Teacher: Mr. Roberts, Grade 1 Lead

Our visit to the StuDIYo Lab was a real highlight of the year in Grade 1. It was a day filled with creativity, innovation, and environmental consciousness, as we embarked on a mission to create recycled self-portraits out of e-waste.

The day started with a warm welcome from the StuDIYo Lab team, who explained the importance of recycling and repurposing electronic waste to reduce our environmental impact. The students were amazed to learn about the harmful effects of e-waste on our planet and how it can be transformed into beautiful works of art.

Excitedly, the students dived into the creative process. Armed with a variety of discarded electronic parts like old keyboards, computer mice, and circuit boards, the students’ imaginations ran wild. It was a unique experience and the students carefully selected and combined different e-waste pieces to create their very own self-portraits. They learned about colour, texture, and composition, and how to repurpose materials in an ecofriendly way.

Moreover, the students learned that creativity and environmental consciousness go hand-in-hand, and we can make a positive impact on our planet through our actions. Our recycled self-portraits were a testament to this important lesson.
