As I finish my second year at NLCS Dubai it seems hard to remember life anywhere else. I am not sure if this is a reflection of the fast-paced nature of life in Dubai or a symptom of the way NLCS gets into your blood, perhaps it is a combination of both. I can certainly say that the year has flown by, and the hot endeavours to manage traffic in August seem like yesterday.
Having visited numerous lessons throughout the past year, I can confidently say that our commitment to providing an Ambitious Academic Education is clearly evident. The behind-the-scenes use of Toddle in the Junior School has transformed the way teachers plan, enabling more creativity and collaboration than ever before. It also allows for easier and more consistent communication with parents, enhancing the learning experience for everyone involved. Our use of Toddle to communicate with parents in the Junior School has been very well received, and we are now exploring how to extend this approach to the Senior School. The quality of engagement and enthusiasm in every lesson is a hallmark of our school, and this magic weaving doesn’t happen by chance. I have been truly impressed by the commitment of our staff to ongoing professional development this year. They have wholeheartedly embraced the idea that there is always room for improvement and growth in what we do. This is a journey that will never end!
It has been superb to see how the sixth form provision has been further developed this year, alongside new, even more exciting plans for the coming year. Ms. Clegg, Ms. Wilson and Ms. Christian have streamlined our programme of intervention and support, ensuring our students have the academic credibility to be able to make compelling applications to some of the most competitive universities and courses across the world. This summer sees our trial of an internship programme which will provide senior students with opportunities to gain vital experience, taking a wide variety of placements across Dubai.
This has been supported by an amazing online ‘Internships Platform’ coded and developed by one of our Grade 11 students, Paarth Kukreja. I would like to say thank you to Paarth for his hard work, perseverance and sheer genius. I would also like to thank our extremely well-connected network of parents, who have volunteered placements for this summer. If you have not yet been approached by Mrs. Menichini and are able to help, please reach out to her for details on the programme requirements.
Recently we have had the opportunity to celebrate our wonderful Grade 12s, who enjoyed their graduation ceremony along with their families and friends. As they await their final examination results, it is incredibly exciting to know that they will go on to the impressive university destinations and courses already mentioned. With Ivy League College offers, alongside scholarships to a number of US Universities, it is great to see our US applications continuing to expand. Our students have also received offers from LSE, UCL and a host of other Russel Group Universities in the UK, for competitive courses like Political Science, Economics and Medicine. I look forward to catching up with them at some point next year, to hear about their experiences and encourage them to support our current students through our new Alumni network (one of the exciting sixth form developments).
Throughout the year I have had multiple conversations with students and parents about their experiences and, so often, individual members of staff are picked out for moments of generosity or compassion. A teacher taking time to support a student struggling in their subject, a member of staff attending a trip and going the extra mile to ensure everyone has a great time and doesn’t get too home-sick, a member of the security team trying to manage the traffic always smiling despite the intense heat. Our school is a special place to work and this is down to the people inside the building. So I would like to thank our whole staff team for their continued efforts to make our school so brilliant.
With that in mind I would like to say a particular thank you to some Founding members of staff who leave us this summer. Rebecca Michaels and her family took the brave step of taking jobs in a school that didn’t exist, back in 2017. They have invested a great deal of energy and hard-work into the NLCS Dubai project, supporting the development of our school becoming the wonderfully creative and inclusive environment it now is. We wish Rebecca and her family well as they leave for Canada. Chris May leaves after 8 years as Head of Jais House. The relationships that Chris has developed with his ‘Jais family’ alongside the care and compassion he has shown for his students has been an example for all to follow. We will miss him enormously although we are delighted that is stepping up as the VP Pastoral Care in NLCS Jeju. Sangeeth Joseph and his wife Lekshmy both leave after managing our IT development and support, whilst Sondra Haritonides and Princess Tarin both leave after 8 years of supporting parents, students and staff in the Junior school. We wish them all well and thank them for all they have contributed to NLCS Dubai.
A great school is never just about its facilities, no matter how beautiful they are, it’s about the people inside and the community that is created. Our staff are incredible, as already mentioned, but I would also like to take this opportunity to thank our students. Whenever any prospective parent or teacher asks me to outline the best features of our school, I always say the number one element is our wonderful student body. They are inquisitive, curious, hardworking and grow into brilliant young adults. Watching them perform on the stage, speak in assemblies, present Nicholson lectures, guide prospective parents or just interact with each other in school, always makes me incredibly proud. This is also the case with our first ever (and only) Big 6. I have been so impressed with the inspirational way Aarav, Ashok, Imaad, Juliette, Leo and Sannat have led our student body over the past year. They have led with compassion, energy and humility. They have shown skills that will definitely set them apart in years to come and I am grateful for all they have contributed to NLCS.
It is tough to capture all of the achievements from the past year but I think the yearbook team have done a great job! So I hope it provides you with some wonderful memories which make you smile and also feel proud to be part of NLCS Dubai.

A Treasured Year Message
As twilight falls on one more year, We pause to look both far and near. Through open doors and busy halls, A story grew within these walls.
Our children learned with hearts alight, With questions bold and minds so bright. They built, explored, they dared to try— With every spark, their dreams flew high.
Grade 5 took flight with voices strong, To face the world, to right the wrong. With goals that spoke of earth and peace, Their work brought hope and sweet release.
Beyond the books, our days were full— Clubs and teams with vibrant pull.
From racing cars to art and song, Each child found somewhere they belong.
The music swelled in every space, In every note, a quiet grace. Recitals, concerts, joy on stage— Each child a star upon the page.
Our families stood, a guiding light, In morning cheer or evening night. The Parents’ Guild, with tireless grace, Wove warmth and laughter into place.
From stories told on classroom floors, To curtain calls and loud encores— Assemblies rich with pride and fun, Showed just how much each grade had done.
And now, the summer days appear— A time to rest, to hold things dear.
To wander slowly, breathe, and play, And treasure moments lost each day.
As Sydney Harris wisely wrote, Education broadens every note— From mirrors inward, truth may start, But windows open up the heart.
So thank you all, both near and far, For being part of who we are.
With every hand and every cheer, You helped to shape this wondrous year.
And...as I step on to pastures new, Know that I’ll carry this with you.
A school, a home, a place of grace— A treasured time, a cherished place.
And now I wish, with heart sincere, A joyful, bright, and peaceful year.
May summer’s sun your spirits raise— With love, with laughter, and warm days.

Belonging: A yearbook entry inspired by ‘The Name Jar’ by Yangsook Choi.
“It is not the name that makes you special. It’s the stories and the people behind it.”
– Yangsook Choi, The Name Jar
At North London Collegiate School Dubai, this quote could not ring more true. NLCS is more than a name etched on a building, more than a logo on a jumper or initials on a letterhead. It’s a name we wear with pride—but its true meaning lies in the people who bring it to life. The students who arrive with curiosity and courage. The teachers who challenge and inspire. The families who bring stories and traditions from every corner of the world.
Yes, the NLCS name carries 175 years of history and a reputation for excellence. But it is not the name alone that defines us—it is the relationships we build, the values we live by, and the shared moments that make school unforgettable. The laughter on the playground, the discoveries in class, the quiet support during tough days— these are the things that make NLCS Dubai special.
And just as our school’s name is shaped by its people, so too are the names within it. At NLCS Dubai, every name tells a story—of journeys taken, cultures honoured, and identities embraced. It’s not about how familiar a name sounds, but about the person it represents and the meaning it carries.
Like Unhei in The Name Jar, some of us have questioned whether we should change to fit in. Unhei feared her name was too different. But when her classmates offered suggestions, she realised she didn’t need to change who she was to be accepted. “I like my name,” she said. “I want to keep it.” That quiet moment of strength reminds us: true belonging doesn’t come from blending in—it comes from being seen, respected, and valued for who we truly are. This year, we’ve lived that lesson. Belonging isn’t just a feeling—it’s something we create together. It lives in small, daily choices: learning to say someone’s name with care, asking about a tradition, inviting someone in, making room at the table.
This school is not defined by four letters—it’s defined by us. By the stories we carry, the differences we celebrate, and the kindness we extend to each other. We haven’t just learned facts—we’ve learned who we are. And, more importantly, how to help others feel like they belong too.
As we close one chapter and step into another—new grades, friendships, and adventures—let’s carry that spirit with us. Let’s keep noticing others, asking questions, and making space. Because when we do, we don’t just wear the name—we live it.
At NLCS Dubai, you aren’t just a name on a register. You are known.
You belong. You matter.
Thank you for another fantastic year and I look forward to welcoming you back in September as your Head of Junior School.

HEAD OF EARLY YEARS
A Year of Wonder
By the Head of Early Years
In halls where tiny voices rise, Where wonder sparkles in their eyes, I've watched a world of hearts unfold— In hues more vibrant than pure gold.
From Goslings, bold and full of cheer—
Big voices, bright hearts, always near.
Owlets laugh and love to play, With curious minds that lead the way.
Ducklings calm, with artist hands, They dream in paint and build with plans.
Eaglets bounce with endless zest, They learn through play and give their best.
Cygnets love to think and share, With role-play tales and thoughtful care.
Hatchlings shine with gentle grace, And bring a smile to every space.
Starlings, calm with minds so bright, They see the world in colours light.
Sparrows dart through every day, So full of questions, fun, and play.
Larks imagine, soft and sweet, With playful steps and curious feet.
Hoopoes dance and gently sing, In every moment, joy they bring.
Flamingoes, fearless, bold, and loud, They lead the fun and make us proud.
Peacocks, thoughtful, brave, and kind, With wonder bright and open mind.
Each class, a world of joy and light, With stories blooming left and right— From scribbled marks to sentences, From spoken thoughts to confidence.
I’ve watched as numbers start to grow, From subitising all they know— To adding, counting, reasoning deep, In learning journeys, they now keep.
We’ve danced through cultures, days so bright: Eid and Diwali, full of light.
Ramadan’s calm and festive cheer, Chinese New Year’s joy each year. Winter Songs and Christmas Glee, Singing softly ’round the tree.
With every step, they’ve come alive— Curious, brave, and so full of drive. From KidZania dreams to colours wild, At Woo-Hoo joy lit every child, In Heritage Villages, tales unfurled, To Lost Chambers and an ocean world. Curiosity Labs lit up their minds, With wonder, laughter, and thoughtful finds. They’ve grown in heart, in thought, in play, In friendships made along the way.
Each moment etched into my heart— This Early Years, this precious start. A place where magic takes its cue— And I’m so proud to grow with you.

Cygnets Pre KG
Dear Cygnets,
What a wonderful year it has been! I feel so lucky to have spent this special time with such an amazing group of children. Each one of you - Julia, Hussain, Lucas, Mia, Marie-Luise, Soraya, Leo, Arthur, Kloe, Yana, Oscar, HaHa, Xinyan, Sienna, Masooma, Isla, Aarav, Mirvaan, Ria - has brought joy, laughter, and magic into our classroom.
From the very first day, you brought your smiles, your hugs, your questions, and your kind hearts into our classroom, and you’ve filled it with happiness ever since.
Together, we have explored the world, near and far! We’ve learned about Belonging and Communities, and how important it is to care for one another. We’ve roared like dinosaurs, swam deep in the oceans, swung through the jungle, soared into space, and dived into the most wonderful stories.
Our adventures took us to Kidzania, where we tried out all sorts of grown-up jobs, to the Lost Chambers Aquarium, where we discovered underwater wonders, and to Woo-Hoo, where we climbed, slid, and giggled all day long!
You are all explorers with bright eyes and big hearts. You are ambitious, always ready to try something new. You are fun-loving, kind, and curious - the best kind of learners there are.
And none of this would have been the same without the amazing support and kindness of Miss Victoria, who has helped make each day so full of warmth, fun and care.
As you get a little bit bigger and move on to your next adventure, please know that you will always have a special place in my heart. Thank you for making this year such an amazing year. I am so proud of you all, and I love you all very much.
Keep exploring, keep dreaming, and never forget how truly amazing you are. I believe in every single one of you.

