What the does for the students of NLCS Dubai

The MYP is designed to provide a holistic education that focuses on the intellectual, social, emotional and physical development of students. The goal is to help students become well-rounded individuals who can thrive in all areas of life.

Students develop critical thinking skills by being encouraged to analyse, evaluate and synthesise information from a wide range of sources in all subject areas. This equips students with the skills to excel in higher education and future careers.

The MYP promotes international-mindedness by encouraging students to appreciate and understand different culture, languages and perspectives. Students become global citizens who can communicate effectively with people from diverse backgrounds.

The MYP leads on perfectly from the Primary Years Programme and our Grade 6 students join us with the attributes and skills needed to be successful in the senior school. The MYP then provides a strong foundation for students who plan to pursue the IB Diploma Programme within the Sixth Form. The MYP Programme is designed to prepare students for the rigor and challenges of the DP, which is recognized by top universities around the world.

Grade 10 – A force to be reckoned with

As our Grade 10 students end their journey through the MYP, they have a lot to be proud of. A year where they have all conducted a Personal Project, produced ePortfolios in Arts and Design, completed two sets of mock eAssessments, developed critical thinking skills through undertaking an interdisciplinary unit and gave back to the community through worthwhile service as action. These truly are the pioneers of the future and I wish them all luck with their next educational journey.

MYP Projects

The MYP encourages students to develop their passions through its focus on student led projects such as the Community Project in Grade 8 and the Personal Projects in Grade 10. These projects allow students to really develop skills such as research, thinking, self-management and social and communication skills.

Through this personal project, my aim was to gain an understanding of the most efficient ways to guide athletes of all ages and help introduce them to the basics of basketball. More specifically, my goal was to comprehend how to organize, structure, and facilitate various exercises to engage an audience of basketball players and help them develop their abilities.

The product that I have produced is a YouTube channel, which features multiple videos analyzing the 5 main aspects of basketball: shooting, dribbling, passing, defending, and finishing. The aim of the product is for people of all ages and skill levels to be able to learn various drills they can perform and use to develop their individual skill level, and to gain a deeper passion for the sport.

My goal was to be able to write a children’s book, investigating further and learning about the diversity of different types of children’s books. I concluded that I wanted to learn how to incorporate a moral lesson, this is because there would be a purpose for why the children should read the book, they would also be able to learn good values and perhaps apply it to their everyday life.

I intended to create a children’s book which would portray my understanding of ballet as well as the expectations within ballet classes. Additionally, I aimed to reach out to my chosen target audience to convey a moral lesson about kindness throughout the content of the book.

My learning goal for this project is to address the problem that the SMA (Spinal Muscular Atrophy) illness holds in today's society for the patients that are diagnosed. I want to understand the detrimental impact this disease has on their lives and what I can do to help raise awareness and help out in any way I can.

My intended product was to create a charity/fundraising box that allows donations for the children that are affected with this disease in the city which I live in. The aim of this charity box was for it to be distributed around schools in the area and to raise awareness for this rare disease.

At the front of the charity box is also a flyer that explains the details of the illness and how it affects families inside of the region.
