The Buss Library has had a fabulous year. We started the academic year in the best way: taking delivery of approximately 900 new books that were selected using student wish-lists, teacher suggestions and a significant amount of research. Our aim is to ensure the collection continues to grow and provide a wide range of options for all readers in Grades 2-5, introducing students to the magical world of literary adventures and supporting research for the Units of Inquiry.

Weekly library sessions now include a read-alouds and students have enjoyed The Grunts in Trouble, Fizzlebert Stump, The Girl with the Shark’s Teeth and Wolf Brother. Additional opening times have been popular, with Early Bird sessions for students who like to sit and read or exchange their books before school. Lunchtime sessions have also been welcomed enthusiastically, providing a calm and relaxing environment where students can curl up and read or spend more time exploring the shelves.

The Read, Write, Relax ECAs have been very popular, and students have enjoyed discovering books that they would perhaps not usually choose. A new library-based ECA will focus on developing future Library Leaders, introducing Library Skills and other book-related activities.

Our Library Leaders have taken a keen interest in the administration of the library this year. They have really enjoyed learning how to issue, return and track books using the library management system and have diligently carried out those tasks during their class library sessions. They have also assisted with shelving returned books, keeping the library tidy and running smoothly. Their enthusiasm is lovely to witness, and their help is greatly appreciated. This year the Library Leaders have been:

Cedric Van Asch

Leah Al Khafaji

Hassan Rajabali

Kiaah Bhatia

Sam El-Sharif

We look forward to the coming academic year which will see the arrival of more new books, resources and a change of décor!