Owlets Pre KG
To my wonderful Owlets!
Thank you for being the absolute best class this year, you have made me the proudest and smuggest teacher all year and I am so grateful!
Here is a song just for you (to the tune of Old McDonald):
This whole year the Owlets learned,
E-I-E-I-O!
With some letters here and some numbers there, Here a shape, there a colour, Everywhere a friend to share! This whole year the Owlets grew,
E-I-E-I-O!
We sang our songs and made cool art,
E-I-E-I-O!
With a crayon here and a paintbrush there, Here a smile, there a cheer, Learning fun all through the year! Now it’s time to say goodbye,
E-I-E-I-O!
Goodbye and good luck next year,
E-I-E-I-O!
With a hug here, and a wave there, Here a laugh, there a cheer, Owlets’ hearts are full of cheer!
All my best wishes, Miss Morgan
Pre-KG Communities Exhibition
We have had the most incredible year in Pre-KG, filled with growth, exploration, and learning. One of the true highlights of our year was the Communities Exhibition, where the children had a wonderful opportunity to showcase all that they had learned about the different specialised roles within a community. Throughout our inquiry, the children explored important professions such as doctors, police officers, firefighters, teachers, and many more. They learned how these different people and services work together to create a safe, happy, and supportive community.
To bring their learning to life, the children helped create a model village, complete with a hospital, police station, school, and other key buildings. It was inspiring to see their creativity and teamwork as they reenacted the roles they had studied. They took great pride in dressing up and stepping into character, using their communication skills to explain their roles and responsibilities to visiting parents and peers.
Watching the children confidently interact, ask and answer questions, and show their understanding was truly amazing. They demonstrated not only their knowledge but also key attributes of the IB learner profile, particularly being communicators, inquirers, and caring individuals. They showed great respect and appreciation for the people who support them every day, and their enthusiasm and pride were clear to everyone who visited.
This exhibition was a wonderful celebration of the children's hard work and growth throughout the year. It was heartwarming to see how much they had learned and how excited they were to share their learning with others. We are so proud of all the Pre-KG students and are excited to see how they continue to build on these strong foundations as they move forward in their educational journey!
Flamingoes KG 1
A Flock Full of Fun!
Once upon a time there were some funny Flamingoes, Oh so funny, they gave me laughter in my tummy. They laughed all day and sang away, Loudly, they’d sing their Flamingo song. They’d sing about learning, they’d sing about fun, They’d sing until the school day was done. They’d sing while they wrote, they’d sing while they’d play, They’d sing no matter what the time of day. They were happy, they were joyful, they were sometimes super silly, But no matter what they’d make me smile.
20 Flamingoes always as busy as can be, Everyday they’d impress me. With their imagination, their focus, and their progress, They’d shine a million different ways. Who are they Flamingoes you might ask? Ahmed, Mohammad, Maria, Guransh and Eva, Milan, Ciaran, Yuran, Avyay, Nathan and Zola. Anmi, Reya, Eeshan, Aaron and Ahya, Han, Artem, Liliana and Sofia. The 20 Flamingoes of KG1, Always laughing, singing, learning while having fun!

Larks KG 1
Dear Future Larks,
We were once the KG1 Larks, small in size but mighty in spirit, just beginning our journey at NLCS Dubai. Our bags were almost as big as us, our shoes were sometimes on the wrong feet, and we were still figuring out how to sit on the carpet without wriggling or chatting with friends. But oh, how we grew. We learned to share, to listen, to be kind, and most importantly, to believe in ourselves—just like all our teachers did. We built our confidence one brave step at a time, exploring our world through messy play and endless curiosity. We hope you remember how much fun we had. Remember Mrs Mackintosh’s Irish dancing lesson when our feet flew faster than we ever thought they could. Miss Weller taught us how to tap and shuffle like pros. We sang our hearts out to “Hot Chocolate” with Mrs Peoples and we ran wild over obstacle courses with Miss McIntyre; fearless and free.
Remember how Miss Hammond got absolutely soaked during our Songkran Festival celebration—water and smiles reached every corner of NLCS! Remember when Miss Baptiste was covered in paint at the Wild Paint House, laughing the whole bus journey home. We made memories that stuck—sometimes quite literally! So dear future Larks, when things get tough, and you feel unsure, remember this: if it is a big deal - you are never alone. And if it is a little deal, it’s time to get thinking! There’s always a way forward, you may just have to take some risks and have a go!
Be brave, keep your curiosity alive. Keep playing, singing, dancing, and dreaming big. And above all, remember the joy in everything you do.
With love,
The KG1 Larks, Mrs Mackintosh and Miss Margie
Thank you for the most wonderful year!
Peacocks KG
Peacocks what an incredible year you have had! I can’t believe how fast this year has flown by. You have had a wonderful journey, found your feet and learning about yourselves, going through challenges, evolving with friends and look at you now! You’ve grown so much—in confidence, kindness, and cleverness.
We’ve learned how to read words and write stories, subitizing, and explore the world around us. More importantly, we’ve learned how to be good friends, how to share, take turns, and help each other. I’m so proud of each and every one of you.
Even though you’ll be moving on to KG2, you’ll always be part of our Peacock family. I’ll never forget your smiles, your giggles, and all the special moments we’ve shared together. Keep being curious, keep being kind, and keep being you—because you are amazing. Now let’s celebrate everything you’ve achieved this year!
"Look How You’ve Grown!"
In August you were tiny, With shoes tied up so tight, You walked in with your grown-up, Holding hands just right.
We learned to write our letters, And how to count and share, We painted, danced, and played a lot— We learned to show we care.
Now look at you! You're ready, To start KG2 with pride, With courage in your little hearts, And teachers by your side.
So off you go, my Peacock Superstars, Go shine in all you do, Remember that I’m proud of you— And I believe in you too!
Warm wishes
Ms Hawes-Gatt
Sparrows KG 1
Sparrows Take Flight
For the KG1 Sparrows, with love from Ms Weller and Ms Rebecca
In a cozy little classroom where dreams took wing, Lived the Sparrows of KG1, ready for anything! With laughter and love, they learned every day, Exploring the world in their own special way. They danced in the colours of Holi so bright, A joyful colour run, pure delight! Then splashed through Songkran with giggles and cheer, A water fight memory that we’ll all hold dear. At Wild Paint House, they painted the air, Throwing bold colours without a single care. Expressions flew free, no brushes in hand— Just messy little artists taking a stand. They wandered through Dubai's stories of old, In history trips, so brave and bold.
Learning of camels, pearls, and desert days, Eyes wide with wonder, minds set ablaze. Reading was tricky, writing was tough, Numbers were puzzling, sometimes rough. But these Sparrows, oh how they tried! With reflection, inquiry, and courage as guide. They asked and they pondered, they shared what they knew, Their questions were curious, their answers were true. They learned and they grew with each passing week, Their voices grew strong, their thoughts unique. They made new friends with smiles so wide, And waved to old ones with love and pride. Their hearts full of kindness, their laughter so loud, The Sparrows have made their teachers so proud. Fun, loving, caring, and oh-so-bright, Creative minds shining day and night. With glue on their fingers and glitter in hair, They left little pieces of joy everywhere. As this chapter closes, we just want to say— You’ve made magic in every single way.
Ms. Weller and Ms. Rebecca will miss you so, Our sweet Sparrows, it’s time to go.
But fly on with wonder, with love in your song, The skies are wide, and you all belong. Wherever you go, whatever you do, Know that your teachers are so proud of you.
Starlings KG 1
What a fantastic year it’s been in Starlings! From the very first day, our curious and kind little learners have filled the classroom with laughter, creativity, and a real love for learning. Whether we were exploring the wonders of phonics, counting with excitement, getting messy with paint, or discovering the joys of outdoor play, the Starlings always approached each day with enthusiasm and big smiles.
We’ve seen friendships bloom, confidence grow, and so many wonderful “wow” moments along the way. From Winter Concert performances to nature walks, from building the tallest towers to sharing the sweetest stories—every moment has been special.
We are so proud of each and every one of our Starlings for their hard work, kindness, and sparkle. What a joy it’s been watching you spread your wings this year—ready to soar into your next adventure!
Little Wings, Ready to Fly
In a nest of wonder, soft and bright, Our Starlings found their wings in flight. With laughter, learning, joy, and cheer, They made pure magic through the year.
Mikael’s smile lit up the day, While Adam led the games and play.
Faisal’s stories, bold and true,
Jinyan’s questions—always new.
Maryam painted skies so wide, Sohan explored with fearless pride.
Leonardo Jun , so full of grace, And Sherlock with his thoughtful pace.
Sofia danced through every rhyme, Danil built towers high with time.
Sara's kindness, soft and sweet, Sairah’s laughter—pure and neat.
Riana sang her sunny song, While Ali led us all along.
Nikita’s eyes were bright with dreams, Muse thought in gleams.
Saif discovered near and far, And Advay shone just like a star.
Together they’ve grown, together they’ve played, Through each new adventure, they laughed and they stayed—
A family of friends, so strong and so true...
Starlings, the sky is waiting for you.
Mrs Gray
KG 1 Year of Wonder at NLCS Dubai
At NLCS Dubai, our KG1 year has been full of magic, memories, and milestones. From Hoopoes, Starlings, Larks, and Sparrows, to Peacocks and Flamingoes, every child has grown in confidence, curiosity, and care.
We began our journey with a splash of color at Wild Paint House, throwing paint on walls, canvas—even bears! We became historians on the Hop Around Bus, learning about Dubai’s rich past during our “Who We Are” unit.
We celebrated the world around us with joy—Holi, Songkran, and Diwali brought us together as we explored heritage, celebrations, and what makes each of us unique. We talked about similarities, differences, and what it means to belong.
Through the unit “How We Express Ourselves,” we danced, painted, sang, and explored the arts. From workshops on movement and music to watching live performances, we found so many ways to share our feelings and ideas. Then we became brilliant scientists! We explored the wonders of the world with Fleming’s work on germs, Goodall’s studies of chimpanzees, and Najat Saliba’s fight against pollution. We even discussed the Lorax and how forces make things move. We observed, experimented, and let our natural curiosity shine!
Now we’re learning about transport and movement, designing travel creations and building our collaboration skills. We continue to grow into Inquirers, Thinkers, Communicators, and Caring friends every day.
From the excitement of World Book Day’s runway parade to weekly storytime with Mrs Bowden, stories have filled our hearts and imaginations.
With a dream team of teachers and TAs—
Ms Baptiste & Ms Angela, Mrs Gray & Ms Charmaine, Mrs Mackintosh & Ms Margie, Ms Weller & Ms Rebecca, Ms Hammond & Ms Ivy, Ms Haws-Gatte & Ms Allen, Ms Louella, Ms Cherry, and Ms Maria—
We’ve laughed, learned, and leapt forward together. Ms Allen with us too, so calm and kind, All teachers and adults bursting with pride, combined! What a wonderful year it’s been in KG1!
Dear Dolphin Class,
From the very start, you’ve shown wonderful skills of curiosity, fun, and exploration- just like real dolphins! Whether it was asking a million questions (sometimes before snack time) or turning every corner of the classroom into an adventure, you’ve been incredible learners.
We began our journey with our “Who We Are” unit, where we discovered that taking risks can help us learn more about ourselves. We practiced big life skills like tying our shoelaces, doing our zips and mastering those tricky buttons. We also had lots of fun learning about emotions through emojis. Who knew little yellow faces could teach us so much?
Next, we dived into “Sharing the Planet,” where we explored animals and their habitats. Our trip to Dubai Safari was unforgettable. You created amazing habitats, showing how much you care for animals, nature, and our beautiful world.
Then came “How We Express Ourselves,” where we became communication experts! You used words, faces, gestures, and even dance moves to share your feelings and understand others. It was heartwarming to see you listen to others and respond with kindness and empathy.
One magical moment this year was the Founders’ Play, where you told the story of NLCS throughout time. You sang your hearts out and shone like stars on the stage. The Head Mistresses would truly be so proud of each and every one of you!
Every day, I watched you become more independent, more reflective, and more ready for Grade 1. You’ve been brave thinkers, caring friends, and confident explorers who love to learn.
Thank you Mahec, Almaha, Reem, Amelia, Harry B, Odhran, Zichuan, Ivan, Harry H, Matilda, Zakariya, Maksim, Wendi, David, Kabir, Mitch, Adrian, Nora, Marcus and Elias for making each day full of fun, laughter and moments to cherish. Keep asking questions, trying new things, and swimming forward on your learning journey. Grade 1 is lucky to have you!
Keep swimming forward, keep smiling, and remember — Dolphins make waves wherever they go!
With love and dolphin-sized hugs, Mrs Pathak

Turtles
The Turtles’ Tale
In the ocean blue, not far away, Twenty Turtles came to play. In a classroom full of joy and cheer, They learned and grew throughout the year.
We read about feelings, from happy to sad, Ruby had worries that made her feel bad. Ravi would roar when things went all wrong, While Meesha found friends by being strong.
The Jolly Postman brought letters to share, Delivering stories from here and there. And in The Most Important Animal of All, We learned every creature, big or small, Has a role to play in nature’s song, Each one needed, each one strong.
In Maths we counted, added, and more, Subtracted, sorted, and began to explore. With numbers, patterns, and problems to crack, There was no challenge we’d ever hold back!
We learned to think, talk, and play, Using kind words along the way. Our friendships grew strong, and so did we, Together we built our community.
Then came trips that filled us with glee, At the Safari Park, with animals to see. The Chocolate Factory was full of delight, And Old Dubai showed history in sight.
With Miss Taylor, Miss Rameeza, and Miss Maryln too, We learned so much, there’s nothing we couldn’t do. Now it’s time to swim to Grade 1, With hearts full of hope, the journey’s just begun!
We'll miss our ocean, our Turtle crew, But adventures await, skies so blue. So off we go with pride and cheer, For all we've done this wonderful year.
I will really miss all of the Turtles, we have had such a fantastic year!

