Teacher: Nathalie Allen
For the first trip of KG1, the students embarked on the yellow buses to AlSerkal Avenue to further immerse themselves in a world of colour and emotion. With their Unit of Inquiry focusing on how ‘People use a range of mediums to express their feelings’, producing a piece of art within a professional studio was a fantastic experience for the students. They wowed the staff with their expansive vocabulary, suggesting emotions such as frustration, disappointment and excitement.

The students were able to draw on their understanding of which colours represent various emotions, such as yellow for happiness and red for anger or passion and apply before becoming engaged with the challenge of shades such as fuchsia. Throughout the process, it was clear how much they enjoyed learning about brushstrokes and different techniques as they worked to carefully construct their self-portraits. Each student left the studio with pride bursting from each of their faces!
