library welcomed Ms Kay who took over as the Head Teacher Librarian. This is her return to Dubai, having left 6 years ago to further her library experience in Portugal, China & the United Kingdom. As part of her role, Ms Kay has been teaching Grade 6 and 7 students a variety of library and research skills which they will need as they continue through MYP and into DP. These include the Dewey Decimal System, Lateral Reading, Evaluating Sources, Academic Integrity and Referencing & Citation.

The library has continued to be home to a number of ECAs. Reading Buddies involves older students being paired with younger students who need a little more practice with their reading. It’s great to students role modelling and encouraging their peers to develop their skills. The Oasis magazine group meet weekly upstairs in the Innovation Space working with focus and determination to produce and informative and entertaining magazine. Other groups that meet in the library are the new Carnegie Book Awards Shadowing Group, who read & discuss the shortlisted books for this year’s awards in Writing and Illustration and cast their votes for who they think should win this year.
We are grateful to the many volunteers, whether for CAS, Duke of Edinburgh Award or SA, for all their help with covering, labelling, shelving and generally helping keep their library tidy and welcoming for all community members. We’d also like to thank everyone for their book suggestions which will be added to our collection in the new year.