Whales KG 2
The Ballad of the Whales of KG2
In a classroom bright where young hearts grew, Lived a magical pod, the Whales of KG2. With laughter and kindness, from August they came, Each little Whale with a shining name.
Aadi asked questions with wonder so wide, Isabelle’s warmth was a glowing guide. George brought giggles, Nikki brought cheer, Yiyang’s bright thoughts were always near.
Annie would sparkle with each sweet grin, Yasha's bold stories would always begin. Kourosh the brave, with dreams in his eye, And Aaryan’s ideas could float to the sky.
Bohr was a thinker, deep and true, While Elisabeth’s kindness just blossomed and grew. Luka imagined with wild delight, And Nader and Zara shone ever so bright.
Alina's hugs were cozy and warm, Majid’s smile was a magical charm. Allie would paint the sky in her play, And Leo would brighten the darkest day.
Aisha and Sully, with hearts full of gold, Made every day joyful, brave, and bold.
They journeyed afar on wonderful trips, To Heritage Village and the Zoo full of skips. They acted in plays on Founders Day, And danced through the months in their own special way.
They showcased talents with pride and flair, In an exhibition beyond compare. But Fridays, oh Fridays, were truly the best, For Whaley went home as an honored guest!
They sang with glee that famous tune, “It’s Friday again!” in the classroom. With Whaley in tow and hearts full of cheer, They made magic memories all through the year.
So here’s to the Whales, so bright and true, Amazing, kind, and loving too. A tale of joy, of growth, and play, Forever remembered, come what may.
And though this year must reach its end, The story of the Whales will never bend. For in each heart, their song will stay, A fairytale that won't fade away.
Mrs Marpara
KG2's Founders Day Play
The KG2 children worked so hard to put on an amazing show for their parents all about the founding of NLCS. Parents were taken on a journey through time and space to learn about the different eras of NLCS and our founding school in London. The children sang, danced, acted and made us laugh and smile throughout!
Francis Mary Buss began it all, back in eighteen-fifty,
Opening doors to learning wide, and dreams both bold and nifty.
Unfolding time, the children flew through eras long gone past, NLCS shining through the years, a legacy to last.
Dancing through the decades bright – Macarena, Twist, and more, Each step a joyful echo of the ones who came before.
Remembering the songs once sung – with "Tipperary" pride, Sweet voices rose with "Bonnie" too, as time turned like the tide.
Daffodils in golden bloom, a tribute pure and true,
A gift to Francis Mary Buss, from hearts both old and new.
Years of growth and global reach – from London’s cherished start,
Played out in joy by little ones, with wonder in their heart.
Leaping into time machines, with laughter and delight, Around the world their stories span – Jeju to Dubai's light.
Young minds in Ho Chi Minh and Singapore now say: “Thank you for the dreams you built – Happy Founders Day!”
Camels Grade
1
Camels, what a year it has been! I would like to explore how we have encompassed the learner profiles across the year. For your first steps into the Camel’s class, you demonstrated your ability to be risk takers. You made the journey up the stairs and for some it was daunting and nerve-racking, but you embraced the challenge and became the Grade One Camels. When focusing on healthy choices, you were balanced.
Knowing that a few sweets treats were acceptable but a balanced diet is crucial to a healthy life. You even created your own healthy snack for your parents at the exhibition and your own fruit and vegetable story. Next you were principled. Knowing that the school was not as sustainable as it could be, you created a speech to present to Mr Locke to reduce the laminating in school. Think of the Leachate! Throughout the sustainability unit you were knowledgeable about different materials and explored polymers and created your own plastics by using your scientific knowledge. Each maths lesson you were thinkers when solving a range of problem-solving activity. No challenge was too big and you all were thinkers in solving complex questions in many different ways, especially when we looked at the Trops and Bops! Transporting into the past, you learned a different way of communicating and that children were to be ‘seen and not heard’.
Being Victorians was certainly a trickier way to communicate, and we all appreciated when we returned back to 2025. You were open minded when discussing if Joe should be the Prime Minister and even debated both sides. By being open minded you could really understand the pressure of creating new laws. Understanding the pressure of being a leader, you could empathise with Joe and see a different perspective. The circus created inquirers in the class as you explored different forces and investigated the best circus activity to entertain different grades. Throughout the year, I have seen you all be caring when you have supported each other in learning, cared for our environment and cared about your own progression in learning.
Now we reach the end of the year it is time to be reflective and prepare to be a risk taker again. You have been a fabulous Camel Class and I have enjoyed every moment of it.

Sandcats
Grade 1
To my wonderful Sandcats,
I could fill a book with my praise and adoration for you all, but I’ll keep it brief(ish). When I started here at NLCS Dubai, I felt nervous, excited, and a little apprehensive. I wonder if you felt the same way when you moved up to Grade One? But as soon as I met you, all of those worries melted away — it became clear very quickly that you were all an absolute bundle of joy.
What a wonderful year we’ve had together — from tug-of-war battles in the playground to bouncing on trampolines at the Adventure Park. I’ve watched you compete in the STEM Boat Race, Sports Day, and the Swimming Gala, always cheering each other on and showing such kindness. You’re a class that looks out for one another on the playground, saves seats at lunch, and can’t get through a lesson without a case of the giggles.
You have made me so proud, I could burst! Watching you perform your poem for Mr Locke on sustainability, create your Changemaker booklets, and end the year with Stella the Starfish are moments I’ll never forget. As my first class at NLCS Dubai, you hold a very special place in my heart.
You’ve been fantastic role models for the younger years in First School, and now it’s time to join the big kids in Lower School! As you move on, remember to always be kind, ask lots of questions, use your wonderful manners, and look out for each other.
A huge thank you as well to your lovely parents — you’ve been so supportive, and I hope we’ll stay in touch! Have a fantastic summer, you super bunch. I can’t wait to see how you’ve grown, and wave at you in the corridors next year!
With love, Ms Khan and Ms Bernadette

Grade 1 Exploring Healthy Choices
Grade One kicked off the year with an exciting exhibition centered on the theme of healthy choices. Throughout this unit, our young learners delved into the concept of health through various engaging activities, ultimately demonstrating their newfound knowledge with confidence and purpose.
In a creative endeavor, the students utilised their language skills to craft their own stories inspired by The Couch Potato by Jory John and Pete Oswald. Each student developed unique characters, giving life to a delightful assortment of fruits and vegetables, from the Silly Strawberry to the Curious Kiwi. During the exhibition, Grade One proudly shared their published stories with parents, inviting reflection and discussion on the journeys of their imaginative characters.
Our budding scientists engaged in a series of hands-on experiments to explore the impact of different nutrients. They analysed fat content in various foods and illustrated how carbohydrates serve as a vital source of energy. The excitement in the air was palpable as they presented their experiments to parents, with everything from balloons soaring across the room to eggs fizzing in cola. The children's ability to articulate their scientific findings showcased their impressive understanding.
In addition, Grade One investigated the effects of nutrients on the digestive system. Through an interactive activity, they discovered how stomach acid interacts with food and how nutrients enter the body. This experiential learning deepened their comprehension of the vital role nutrition plays in our health. The Physical Education department generously provided exercise equipment, allowing parents and children to explore the importance of physical activity in maintaining a balanced lifestyle.
A highlight of the exhibition was the creation of healthy smoothie bowls, which students prepared for their parents. They thoughtfully selected ingredients and discussed the benefits of each fruit, leveraging data collected in their math lessons. Parents were delighted to taste these nutritious creations, enjoying a healthy snack made by their children.
The exhibition was a remarkable celebration of the scientific knowledge and creativity of our Grade One students, showcasing their hard work and enthusiasm for healthy living.

HEAD OF FIRST SCHOOL
Our Pre-KG classes, so full of cheer, Have grown in wonder through the year. From little hands that first held pens, To writing names again and again!
Your exhibition was such a delight, Community roles brought to life just right. Firefighters bold, and dentists, too, Receptionists smiling, you knew what to do. Artists painting dreams up to the sky, You tried each role with heads held high.
And oh what joy, what giggles, what whoo!
When we all adventured on our trip to WooHoo!
Sliding, climbing, wide-eyed glee, So many moments of Jubilee!
Early Years, you all sang with pride, At the Winter Concert, your smiles so wide. Each class stepped up and despite your young age, It was a delight for us all, watching you on stage.
For KG1, there was a brand-new thrill, A competition which took courage and skill. You stood with confidence in the PAC, Eager to take part in The Spelling Bee, Those taking part, spelling loud and clear. The audience with their House to cheer.
Into KG2, with some memorable trips, Filled with excitement at each little glimpse. We journeyed back through time and sand, On the Heritage Express, hand in hand. You listened, learned, and looked around, As stories of old Dubai were found.
Then off we went to Dubai Safari Park, Where wild roars echoed and left their mark!
Gorillas lounged and elephants strode, Lions lazed in regal mode.
Gazelles dashed past in graceful play, So many animals we saw that day, A day of adventure, learning, and cheer, The wild came alive with us all near!
You graced the stage on Founder's Day, With yellow daffodils on proud display, In honour of Frances Mary Buss,
I wonder what she’d make of all our fuss? You danced through time so joyfully, Saying your lines so thoughtfully. Each costume took us to a different place Including neon colours and collars and lace. With songs from eras long gone by, Voices strong and heads held high.
In our Grade 1 classrooms, science came alive, With curious minds that love to dive Into learning, chemists you became, Mixing and making in the discovery game, Creating plastic and paper with great delight, You measured and stirred ‘til it turned out right.
In your unit work, you stepped through time to days of old, Where desks were in rows and strict rules took hold.
No questions asked by you, no voices heard, Just learning by rote, word for word. No smiling teachers, no chatting allowed, But you got into role and made us proud.
Then came our circus day, your smiles so bright, A day of wonder and pure delight, You explored how magnets attract and repel, And tested push and pull forces so well. With ping pong balls flying through the air, You proved that science is everywhere!
In every Grade, you’ve reached new heights, Your inquiry skills have taken flight: From songs and stories to science and play, You have made the most of every day.
With curious minds and hearts so true, We are so proud of all the things you do. This year may end, but one thing’s clear, You are all ready to soar into next year!

Once a North Londoner... Message
Once a North Londoner Another year passes, For me that’s four, Though it feels like mere moments, Since I first passed through our door.
And this year, Just like those gone before, Far too many a highlight, To recall and explore.
Once again, It’s a poem from me, My thoughts and musings, I promise. No chat GPT.
I’ve chosen to look back, On our Founders, our own. The original Dubai students, We call them Homegrown.
Our very own Pioneers, The original pre-KG, Our Dubai Founders, Forgers of our history.
Buss Bryant Drummond McCabe, Just to name a few, On the shoulders of these Giants, Our first Founders have come through.
8 years completed, Here At NLCS Dubai, PreKG to Grade 5, In the blink of an eye.
For this year’s celebrations, They took to the stage, To share a memory, From their own history page.
Vivid memories of Those distant days, The bright colours of Holi, Perforate their Pre KG haze.
They spoke of class parties, And of the friendships they’d made, The teachers who’d led them, Whose support never did fade.
But It was Amir Sam who Captured the moment for me, His summary of his 8 years, One. Big. Family.
So to our Founding Fourteen, I doff my cap, For ‘tis you that have placed us, On the North London map.
For if those first Headmistresses Could see you now, They’d stand, applaud, Ask you to take a bow.
But a word of advice, Before you fly the junior nest, Senior school awaits you, You’re all ready for the test.
Take all that you’ve learnt, And leave nothing behind, Alongside your peers, Be caring and kind.
And finally, a note to all our students: Continue to strive to be your best, 8 years or 8 days, once a North Londoner Always a…
You know the rest.

PYP COORDINATOR
"It is the journey, not the destination."
This simple phrase encapsulates everything that makes the IB learner profile so powerful. At its core, the Primary Years Programme (PYP) is not about rote knowledge or test scores, it’s about cultivating curiosity, encouraging exploration, and developing well-rounded, open-minded individuals. At NLCS Dubai, this philosophy is alive and thriving, from our youngest learners in Pre-KG all the way through to our Grade 5 students.
This year, I wanted to visually capture the rich, interconnected experience of being an IB learner. Each transdisciplinary theme has been imagined as a vibrant island, a destination full of discovery, creativity, and “wow” moments. On each visit, students uncover new ideas, make connections, and challenge their thinking. These islands represent not just units of inquiry, but key moments in the journey of becoming a thinker, communicator, and risk-taker.
Every grade has taken a unique path to and through these islands. Their learning has grown deeper with each stop, and seeing this process unfold day by day is truly one of the greatest joys of teaching.
To explore each grade’s journey through the PYP this year, scan the QR code below. You’ll discover how our students engaged with the big ideas, asked meaningful questions, and brought their learning to life in creative, unexpected ways.
It has been an extraordinary year of growth, imagination, and achievement. I can’t wait to see how we continue to inspire and challenge our learners in the years to come.

