Grade 5

What a fantastic year it has been! Arriving in Dubai in August, I was eagerly awaiting meeting you all and when I did, I was blown away. I met a class of enthusiastic, hard-working and caring children who have made me laugh every day. Over the year, I have watched you embody the IB Learner Profile Attributes and become children who truly represent the values of NLCS Dubai.

During the year, you have showcased your skills and knowledge through a variety of units. You demonstrated your leadership qualities and understanding of what a good leader is in our first unit. Your efforts and commitment to your mini-exhibition paid off in our next unit looking at various ancient civilisations; it was amazing to see what you all produced and the detail in which you talked about your work. In our next units on ‘How the World Works’ and ‘How We Express Ourselves’, you continued to produce high quality work, collaborating and organising yourselves well to create some amazing final pieces. Your PYP Exhibition was the highlight of the year; I felt so proud seeing you all take ownership of your learning and present passionately about an issue that you felt strongly about. I was also impressed with the range of action you took to help raise awareness of these issues.

We have also enjoyed a range of trips and a residential this year. Visiting the Etihad Museum, watching Macbeth and learning more about technology at the Musuem of the Future. However, the residential to Sir Bani Yas Island was undoubtedly the best trip of the year. I enjoyed watching you form new friendships and apply yourselves to a range of activities such as sea survival and mangrove planting. It was an amazing experience and one I hope you will all cherish for many years to come. Now the year has drawn to a close, I want to say thank you. Thank you for making my first year at NLCS Dubai so special; I couldn’t have asked for a better class to start my time here. I wish you all the best for next year and beyond; I know you all have the qualities needed to be successful. Remember to say ‘hello’ if you see me next year – I would love to know how you are getting on!

Best wishes, Mr

Collier
