‘Much is expected from those to whom much is given’, one of our school mottos perfectly encapsulates what the Charity Committee stands for and what we have achieved this academic year. This past year has been filled with a variety of successful fundraising events including ‘Pinktober’, ‘Walk For Diabetes’ and ‘Festive Jumper Day’. Through these 3 events, we have been able to raise over 35,000AED for charities which include Red Crescent and the Al Jalila Foundation.

Our most successful events was ‘Pinktober’, which included a pink-themed bake sale, pink portraits and ‘Pink Day’ where everyone wore pink along with pink ribbons which were made and provided by the Charity Committee. On ‘Pink Day,’ the committee gave an assembly which included an interview with an experienced oncologist who further enlightened us about aspects of breast cancer and the research being done. Through this week-long event, we didn’t only raise money for breast cancer research, we were also able to spread awareness about the issue which affects people all over the world.

Another one of our events was the ‘2023 Book Drive’ which saw a large assortment of books being donated to Little Flower English School. It was incredibly heartwarming to see how many books were donated by our school community. The boxes were overflowing, and the children of Little Flower English School were thrilled to receive the books. In the coming terms, we are planning to have members of the committee go to the school and read to the children as part of the initiative. To say they are excited is an understatement.

Next year, we plan to continue and grow the size and number of our fundraising events. We also plan to start implementing more community service opportunities where we will directly interact with local communities to give students a deeper insight into what issues affect communities and broaden the scope of the committee. The aim would be to provide students with great experiential and service-learning opportunities outside the classroom.

The committee has significantly grown in size which speaks volumes to the values and character of our student body. In every single meeting, students are filled to the brim with ideas, passion, and causes they want to help. It is truly inspiring to see everybody come together unanimously to make the community a better place. One thing that sets NLCS Dubai apart is not only the fact that the students understand and acknowledge the responsibility they have to help those in need, but they also have the drive and determination to make it happen. We the Charity Committee strive to do as much good for the community as possible, and it is safe to say that all the charitable work this year would not have been achieved without the kindness and generosity of our NLCS Dubai community. We want to express to you our immense gratitude and cannot wait to do even more next year. Floors, not ceilings!