Desert Ants
Grade 2
The Desert Ants began to crawl, Through classroom walls and down the hall, With minds so bright and hearts so wide, They learned, they laughed, they marched with pride.
In Term 1 came Banksy and new Maths, Our exhibition carved creative paths. Then settlements rose from careful plans, Exploring the UAE’s dunes and sands.
Term 2 told tales of family trees, Of culture, food, and memories. Podcasts aired with voices clear, Sharing traditions we hold dear.
But, what's this? A memory supreme — We lived a Grade 2 camping dream! We surfed and sailed the Gulf’s blue sea, Then slept at school (quite happily!). Sleeping bags, snacks, and cheer, A milestone moment of our year.
Bridges were built with beams and glue, From paper to K'NEX, strong and true. We read The Iron Man, bold and grand, And tracked strange sightings across the land…
Maths brought angles, remainders, lines, Perimeters measured on bridge designs. We spotted shapes in every space, With laughter lighting up the place.
But what I’ll miss the most each day, Aren’t just the lessons, work, or play — It’s laughter shared, the jokes, the cheer, The little things that filled our year.
So off you go, bold little crew, Brave, kind, and curious too. Your journey’s just beginning, after all — And I’ll be right here, just down the hall.

Salamanders Grade 2
A Time to Remember
What an incredible year it’s been in the Salamanders class. From day one, it was clear that this group was something special—curious thinkers, kind-hearted friends, bold creators, and joyful learners.
We started the year by learning about each other’s cultures, and the class embraced this with openness and pride. Ayla, ever full of interesting facts, often turned our conversations into spontaneous quizzes. Aarya, with her book always in hand, brought thoughtful insights into every discussion. Leo, our Student Council member, kept the energy high—full of ideas, always ready to share, and never short on words!
Our creative projects took off with vibrant graffiti and painted canvases, where Sienna and Kabir truly shone—turning every surface into a work of art. Nearby, Ela and Sofia were often found chatting and laughing, adding a spark of energy to every project, their friendship bright and constant. Masha, always warm and chatty, added her own cheer wherever she went.
In our Inquiries, we explored water—its importance, its scarcity, and how we can protect it. The class created thoughtful podcasts around this topic, and Sid, with his flair for storytelling, helped bring the scripts to life. Shoji added moments of humor that made the whole process even more enjoyable, while Anel, with her strong sense of integrity, reminded everyone to stay on task and think deeply about the messages we were sharing.
We built bridges—not just in engineering, but in friendship too. The bridge-building project was a big highlight, and it was amazing to watch how every Salamander found a role. Alina and Vaarin tackled the measurements and calculations like true mathematicians. Bo, with his quiet determination, was always ready to try again if something didn’t work.
When it came to sports, Finley, Gugu, and Silas couldn’t be missed—whether it was Sports Day or a lunchtime challenge, they gave it their all, always with a competitive spirit and a team mindset. And just as they led us on the field, Kyra quietly led in friendship, making sure everyone was included, always with a kind word or smile.
We also looked ahead, dreaming about the future and the jobs we might one day have. Whether someone wanted to work with animals like Alexandra, who taught us about everything from puppies to elephants, or just imagined doing something that made people smile, like Mark, whose jokes never failed to brighten the day.
And then came our class assembly: Crossing Over to Grade 3. What a performance! Everyone stepped up to bring our version of The Three Billy Goats Gruff to life, with messages of growth, courage, and moving on. Ayaan, usually quiet, shone brightly with his close friends during the performance, and Alana, who treasures her playtime, brought joy and natural stage presence. Noah, ever balanced and thoughtful, helped hold it all together with calm confidence.
As I look back, what strikes me most is the way this group took care of each other. They explored ideas with courage, created beauty in unexpected ways, and lifted each other up—day after day.
To my wonderful Salamanders: You’ve grown in ways you might not even realize yet. You’ve built more than just bridges and projects—you’ve built relationships! And as you cross over into Grade 3, I hope you carry that same spark of curiosity, kindness, and creativity with you.
You’ve made me proud every single day.
With love, Ms Dharsey
Tortoises
Grade 2
Sometimes, when faced with a blank page, it can be tricky to know where to begin. But with the Tortoises Class of 2024–25, inspiration flows as easily as water!
On Thursday 13th February, the Tortoises took to the stage for their class assembly and shone like the stars they are. They brought to life a fun and lively daytime TV show to explore how essential water is to life—an idea that sparked so much joy and creativity in the room. The class threw themselves into it, coming up with brilliant ideas, catchy lines, and, of course, some very memorable dance moves to go along with their rendition of the water cycle song.
But the true showstopper? Their heartfelt performance of A Sky Full of Clouds—their own version of Coldplay’s A Sky Full of Stars. Having recently seen Coldplay live in Abu Dhabi, many of the children were keen to end with a tribute. Together, we rewrote the lyrics to match our theme, and magic happened.
To recreate that concert atmosphere, the children were surprised with glow stick wristbands to wear during their performance. What they didn’t know was that their parents were also in on the secret and would be waving glow sticks too! As the first verse began, the room fell silent—every child sang with such sincerity, it was truly moving. Then came the chorus and the room lit up—arms waving, smiles beaming, and the children’s faces lighting up even more as they spotted their parents joining in.
The contrast between the gentle second verse and the energetic, glowing finale—complete with a group chant of “1, 2, 3, 4!”—was a moment to remember. It was pure joy and a perfect example of what makes this class so special: creativity, community, and the courage to shine.

Grade 2 Memories
Hello, I am Polina. I am proud to be a part of North London Collegiate School, Grade 2 Hedgehogs and today I am going to present my most memorable moment in Grade 2. It was the House Music mini party and a celebration for the winners. It was so fun and exciting. The DJ (Sonny) put on some really cool music. Everyone’s dancing was really good. I could feel the PAC shake a bit since a lot of people were jumping. I hope something like this happens in future grades! Polina G2 Hedgehogs
In our settlements unit we played a settlements game made by Mr Roberts. There were teams like mountain, river, forest etc. I was in the team mountain. The objective of the game was to get the most resources like stone, wood, water, food and fish. We could trade among ourselves and if we had enough resources we could buy stuff from Mr Roberts. There were also invasions and settlement disasters! My team had an early lead because we looked at the other groups and made a map of their resources so we could decide what to do. But we got invaded a lot! However, WE STILL WON! Athena G2 Desert Ants
My most memorable moment in Grade 2 was watching the PAC light up with a rainbow of glow sticks while we sang our version of "A Sky Full of Stars". Ms James surprised us with 200 glow sticks! Amay G2 Tortoises
My best day in Grade 2 was when we had our first residential. It was amazing. We went to a beach; it was called DOSC. When we arrived, we had a snack. Not long after, my first activity was splashing my feet in the water. I could hear the waves crashing into the shore. Next, we went to draw. It was warm and relaxing. After a while, we ate lunch. For lunch, I ate pizza and french fries. It was delicious. Finally, the most exciting thing was sailing. We hopped on the boat with four people. I could smell the sea water when we were sailing on the sea water. When we were in the middle of the ocean, some people jumped in the sea. I did not. In the distance was the shore. We got off there and then came back to school. After one hour, we ate dinner and set up our tents. It was very nice. I slept with Avantika in my tent. Amayra G2 Agamas
In Grade 2, my favourite day was when we as a whole class went on a sleepover at school. First, we went sailing. It was fun swimming in the sea. Then, on the way back to school, I was so tired that I just fell asleep. Next, we went to toast marshmallows on a campfire. We went to sleep but everyone woke up at 2 AM! On Friday morning, we came back home! Pavel G2 Hedgehogs
My favourite memory of Grade 2 is an ECA. Netball! I really liked it when we played matches because we got to play against other teams! I learned about teamwork and concentration. We cheered each other on even if we were losing. My favourite position is WA (wing attack) or centre, but I still learnt that every position is important. In term 3 there wasn't netball sadly. So, I am looking forward to next year for more netball ECA! Jiah G2 Hedgehogs
There were a lot of interesting events at school. For me it was really difficult to choose the best one. But I would like to write about our residential. It was really fun. I enjoyed every moment, but I was a bit upset and scared when it was time to go to bed. It was the first time that I did not sleep at home without my parents. It was challenging for me, but my friends and my teacher Mrs Murphy helped me to feel better. And I understood that with a such teameverything is possible. Dmitrii G2 Geckos
My highlight of the year was when I went on the residential trip because I had lots of fun on the beach. First, I swam in the ocean like a dolphin, it was fun but... the sand went in my mouth. Next, we got on a small, white boat for a ride and I jumped into the deep, blue ocean with a big splash! I also made my teacher jump in the ocean with me! It was the best day ever and I would definitely do it again. Avantika G2 Agamas
Cuckoos Grade 3
We laughed and played every day. The Cuckoos were the best, hooray! We learned a lot, it's true. Our friends helped pull us through.
Our teacher changed; it was a swap. Our new teacher was still top-notch. They helped us, and we did so well. We kept on going, can't you tell?
We hope we all do super stuff. We hope we shine real bright, that's enough! With happy hearts and dreams so grand, Being kind is our command.
So when you see us flying free, Remember all our fun, you see! Our time together was quick and cool. The best memories of our school!

Herons
Grade 3
In a year filled with exploration, empathy, and unshakable enthusiasm, the Herons class have proven themselves to be a group of learners as vibrant and dynamic as the world they’re discovering.
One of the standout moments came during their unforgettable residential trip to Ras Al Khaimah. From kayaking through winding mangroves to encountering fascinating wildlife and experiencing the thrill of sleeping away from home, the Herons embraced every challenge with curiosity and courage. Laughter echoed through campfires and early morning walks past ostriches and horses, as friendships deepened and independence blossomed.
Back in the classroom, the Herons tackled a series of compelling inquiries with that same spark. They journeyed deep beneath the Earth's surface to understand tectonic plates and geological forces, they soared through systems of the body, examining how every breath and heartbeat connects us. Their literary explorations, from ‘The Firework Maker’s Daughter’ to ‘The Matchbox Diary’, opened doors to diverse cultures, histories, and the enduring strength of the human spirit.
Perhaps most powerfully, they turned their learning outward. Their TED Talks, developed with thought, humour, and courage, were not only informative but deeply inspiring. Through unpacking ecological issues concerning how best to share our planet, they spoke with the passion of true changemakers. The immersive Ellis Island drama day further deepened their empathy, as they stepped into the shoes of migrants from the past, exploring themes of belonging and resilience.
This year, the Herons showed immense heart. They welcomed new classmates with warmth, navigated change with great spirit, and carried themselves with energy that never waned. Their commitment to friendship and learning made our classroom a joyful, purposeful place to be.
To the Herons class of 2025: never lose that spark. Stay bold, stay curious, and keep using your voice to shape a better world.

Kingfishers Grade 3
What a wonderful year it has been with the Kingfishers! This class has truly been something special – a brilliant group of individuals who have come together to create a real sense of unity and togetherness. From the very first day, it was clear that this class was full of heart, humour, and an unshakable team spirit.
One of the standout moments this year was winning the Sports Day Cup – not because of individual talent, but because the Kingfishers pulled together and supported each other every step of the way. That victory was a perfect reflection of who they are: a team in every sense of the word.
Throughout the year, the Kingfishers have consistently shown the 3Cs – care, courtesy, and consideration – both in and out of the classroom. Whether helping a friend, supporting a classmate, or welcoming visitors, they’ve always led with kindness and respect.
A special shoutout goes to their enthusiastic adoption of Gary the Gibbon and his family. What began as a small classroom mascot quickly became a big part of our Kingfisher culture, showing the class’s wonderful sense of humour and inclusivity.
Their dedication to learning has never wavered. Every subject has been tackled with energy, focus, and a desire to improve. I’ve loved watching them embrace challenges, ask questions, and celebrate their successes together.
It’s been an absolute joy being their teacher. They’ve laughed at my silly jokes (most of the time!) and made every day in the classroom a happy one. I couldn’t be more proud of how far they’ve come – as learners, as teammates, and as kind, respectful young people.
Kingfishers, you’ve been amazing. I’ll miss you dearly – keep flying high!

Grade 3 Ellis Island Drama Day
As part of our first Unit in Grade 3, Where We Are in Place and Time, students got to pretend they were people migrating to America from other countries around the world. In our Unit of Inquiry lessons, we created our characters and had a new name, job, family, and we were even told how much money we had to bring with us (if any).
On the day, we dressed up as the person we had created, and we were all brought to the PAC. The Grade 3 teachers were frightening officers who interviewed us and determined if we would pass and be allowed into the country. Our teaching assistants were the medical officers who carried out examinations to check our health. If you passed your medical test, it was a big advantage. Those who really travelled to Ellis Island would have to have their eyes checked by doctors who lifted their eyelids with a metal button hook! Thankfully, that did not happen to us this time.
Luckily, most of us passed the interrogation and were allowed to enter America to begin a new life in the place that people during this time called the ‘Land of Dreams’. If you didn’t pass, you were sent to quarantine or detention and sent back home, which was very upsetting for the people who had made this difficult and expensive journey.
This was a great experience for all the Grade 3 students, as we got to really understand how people migrating really felt.
It was a great day and one we will remember.

Arabian Horses
Grade 4
Dear Arabian Horses,
What a fantastic year we’ve had together!
Right from the start, we quickly got to know each other, and I soon realised this was not an ordinary class—but one that I had been very lucky to inherit. You are a class that has made me laugh every single day, and I have genuinely loved walking into our room each morning, knowing I’d get to spend the day with such creative, kind and caring students.
One of the things that has stood out most this year is the way you have always treated each other with kindness and respect. You’ve looked out for one another, supported each other through challenges and celebrated each other’s successes. Even when life brought small disagreements—as it naturally does—you showed maturity in how you handled them. You listened, reflected, and moved forward together, growing not just as learners but as people. That sense of community and empathy is something truly special.
From our fierce number sense battles in Maths to the 1,000 (maybe more!) reminders to write in full sentences with a subject and a verb—you’ve shown resilience, laughter and a love for learning every single day.
And of course, I’ll never forget the daily register fun and reminders that my car is still in the car park—knowing full well that you would always make me look out of the window to check!
Our time in Wadi Shawka, camping in teepees under the stars, created more amazing memories. Your flawless performance in Oliver with a Twist and our proud Victorian-themed assembly showed just how creative and confident you’ve become.
We’ve built strong bonds this year—ones that I will always treasure. I care deeply about each of you, and I hope you know how proud you should be of all you’ve achieved. Keep galloping forward with curiosity, courage, and kindness as you ride into Grade 5. I’ll be cheering you on every step of the way.
With pride, a big smile and a huge GOOD LUCK, I wish you all the very best.
Thank you for everything. Mr Beasant

Oryx Grade 4
Dear Oryx Class, 2024-25,
What a fantastic year it has been. It has been a pleasure to be your teacher this year and see you embrace the concept of, ‘Progress not Perfection,’ that we chose in Week 1 for our wellbeing focus, and have returned to regularly throughout the year. I know that at times this has not always been easy, that there were days where you did not see the progress, or were so focused on the outcome, that perfectionism snuck in again. However, I hope that if you look back now you can see how far you have come, that you did make progress, you did succeed, and that perfection is an unachievable ideal, we do not need to chase.
I am proud of the ways you have shown that you are both caring and principled this year. You have welcomed new class members, you have looked out for one another, and you have done what is right. Most importantly, you have done this through collaboration with your peers and teachers. With this collaboration and your constantly developing communication skills you have made the Oryx class a positive, welcoming, inclusive place to be.
This year you have been fantastic Inquirers – science, wellbeing, the environment, space and beyond – each new Unit of Inquiry you began you did so with eagerness, engagement and energy. You all showed your incredible attitude to learning, using your thinking and research skills to increase your own knowledge, your communication and social skills to share this knowledge and your self-management skills to keep yourself on track and on task.
Oryx Class of 2024-25, I want you to know that I see you all as strong, capable, hard-working individuals who can achieve great things. Give yourselves time and patience and keep going.
Thank you for a year that was filled with hard-work, fun and laughter.
Best wishes, Jon Mounsey
Grade 4 Oliver with a Twist!
I felt really proud of myself and my grade because we put a lot of effort into this play, and this was definitely the highlight of this year. The whole of grade 4 felt so happy to be able to present this play to our parents.
To become my character (Nancy), I projected my voice and made it loud and clear so that the people at the back could hear. I also made sure that I did not speak too fast and spoke with confidence. I used my facial expressions to show what emotions my character was experiencing. With my body language, I engaged with the audience and made what I was doing clear.
The characters in Oliver with a Twist teach us that, no matter how hard the situation, we should always be resilient and never give up. It also shows us that we should never dislike or make fun of a person just because they have less than you.
The costumes, props, and set design help tell the story because it really sets the scene and gives you a better understanding of what is happening.
I learnt that I really like working together with my class and grade to perform plays and I would like to do many more performances in the future.

Eagles
Grade 5
What an incredible year it has been for the Eagles.
A year of firsts. A year of friendships. A year where challenges became opportunities, and where each of us grew not only in what we learned, but in who we are becoming.
Our Eagles soared higher than ever—being super engineers, winning the STEM week boat competition, performing on stage in our assembly demonstrating beautiful singing and amazing acting, leading in the classroom, and stepping up with courage and creativity. From the first day of school to the last, we’ve seen the power of persistence, teamwork, and a positive mindset.
We celebrated new friendships, embraced differences, and supported each other through every adventure, big or small. Whether it was during PYPX, a house event, a sports tournament, we saw what it means to be learners, leaders, and kind, global citizens.
As we turn the page and prepare for new adventures in Senior School, may we carry forward the confidence, curiosity, and kindness that defined this year. The sky is not the limit—it’s just the beginning.
Thank you for making this year unforgettable.
Fly high, Haliaeetus leucocephalus.

Falcons
Grade 5
What an unforgettable year it has been for the Grade 5 Falcons! From the moment we stepped into the classroom, this group of curious, creative, and courageous learners made each day a true adventure. Our journey through literature took us from the eerie moors of Macbeth to the stormy seas sailed by Odysseus, as we explored themes of power, destiny, and resilience.
One of our proudest achievements was the PYP Exhibition, where students took a deep dive into the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals. With passion and purpose, the Falcons led meaningful inquiries, took action, and showed how young minds can make a global impact.
Beyond the classroom, we stepped into UAE history at the Etihad Museum and challenged ourselves on our residential trip to Kalba, conquering high ropes, hiking trails, and bonding around campfires. These experiences taught us teamwork, bravery, and the value of pushing ourselves beyond our comfort zones.
The undisputed highlight of the year was our class assembly — a hilarious and thought-provoking performance featuring none other than Donald Trump, Batman, and a very opinionated duck. It was a moment that perfectly captured the Falcons’ unique blend of intellect, humour, and heart.
To the brilliant, bold, and occasionally bonkers Falcons — thank you for a year filled with laughter, learning, and unforgettable memories. Your energy, ideas, and spirit have made this year truly special. I am so proud of the people you are becoming and can’t wait to see all the amazing things you will go on to achieve.
Wishing you every success and happiness as you soar into the next chapter of your journey.
Once a Falcon, always a Falcon!

Hawks
Grade 5
To the Hawks,
As we enter the final weeks of the year, I have taken the time to reflect and reminisce on our amazing time together. Over the course of the year, I have been privileged to watch you grow and become young people who are ready for the challenges and experiences that lay ahead. Thank you for all the memories we have created together; I have outlined some of my favourites below and I hope you agree!
We began the year in 11th Century Scotland (metaphorically, of course), examining Macbeth. Through witches, ambition, and the occasional ghost, we explored what makes a good leader— and perhaps more importantly, what doesn’t. Our class assembly was another highlight for me; your acting and singing skills impressed me greatly – no objections! Following this, we travelled back in time to investigate Ancient Civilizations. It was amazing to see the creativity and passion you all showed on your dioramas for the mini-exhibition. I thoroughly enjoyed learning about Early Islamic civilization, the Mayans, Aztecs and the Tang Dynasty, to name a few.
I also cannot forget to mention our residential trip to Kalba; it was one of my favourite weeks of the year and I am certain you feel the same. Here, comfort zones were left far behind as we tackled zip-lining, kayaking, hiking, and the great outdoors. It was a week of bravery, laughter, and learning—often in the face of early mornings, little sleep and the terrifying idea of being without screens!
We ended the year with the PYP Exhibition, where you showed remarkable agency by exploring issues you cared deeply about. Your passion for the Sustainable Development Goals was evident throughout the process and I was blown away by the information you found and the action you took. The exhibition was a celebration of your entire Junior School life and demonstrated what true IB learners you have become.
Whether wrestling with Shakespearean tragedy, exploring exiled Greek heroes, embracing new challenges or pushing yourselves out of your comfort zone, you’ve approached every moment with a smile and a genuine eagerness to grow and learn. I have enjoyed our year together and can truly say I have been proud to be your teacher. It’s now time for a new chapter in your lives and for you to fly the nest; I know all of you will find success.
Thank you for everything, Mr Collier
Kestrels
Grade 5
Dear Kestrels,
What a year it has been! As I sit down to write this, I’m filled with pride, joy, and just a little bit of disbelief that our time together is coming to an end. Teaching you this year has been an absolute privilege. You have made me laugh, challenged me to think differently, and occasionally left me completely baffled with your Gen Alpha language! From the very beginning, you have impressed me with your enthusiasm, curiosity, and boldness. Our Leadership unit really set the tone for the year—seeing so many of you step up into leadership roles was inspiring. You took the time to understand what it means to lead with empathy and purpose, all while tackling the complex world of Macbeth. Who knew Shakespeare and eleven-year-olds could go so well together?
One of the real standouts this year was your mini-exhibition on Ancient Civilisations. The depth of your knowledge, the confident way you spoke to your audience, and those fabulous dioramas—it was a feast for the eyes and the mind! Your creativity didn't stop there; through our Persuasive Art unit, you explored your voice and vision, showing incredible talent. Your contributions to the installation art in the Junction were powerful, imaginative, and left a lasting impression on everyone who walked by.
And of course, the highlight of our year—the PYP Exhibition. What a triumph! You demonstrated maturity, independence, and passion. Your collaborative spirit, organisation, and deep thinking were nothing short of remarkable. But more than anything, you showed that you care—about your learning, about each other, and about making the world a better place. That, Kestrels, is what will stay with me the most.
As you fly off into your next big adventure—whether at NLCS or somewhere new—I wish each of you the very best. Keep asking questions, keep being kind, and keep using your voice for good. I will miss you all greatly… though I might enjoy a brief moment of peace and quiet (just for a little while!).
With all my best wishes, Miss Brisbane
Ospreys Grade 5
This year we grew in many ways, We learned to listen, share, and try to reach for goals and aim so high.
With courage sparked in each new phase. Our mini exhibition came with pride, With every project we had tried.
We stood with confidence and graceEach voice and story found its place.
International Day was full of cheer, With cultures shining bright and clear.
We shared our roots, our food, our song, And felt that we all do belong.
With buddy reading, side by side, The Leopards joined us for the ride. Through every book and every page, We built a bond beyond our age.
On residential, we found our stride, With courage growing deep inside. Through walks and climbs and stars so bright, We built a bond we couldn’t hide.
On Sports Day, under skies of blue, We ran and jumped and saw it through. We cheered for others, gave our all, And lifted those who took a fall.
With every challenge, big or small, We showed we’d rise and give our all. With perseverance, step by step, We reached new heights we won’t forget.
So, here’s to all that we have done, To friendships made, and memories spun.

Dear Ravens,
What an incredible journey we’ve had together this year! I want to take a moment to tell you just how proud I am of each and every one of you. It has been an absolute pleasure to be your teacher this year. Every day, you have brought a wonderful mix of curiosity, creativity, and determination into our classroom.
What has stood out the most to me is your humour, enthusiasm, politeness, and kindness. You’ve made me laugh, made me think, and made me feel proud to be part of such a thoughtful and respectful group. You’ve supported each other, welcomed challenges, and shown great maturity in both your learning and your friendships.
I want you to remember that all the wonderful qualities you’ve shown this year will serve you well as you take your next steps into Grade 6 and Senior School. Keep being kind. Keep asking questions. Keep smiling. And always, always believe in yourselves.
I know you are ready for the new adventures ahead, and I have no doubt you will continue to grow into the amazing young people you are becoming. Although we’ll be in different classrooms next year, I’ll always be cheering you on from afar.
Thank you for a fantastic year. You will be missed.
With warmest wishes, Mrs Simpson
Grade 5 Ancient Civilisations
In the first term of Grade 5, the Mini Exhibition was the main excitement. After weeks of work, research, and knowledge eagerly rushing into our brains, Ancient Civilizations became a memory to treasure for life. We each had to choose one ancient civilization to work on, and I chose the Early Islamic Civilization. Our first step in preparing for the exhibition was simple: research, research, and more research. Once the knowledge was firmly fixed in our minds, we had to create a PowerPoint presentation based on everything we had learned. But with such a massive topic full of endless information, what exactly were we supposed to include? Thankfully, our wonderful teachers provided us with a clear and structured plan. We had to include the G.R.A.P.E.S. framework—Geography, Religion, Achievements, Politics, Economics, and Social Structure. With this structure, we were able to create an exceptional presentation.
Then came the hard part. Just keep in mind that most of this work was set as homework. In Grade 5, self-efficiency and independence are key. After a couple of weeks, we were told we had to make a diorama and a mask based on our chosen civilization. Everyone was so excited to get started. After crafting, building, gluing, and tying things together, we finally finished them—the dioramas and masks were complete at last. On the day of the exhibition, all the hard work we had done over six long weeks came together. It truly felt like one of the biggest achievements of the year.
Mahnoor Ali Grade 5 Eagles
When the Past Came Alive
There was a moment –when our classroom turned into the world. Pyramids rose from painted boxes, tiny cities bloomed with toothpick towers, and gods, long silent, whispered again through papier-mâché mouths.
We learned the weight of old stories, not from pages, but from the shape of a mask made gently in our hands –a Roman, a Mayan, someone who once breathed, now brought back in colour and clay.
Some of us lit up the room with glowing temples, others spoke like scholars, guiding guests through empires we had built from scratch. Together, we brought the past alive.
And now –the posters come down, the glue dries, the stories turn into legends. Grade Five folds itself into a memory.
We're almost gone from here, but not really. A piece of our hearts still lives in those dioramas, those masks, those moments when we felt the wonder of learning something real.

VICE PRINCIPAL PASTORAL CARE
As another exceptional year at NLCS Dubai draws to a close, there is a growing sense of anticipation as students and staff begin to look ahead to the summer break and all the adventures that July and August may bring.
This year, the spirit of House life has flourished more than ever. Sports Day, House Music, and House Debating have been real highlights, alongside the ever-popular House Basketball and House Song. These moments showcase exactly what NLCS stands for—students challenging themselves, building a strong sense of community, and being part of something greater than themselves.
As the academic year draws to an ends, many students are stepping into new House leadership roles. It has been a privilege to hear them speak so passionately about their Houses, their commitment to giving back, and their enthusiasm to help shape the future of our school through collaboration and service.
It has been wonderful to see so many parents actively involved in school life. From the House Dinners to the Community Iftar, National Day Celebrations and the Winter Fair. These events have brought our community together in such meaningful ways. Your support at sports fixtures, concerts, and arts performances has been greatly appreciated.
Founders Day was once again a very special celebration—an opportunity to unite the NLCS family of schools and reflect on our shared legacy. It was a moving occasion, featuring thoughtful speeches from Mr. Locke and Aarav on the theme of tradition and innovation, alongside inspiring readings and musical performances.
I look forward to welcoming everyone back in August, refreshed and ready for another exciting year of learning and growth.
Wishing you all a joyful and restful summer.
Warmest regards,

VICE PRINCIPAL DIRECTOR OF STUDIES
As you browse through this celebratory compendium you will no doubt be struck by the pride that we feel in our students and their endeavours. It represents the cornucopia of educative experiences and events which bind together the unique qualities of an NLCS education, embodied by our extraordinary students and supported by the wider school community.
Taking time to reflect on our accomplishments and to feel a sense of pride is important. Research on pride reveals that when we feel authentic pride we have engaged in self-evaluation, and understand that we have somehow improved ourselves. In doing so, we feel a greater sense of self-worth and are therefore more productive, more motivated and driven by a sense of success above duty.
There is, undoubtedly, much for our community to be proud of. As a school our scholarly ethos is a key driver in our collective achievements, and I am always impressed by the enthusiasm with which students embrace the pursuit of knowledge, championing their academic passions through our societies programme or attending our weekly Nicholson lectures. This pursuit of erudition is also shared by our remarkable staff whose commitment to their own personal development is second-to-none. This year alone staff have completed over 200 certified courses!
We are rightfully proud of our achievements, proud of our commitment to academic excellence, and proud of the shared passions that connect students and staff alike. As our journey continues, I am heartened by this and inspired by the refreshing vibrancy that our shared passions bring.

ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL DATA AND ASSESSMENT
This year has been nothing short of exceptional—a reflection of the extraordinary dedication within our community of students, staff, and families.
In my first year as Academic Assistant Principal, after two rewarding years as Head of Mathematics, I’ve had the privilege of seeing NLCS Dubai from a new perspective. What continues to stand out is the relentless, collective pursuit of excellence that defines our school.
Our students have approached their learning with passion and tenacity, excelling across all subjects with a thirst for knowledge that never fails to inspire. The curriculum has pushed and challenged them, and their achievements—whether in thoughtful essays, scientific explorations, or creative artistry—speak for themselves. Our dedicated staff have guided them every step of the way, and the unwavering support of our families has strengthened the journey.
Outside the classroom, the energy has been just as inspiring. From the fierce rivalries of house competitions to the thought-provoking Nicholson lectures, from sporting triumphs to the captivating performance of A Midsummer Night’s Dream, this has been a year filled with unforgettable moments. The Dubai Maths Super League showcased our global reach, while lively debates and musical recitals added even more depth and colour to our shared experience. The list of highlights is too long to capture fully, but each one reflects the spirit, talent, and individuality of our students.
Together, we have nurtured a community where scholarship and creativity soar—setting the stage for even greater achievements to come. Here’s to NLCS Dubai, a place where every endeavour shines.

ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL ACADEMIC
And just like that, another wonderful year at NLCS Dubai draws to a close. Over the past eight years I have had the privilege of witnessing the school community grow and flourish. I feel fortunate to work alongside inspirational teachers and curious, driven students. A commitment to academic ambition and a true love of learning is at the heart of everything we do – and this year has been no different. It has been a pleasure to see the breadth and depth of learning which takes place in lessons every day. Whether observing a lively Geography debate on climate reparations or watching students exploring dynamic equilibrium in Physics, the energy and enthusiasm I have seen in classrooms is inspiring.
Of course, lessons are only one aspect of what makes NLCS such a special place. Nicholson lectures, subject weeks, ECAs and whole-school events provide fantastic opportunities for enrichment and learning outside of the classroom. Some highlights for me this year include Anika Mahajan’s thought-provoking lecture on ‘Free Will’, which explored powerful ideas about autonomy and decision-making and Ms. Banks’ assembly on heroes and villains, which was a highly engaging and memorable way to begin English week. I was also delighted to attend the launch of the winter edition of La Voix Francophone, a beautifully crafted, studentled ECA publication that demonstrates student passion for the French language through a broad range of pertinent themes. These are just a handful of the experiences which for me have demonstrated the NLCS ethos of “floors not ceilings” again this year, celebrating every students potential to aim higher and think deeper.
The vibrancy and diversity of our school always shines through on International Day, and this year was no exception. My lasting memory will be Arthur’s enthusiasm to get everyone dancing and singing in the joyous Dubai sunshine. Founder’s Day was equally special. Yiming's exquisite piece, Mono Daffodil, filled the PAC with emotion. It was performed impeccably by the Senior Orchestra, with the backdrop of the Art Society’s beautiful illustrations. And finally, Yasmina's poem which highlighted the Founder’s Day theme of innovation and tradition so beautifully.
I believe that her poignant final line captures the essence of our community: “Tradition stands, yet winds inspire, Innovation fuels our fire. NLCS – both old and new, A legacy bright, a vision true.”

HAFEET HOUSE
Georgia Ward
Assistant Principal Head of Hafeet House
The strength is truly in our pack! Hafeet is bigger and better than ever. As we grow, we welcome new students and staff into our pack and celebrate a year of achievement. Some of my favourite moments from the year have been our House Song performance and winning House Music. The ensemble piece was beautiful and won the hearts of the judges. As for House Song...the energy and joy that we brought to the PAC was tangible. We smashed school records on the track at Sports Day and illustrated teamwork and skill in House Sailing. The commitment and dedication of Hafeetians never ceases to amaze me. We have such talented and creative members of the house; I am always filled with joy to witness you flourish and try yourselves out.
I wanted to say a special thank you to the Hafeet House Leadership Team! You have led with dedication and enthusiasm! A big farewell and thank you goes to Naael Mausoof for driving us forward with grace and integrity as House Captain. You will be missed as a role model to younger students and a friend to all. Congratulations to Mona Van den Abeele who leaves Hafeet as Sports Captain and joins the Big 8- very well deserved. Replacing these lovely humans will be Alexia Haykal as the new House Captain and Alexander Foussat as Sports Captain. I wish them all the best in their new roles and know that they will do Hafeet proud.
As we approach the close of yet another academic year, I find myself reflecting on the many Hafeetians who have passed through our house system. While we celebrate the achievements of each individual we are also reminded that our strength as a house lies in the unity of our members. Together, we have built a family that thrives on collective spirit and shared experiences. I could not be prouder of the spirit of collegiality we have and the supportive atmosphere of our house. For all the Hafeetians moving on to new pastures, I wish you all the best and hope you take this sense of belonging with you wherever you end up next. For all the returning staff and students in Hafeet, I hope you have a lovely summer, and I am looking forward to making new memories with you next academic year.
JAIS HOUSE
Chris May
Assistant Principal Head of Jais House
Eight years of being a proud leader of the Jais Bears comes to an end and whilst the prospect of leaving the House we created together elicits sadness, the overwhelming pride I have in all members of the House past, and present negates any negative or sorrowful feelings. It has been a pleasure and an honour to work with all the students, staff and parents of Jais and I am confident that my legacy of getting stuff done, singing loudly and prioritizing joy over victory (apart from House Song) will remain in the students and staff who continue on in Jais House.
Speaking of House Song…I am writing this the day after Jais House absolutely smashed their entry out of the PAC… they worked incredibly hard, listened to direction and, on the day, sang with gusto and joy like I have never seen them do before. Whilst my heart rate was going through the roof, I couldn’t help laughing with happiness when everyone chucked their finger streamers – something we couldn’t rehearse before – leading to what can only be described as a multicolored web of wonder on the stage. I also want to mention the awesome gang of musicians (Leo, Yiming and Sadene) who, under the leadership of Alex, put together a thumping accompaniment ready to be adapted and critiqued (constructively) by myself to ensure that the balance was exactly how it should be. That day will live on in my memory for years to come and I thank you all for it. #NeverLostTheSingingBitInEightYears #Consistency
As for other House Competitions, this year has been a bit up and down, always fun but if I could give one piece of advice to the entire House moving into their ninth year, it would be to get involved and let yourself shine…we have talent coursing through our House and if everyone used it…no other House would stand a chance! (I know I am very biased here)
Nothing would happen without our wonderful leaders. This year we thanked and said farewell to one set of leaders and welcomed a new bunch of stars. I always like to make sure everyone is named in the yearbook, so they have it in print forever so…here goes.
Our outgoing team that I would like to thank are Karim as House Captain, Tanisha as Vice-Captain, Max as Assistant Captain, Viola as Sports Captain, Thomas as Vice Sports Captain and Maya as Assistant Sports Captain. Also to thank our student counsellors Shaza, Anika M, Raaga, Zaarya, Muhammed and Yixuan. In addition to House roles, we also must thank our ambassadors; Francesco as Global Awareness Ambassador, Maxima as Wellbeing Ambassador, Amelia as Enrichment Ambassador, Anika S as Service Ambassador, Alex as Societies Ambassador and our New Student Ambassadors; Allegra, Jude, Alayna and Seren.
Picking up from these guys and carrying the House forward are the following…Allegra as House Captain, Samara as Vice-Captain and Lorenzo V as Assistant Captain. For the sports we have Amelia as Sports Captain, Kyrill as Vice Sports Captain and Araminta as Assistant Sports Captain. In the Arts we have Jude as Arts Captain and Nooria as Vice Arts Captain. Our Student Council representatives are Ella, Anna, Lilia, Rudransh, Tanisha and Farah, our New Student Ambassadors are Ginevra, Leul, Max and Avantika and this year’s Ambassadors are Teona for Global
Awareness, Alayna for Wellbeing, Yixuan and Luca for Enrichment, Thomas for Societies and Naina and Tala for Service. I know that the House is in very capable hands and will continue to grow next year! So, it is time to hand the baton on and head to ventures new. I would like to personally thank all the staff, students and parents who I have worked with over the last eight years, especially those from within the wider Pastoral Care and Geography teams. It has been fun, tiring but always a pleasure and I hope that you will all keep me updated about your journeys moving forwards. If you ever find yourself on the lovely island of Jeju let me know. I’ll be there working hard but also enjoying local teas, mandarin-based puddings and the colour green!
Over and out from your resident daffodil brandishing, ‘number on the field’ creating, House Song shouting, Nicholson organising, geography teaching… Head of House!
Big Up the Bears!

JAVI HOUSE
Rachel Mosses
Assistant Principal Head of Javi House
Year in Review – 2024/25
This has been an incredible year for Javi House – a year filled with effort, energy, and a real sense of unity. Living up to our motto “Everything is Possible,” our students have truly risen like the phoenix that represents us, showing strength, resilience, and a passion for participation in every area of school life.
We have celebrated some remarkable victories this year. Javi came out on top in the House Quiz, the House Spelling Bee, and the House Photography competition – a testament to the wide range of talents within our team. Our win in House Football was another proud moment, showing our determination and team spirit on the field.
This year also brought exciting new challenges, including House Climbing and House Sailing. While we didn’t top the tables in these, we were proud to see so many of our students stepping out of their comfort zones and giving their all. That courage and willingness to try new things is what makes Javi so special.
We are now looking ahead to House Cricket and House Swimming with great anticipation. Whatever the outcome, we know our students will give it everything they have got – as they always do.
A huge thank you must go to our phenomenal house leadership team, Chiara and Tiago. Their encouragement, organisation, and positivity have helped bring out the best in every member of the house. They have been true role models throughout the year.
To every student who’s taken part, cheered from the sidelines, or supported a teammate – thank you. You have made this year one to remember. I’m so proud of all you have achieved and the way you have represented Javi. Together, we’ve shown that for Javi House, everything really is possible!
YIBIR HOUSE
Andrew Kennedy
Assistant Principal Head of Yibir House
At the close of the 2025 academic year, it is time to reflect on another successful 12 months for Team Yibir. On a personal note, having taken over the role as Head of House for Yibir in August, it has been a challenging but deeply rewarding year. The opportunity to work even more closely with our wonderful NLCS students has been very fulfilling, and I continue to be amazed at the competence and enthusiasm of our student body. Their ability to organise and lead a whole range of events, while also maintaining high academic standards, is truly inspiring.
Yibir’s sporting prowess has once again been on show this year, with victories in House Football and House Basketball, while success once again in Sports Day was the crowning achievement for many Yibirians. However, it was this year’s House Song that truly demonstrated the camaraderie and strength of Yibir House. Yes, we may not have topped the charts in this particular competition, but the way in which students approached the competition was excellent. To see the entire House, from Grade 6 to Grade 12, grace the stage to perform ‘Can’t Stop The Feeling’ was a particular highlight for myself – and it was excellent to see a lot of fun being had! Any round up of this year would be incomplete without a shout out to those students who make sure the wheels of Yibir House keep turning. Under the leadership of House Captain Safa Yesilhark, Sports Captain Arjun Mittal, our Vice-Captains Nadine Mehanna and Lara Kayaleh, and Assistant Captains Isabella Irwin and Maurya Vaidya, we have seen huge amounts of participation in a plethora of house competitions – a huge thank you to you all for your efforts!
Looking ahead, I am incredibly excited to work with our incumbent student leadership team. House Captain Devica Sadarangani, supported by Lamya Zargarian and Jaedon Phillips, Sports Captain Lara Kayaleh, who will be assisted by Isabella Irwin and Ethan Francis, and our first ever Arts Captain Leyla Negre-Tozzi and ViceArts Captain Laith Muflahi-Isley, have already proven their leadership credentials. While at the time of writing the destination of this year’s House trophy remains unknown, whatever the outcome, I would like to say a huge thank you to every single member of Team Yibir. I am incredibly proud of you all!

MATHEMATICS
Nora Linhart Head of Mathematics
This year has been an exciting and enriching one for the Mathematics Department, filled with competitions, creativity, and curiosity. Our students have continued to embrace challenges and demonstrate their mathematical talent both in and out of the classroom.
Participation in external competitions reached new heights, with many students taking part in prestigious international contests such as the UKMT, the American Mathematics Challenge, Challenge Me, and the Waterloo University Competitions. These platforms gave our mathematicians the chance to stretch their problem-solving skills and think outside the box, representing our school with pride.
One of the most memorable highlights of the year was our impressive performance in the Dubai Maths Super League, where our school placed third overall, competing against top schools from across the city. Particularly noteworthy was the outstanding achievement of our Grade 8 team, who secured first place in their round, showcasing not just mathematical ability, but teamwork and resilience under pressure.
This year’s Maths Week was another great success, with the theme of Resilience taking centre stage—an essential quality in mathematical thinking. Students across the school took part in a series of engaging and mind-bending activities including the Ken Ken Challenge, Maths Challenge, Countdown, and the intriguing Maths Mystery. These events encouraged perseverance, logical reasoning, and creative problem-solving, reminding students that setbacks are simply stepping stones to deeper understanding.
Our passion for mathematics also extended to deeper academic exploration through this year’s Nicholson Lectures. Mr. Isley delivered a captivating talk titled ‘How John Harrison Tamed the Seven Seas’, highlighting the mathematical ingenuity behind solving the problem of longitude. Mr. Jacobs followed with ‘From Apples to Infinitesimals: Newton’s Calculus Revolution Unravelled’, guiding students through the historical and conceptual roots of one of mathematics’ most powerful tools. Both lectures were incredibly wellreceived and sparked lively discussion and questions from students keen to explore beyond the curriculum.
Throughout the year, our students have demonstrated commitment, resilience, and a love of learning that defines our Mathematics community. Whether solving complex problems or collaborating in competitions and societies, they continue to prove that mathematics is not just about numbers, but about curiosity, creativity, and the courage to tackle the unknown. We look forward to seeing where their mathematical journey will take them next!
ENGLISH
Amy Banks
Head of English
This year in the English Department has been nothing short of a literary epic, brimming with drama, debate, and dazzling wordplay. From the thunderous rhetoric of our House Debating competition to the nail-biting tension of the House Spelling Bee, students have proved that language is both a weapon and a wonder.
We explored what it means to be a hero or a villain during our themed subject week - though we suspect a few students now identify as misunderstood antiheroes. Our G11 and 12 masterclasses saw minds sharpened and metaphors polished, while a mock trial of A Doll’s House gave Nora her day in courtcomplete with fierce barristers and scandalous objections.
In classrooms, students voyaged through Shakespeare’s forested chaos in A Midsummer Night’s Dream, unravelled secrets in The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde and faced the darkness in Lord of the Flies. Whether grappling with Orwell’s barnyard allegories or unpicking Priestley’s moral maze in An Inspector Calls, our students have done so with insight and flair.
Beyond the curriculum, our extra-curricular offerings have flourished. Oasis Magazine continues to showcase the creative firepower of our writers. The new Film Society has rolled into action, pairing popcorn with plot analysis, while the Literature Society offers a space for profound and passionate discussions. Our Book Club, meanwhile, continues to grow—spreading quietly and excitedly like a good story passed from reader to reader. Here’s to another year of story, structure, and style. The pen, as ever, remains mightier.
Amy Wybrant Head of Science
It has been another fantastic and enriching year for Science at our school. We began the academic year with a captivating lecture, "The Life and Death of a Cell", delivered by Professor Simpson. He guided us through a remarkable journey, beginning with the fundamental unit of life and progressing to the groundbreaking application of green fluorescent proteins (GFP) in drug delivery. His insights into how GFP technology is transforming targeted treatment strategies left students inspired and intellectually curious. Students across all year groups have engaged in a range of opportunities beyond the classroom. Our learners participated in prestigious global competitions, including the Physics Super Bowl, the National Biology Competition hosted by the University of Toronto as well as The British Biology Challenge, with several notable successes and commendable performances. In the field, our Grade 11 students embarked on an engaging ecology trip, applying their knowledge through real-world sampling techniques. Highlights included Zunyi’s enthusiastic dolphin dive to collect samples and Riyad’s commitment to data collection, spending much of the day embedded in a mangrove bush!
One of the most memorable experiences this year was our overseas trip to Thailand, where students had the unique opportunity to take part in hands-on conservation work. From replanting native tree species in degraded forests to restoring vital mangrove ecosystems, students developed a deep appreciation for environmental stewardship. A particular highlight was learning about the turtle head-start program, where students observed juvenile sea turtles before their release into the wild—an experience that combined biology, ecology, and conservation in an unforgettable way. This trip not only strengthened scientific understanding but also nurtured a strong sense of global responsibility and teamwork. Our science societies have continued to thrive this year. The Medical Society has gone from strength to strength, offering a series of informative and entertaining sessions. An example of this is when Lara led a session on how to perform surgical suturing. We were also thrilled to see the launch of two new student-led initiatives—the Chemistry Society and the Biology Society—further enriching our community and fostering a deeper passion for the sciences. With innovation, exploration, and enthusiasm at its core, Science at our school continues to grow and inspire.
SCIENCE
Neil Redondo Head of Modern Foreign Languages
This school year has been a celebration of culture and language in the Modern Languages faculty, where we continue to teach French, German, Mandarin, and Spanish. September saw the return of our much-anticipated MFL Week, which was packed with immersive experiences. Highlights included a visiting German bakery, traditional Chinese games, a lively salsa dance workshop, and, of course, the indulgence of delicious French pastries!
Our older French students enjoyed the opportunity to put their language skills to the test during French meals in town, ordering in French and navigating real-world conversations with confidence. For our Mandarin learners, the Lunar New Year was a memorable occasion, brought to life by our selfless Chinese and Korean parent communities who led celebrations filled with colour, music, and traditional festivities.
Our native French speakers took part in a special recital of French fables and a drama workshop, and the department was also thrilled to see the launch of La Voix Francophone, our very own French-language magazine.
Meanwhile, German students had a blast on our unforgettable ski trip to Ski Dubai, where they practised their language skills on the slopes and over mugs of steaming hot chocolate. The German reading competition brought students together from across Dubai, showcasing their language talents and building cross-school friendships.
Throughout the year the faculty has been supported by the Languages Society. To our leadership team of Hana, Celine, and Sanaa we wish you all the very best as you head off to university next year.
Here's to another inspiring year of multilingual adventures!

Arabic
Ms Rasha El Said
Head of Arabic
It has been a positive and enriching year for the Arabic Department. From the Grade 7 trip to engaging assemblies, Arabic Week celebrations, staff quizzes, and student competitions, learners have had numerous opportunities to strengthen their language skills and cultural awareness. We are pleased to share some of this year’s key highlights:
1. Arabic Reading Challenge Competition
We proudly participated in the prestigious Arabic Reading Challenge, a nationwide initiative launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Ruler of Dubai. The competition promotes a love for reading and the Arabic language. This year we witnessed enthusiastic participation from our students, who demonstrated a commitment to reading well beyond the classroom, reflecting their growing passion for Arabic literature.
2. Arabic Assembly
Grade 11 students led an engaging assembly that showcased unique cultural aspects from various Arab countries. Rather than focusing on widely known traditions, students highlighted lesser-known customs, local sayings, hidden historical sites, and traditional beliefs unique to their regions. The event began with a quiz to spark curiosity, followed by personal stories and insights shared by the students, offering a deeper look into the diversity of the Arab world. The assembly concluded with a heartfelt Arabic song performed by students of Arab heritage, leaving a lasting impression on the audience.
3. Grade 2 Parental Engagement Session
We hosted an interactive session for Grade 2 parents, providing them with the opportunity to engage in Arabic learning alongside their children. Through fun games, activities, and shared reading tasks, parents gained valuable insight into the learning process. This event helped build stronger home-school partnerships and encouraged continued support for Arabic learning in a joyful and collaborative environment.
These initiatives reflect our ongoing commitment to promoting Arabic language learning, encouraging cultural appreciation, and building positive connections within our school community.
Islamic STUDIES
Sarah Hussain Head of Islamic Studies
What a memorable year it has been in Islamic Studies! From thought-provoking class discussions to joyful celebrations and spiritual reflection, this year has truly been filled with growth. We have loved seeing our students bring their learning to life, whether through leading assemblies, or taking part in our exciting Islamic Awards Programme.
This year we focused on helping students connect Islamic values with real-world situations. From exploring honesty, compassion, and critical thinking to linking Islamic teachings with IB content, such as the Learner Profiles, Theory of Knowledge, and Global Contexts. It has been amazing to see students reflect on how Islam shapes their choices and identity every day. A strong emphasis was also placed on developing students’ skills in recitation, understanding the meanings of the Quran, and connecting with it on a deeper spiritual and personal level.
Ramadan was a wonderful highlight. Our Junior School came alive with Ramadan reading sessions, where parents joined us to read Islamic stories and raise awareness about the beauty and spirit of the holy month. It was heartwarming to see students so engaged and curious.
The school was also beautifully transformed with vibrant Ramadan decorations; colorful lanterns, crescent moons, and stars filled our halls and added a festive, joyful atmosphere that brought the entire community together.
One of the most impactful moments was our whole-school Ramadan food drive. With everyone’s support, we packed and donated 595 food boxes to the Red Crescent, an incredible act of giving!
To our amazing students and supportive families, thank you for being part of this journey. We are proud of all we have achieved together and excited for what is to come, Insha’Allah.
Eid Al Etihad 53
In the First School Library, we launched a fun new feature, "What’s Your Favourite Book?" Each week, students had to guess which teacher was being featured and what book they loved as a child. It was a great way to learn more about our teachers and the stories that sparked their love of reading. One of the highlights was when Mr. Locke visited the library to read The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, his childhood favourite, to our Grade 1 students. Each week, the children were excited to see who was on the board, and they were especially thrilled when it turned out to be their own class teacher. It became a special part of the library that everyone looked forward to.
The Buss Library has continued to be a warm and welcoming space where imaginations soar, and a love of reading is celebrated every day. One of the highlights was our exciting Book Week, filled with activities that brought stories to life! Students dressed up for Character Dress-Up Day, showed off their creativity in the Bookmark Design Competition, and took part in our lively Character Parades. The ever-popular Extreme Reading challenge had everyone finding the most unusual places to enjoy a book, and classrooms were transformed with our "Decorate Your Door" activity, each one celebrating a different book or author.
As for the Senior Library, we opened the year with a reading challenge, Students had to widen their reading by choosing books from different genres to fill their Genre Bingo cards. October saw a group of grade 6 & 7 students aiming to make it to the final round of the Emirates Literature Festival Chevron Readers’ Cup. Despite lots of in-depth reviewing, the deviousness of the questions meant our teams fell short of their goal but enjoyed the experience. Book Fairs, Book Week, ECAs and student volunteers have kept the senior library buzzing with activity all year.
Happy Reading! And remember… “There is more treasure in books than in all the pirates' loot on Treasure Island and best of all, you can enjoy these riches every day of your life.” - Walt Disney.
Old Books for New Eyes – Giving Stories a Second Life
This year, our ECA Old Books for New Eyes made a powerful impact, thanks to the dedication of our student volunteers. Focused on giving gently used books a new home, the initiative collects donations to help set up libraries in under-resourced schools in Kenya, Angola, Uganda, Tanzania and India.
Our amazing Junior and Senior School volunteers organised school-wide book drives with enthusiasm and care. From sorting and packing to shipping, they worked together to ensure every book found its place. We are thrilled to share that we surpassed our initial goal of 2,000 books in just the first term - a true testament to what young hearts and helping hands can achieve.
These books will soon be in the hands of children eager to read, learn, and dream. One book at a time, our students are changing the world.
MUSIC
George Agius
Director of Music
It has been another busy and vibrant year in the Music department across Junior and Senior School Our instrumental music programme has grown yet again with hundreds of our students having lessons on a wide variety of different instruments and for voice each week. Subsequently, there have never been as many performance opportunities available to students, including regular Music Morning Series performances taking place throughout the year across Junior and Senior school. Meanwhile, the extra-curricular programme continues to flourish with more students than ever engaging in the numerous musical ensembles on offer to them. New experiences were available this year too with Beginner Keyboard, Ukulele and Samba ensembles opening the door to all students to embrace their passion for music.
In the Junior School, there were record numbers as over 80 students were singing within two different choirs led by Ms Peoples and Ms Byrnes. Meanwhile, Mr Marsden continued to lead the Junior Orchestra, Rock Band and Beginner Band. All of these ensembles performed superbly in the Junior Festive recital which was a wonderful celebration of music for the term.
The Samba Band opened the concert with a typically powerful performance. What followed was an exciting selection of pieces from the Junior Orchestra performing Sinatra’s classic, ‘New York, New York’, a highly impressive solo piano performance by Yuchen of ‘We Wish You a Merry Christmas’ with variations in Baroque, Classical, Romantic and Jazz style and the grades 4 and 5 choir singing the Toy Story favourite, ‘You’ve Got a Friend in Me’. The evening came to a fitting festive conclusion with all singing students from grades 2 to 5 coming together to perform ‘I Feel Like Fa La La La’. It was another special evening for Junior school music.
In the Senior School, again there was more engagement in the extra-curricular provision in the department than ever before. As a result, the Senior Festive recital was bigger and better than ever. The School of Rock, Intermediate Ensemble, Woodwind Ensemble, Jazz Band, Buckminsterfullerene (a second rock band with an intriguing Chemistry-based name), Senior String Ensemble and Senior Orchestra all contributed to an eclectic mix of fine instrumental performances. The Jazz Band closed the first half with a charming festive favourite, ‘Baby it’s Cold Outside’ featuring a stunning vocal duet by Aarav Laungani and Juliette Locke. There were also three choral ensembles; the Chamber Choir, the Community Choir and the whole of grade 6 singing two seasonal songs that brought a smile to each and every audience member. This year there were two special performances that were composed by our very own students. Alexander El Ghandour performed his ‘Waltz of Forgotten Memoroes’ on the piano in sensational and suitably expressive fashion. Meanwhile, Yiming Aizezi composed ‘Mono-Daffodil’, written specifically for the students of the Senior Orchestra; quite an extraordinary achievement.
House Music was a roaring success in both Junior and Senior school. For both competitions, an extra round was introduced to compensate for the thriving number of students getting involved. In the Junior competition, the eventual winners were Eishin Yamaoka in the Emerging category, Vir Raadhyaksha in Intermediate and Yuchen Zhao in Advanced. However, all involved in the final could be considered winners as every performance contributed to a superb event. In the Senior competition, Saachi Mehra won the Emerging category, Arun Vijay the Intermediate and Zihao Ji the Advanced category in what was an extremely high-level evening of music. The Ensemble prize was won by three violinists of Hafeet house, Yicheng, Arthur and Jianqin performing the iconic ‘Canon in D' by Pachabel.
The musical year always comes to a close with the Summer recitals and once again, the audience were blown away by the talent and dedication on show. The Junior recital demonstrated wonderful progress within the Beginner Band as they graduated from the year with many of the group deciding to continue their musical journey by signing up to lessons next year. The Junior Orchestra, Rock Band and singing ensembles once again were a credit to themselves with fantastic performances.
In the Senior Recital, another eclectic mix of performances were on show through the various instrumental and vocal ensembles. A special mention must go to Lana Alrayes performing a vocal solo of ‘Don’t Know Why’ by Norah Jones along with the Jazz Band as well as Arthur Bremaud who confidently conducted the Senior Orchestra for their performance of ‘Finlandia’ by Sibelius.
Another fantastic year has gone by in Music but there is a lot of excitement for what is to come next academic year.
COMMITTEE
The work of the Charity Committee is a key component of school life at NLCS. Events such as our Pink Day and Festive jumper Day are part of the very fabric of the school year, and it is always a joy to see students come together to raise awareness and funds for worthy causes. Under the leadership of Shreeya Makhija and Karim Youssef, we have continued to raise substantial funds for both the Emirates Red Crescent and the Al Jalila Foundation, as well as raising awareness of numerous other worthy causes.
A particular joy of working with the Charity Committee is the opportunity to work so closely with the NLCS Parents’ Guild. The contribution of our parents is essential to the success of charitable events, and the hands-on work of our parents was once again evident during the Pink Day bake sale. From baking delicious treats to manning the cake stalls, the Parents’ Guild were kept busy for the full school day as students from Pre-KG to Sixth Form rushed to snap up something sweet.
The power of our school community was no more on show than during this year’s unprecedented Ramadan Food Drive. Under the guidance of our Head of Islamic, Mrs. Sarah Hussain, and once again in close coordination with the Parents’ Guild, a mountain of food was donated by kind NLCS students and parents to give to those in need during the Holy Month. Throughout Ramadan, NLCS students gave up their break and lunchtimes in order to pack the food boxes, with hundreds collected by the Emirates Red Crescent for distribution. A truly inspiring feat!
TOLERANCE AND DIVERSITY DAY
On Tuesday 21st January, NLCS Dubai celebrated Tolerance and Diversity Day—a truly inspiring occasion that brought the Junior School community together in a colourful display of unity and inclusion. Set against the backdrop of our school field, the event showcased the rich cultural heritage of our students and families, with over 30 countries represented. Each nation hosted a dedicated stall, beautifully curated to reflect its unique traditions, cuisine, and customs. It was a wonderful opportunity for pupils to explore and appreciate the diverse backgrounds that make up our vibrant school community. Throughout the day, the field was alive with activity. Pupils eagerly visited the stalls, sampling traditional dishes, engaging in creative crafts, and learning about customs from around the world. The atmosphere was further enhanced by a series of captivating performances, including music, dance, and storytelling—each one offering a window into a different culture. Whether it was trying on traditional clothing, practising new languages, or taking part in cultural games, there was something for everyone to enjoy and learn from. More than just a celebration, Tolerance and Diversity Day served as a powerful reminder of what it means to be a global citizen—to be curious, open-minded, and respectful of others' experiences and perspectives. We extend our heartfelt thanks to the many parent volunteers whose enthusiasm and dedication made the event such a success. Your support helped create a meaningful and memorable experience for all, and we look forward to continuing this tradition in the years to come.

The Extracurricular Activities Programme at NLCS Dubai is designed to cultivate student passions and foster innovation. This year the teaching staff created a hugely diverse and engaging menu across the school with new initiatives to inspire. This combined with an increasing number of student-led proposals coming to life through pioneering initiatives, facilitated our growing community to thrive beyond the classroom. From dentistry to philosophy, crochet to podcasts, and even designing an ECA to support an international service trip to Kenya, the students have been both busy and keen to add to, and give back to the community.
Empowering students to explore their interests, develop critical skills, and collaborate with peers is very much the norm at NLCS Dubai. As we witness an era of increased AI, where knowledge is more easily attained, encouraging students to create their own ECAs nurtures creativity and problem-solving abilities, ensuring students are wellequipped for future challenges.
It has been a busy year, and I hope the staff and students reflect on their many contributions to creating a vibrant community beyond the classroom, where students have thrived as engaged and innovative individuals as well as learn from their peers.
Kenya Trip to
In September 2023, two Grade 11 students approached me in my then role as CAS Coordinator to discuss the possibility of a student trip to Kenya. Fast-forward 16 months, and Mayya Mattoo and Maxima Bruno Ferreira, with another 30 students in tow, boarded a plane to Nairobi for a week-long service trip in the East African country. From the initial conversations with our tour provider, to liaising with local schools in Kenya, and finally to leading pre-trip educational sessions for other students, the entire trip was planned and led by NLCS students Mayya and Maxima.
The basis of the trip was to travel to the Kasigau Corridor and assist local schools with the painting of murals on their school walls. In order to ensure the trip was as ethical as possible, students held regular online meetings with school leaders and with a local artist, directly working with Kenyan students on the designs for the murals. Additionally, Allegra Kelly, Youssef Sayed and Edward Tabanji organised a Sports Drive, with donated sporting equipment being distributed to the three schools we visited during the trip. The leadership and organisation of all students involved made the trip even more enjoyable for the teachers who joined – myself, Mrs. Bakari and Ms. Christian. Well done and a big thank you for the memories to all students involved!
Sailing Trip to
This year, sailing reached impressive heights, with 40 dedicated sailors honing their skills and earning RYA qualifications at DOSC each week. Highlights included the inaugural NLCS Dubai inter-house sailing regatta, where junior and senior sailors teamed up, in one boat, with Jais emerging as the standout winner. The staff versus student yacht evening races added an exciting twist, culminating in a memorable victory for the students over Mr. Locke and his crew.
Undoubtedly the Keelboat Academy were most pioneering. To prepare for the Oman Yacht expedition, the senior sailors achieved their professional sea survival qualifications which included theory and practical tests. The most memorable of which was the live abandoning drill into a life raft, amongst waves, and lightening and thunder. A challenging night yacht expedition ensued from Oman to the UAE, showcasing navigational knowledge and resilience, whilst students sailed over 150 miles along the coast. Overall, it has been a remarkable year full of unforgettable experiences and growth within the sailing community.
FRANCE Ski Trip to
The annual ski trip to the French Alps headed to the renowned resort of Alpe d’ Huez in February. Perfect weather conditions served as an extraordinary catalyst for skill progression among our NLCS students.
Through structured instruction, ample practice time, and the sheer joy of skiing in a stunning setting, the experience not only enhanced skiing abilities but also fostered personal growth, teamwork, and a deeper appreciation for the sport and the mountains. With access to professional ESF coaching in small groups, students received personal feedback and targeted skill development, ensuring progressive learning, where students were challenged appropriately without feeling overwhelmed. The longer days in ski school and favorable conditions also allowed for more practice, leading to faster improvement as well as some lovely photos!
The variety of terrain offered diverse skiing—green runs for beginners, blue runs for intermediates, and black runs for advanced skiers. This variety allowed students to experience different challenges through the week, with many NLCS students progressing to ski the longest black run in Europe “La Sarenne”.
Après activities highlights included ice skating and snow games, but the Luge, a super-fast toboggan on rails won over popularity. With the combination of eighty Junior and Senior Students and staff, the trip made for a memorable and impactful learning experience that strengthened our community. We look forward to returning to Alpe d’ Huez next year for more of the same.
Performing Arts Trip to
LONDON
The London arts trip was an absolute whirlwind for the students. From the moment they arrived, they were immersed in culture and history, strolling past the iconic Buckingham Palace and getting up close to celebrities at Madame Tussauds. The evenings were just as captivating, spent watching incredible musicals and thought-provoking plays that left them buzzing with excitement. Days were filled with exploring the city, averaging an impressive 18,000 steps a day as they took in the panoramic views from the London Eye, contemplated modern masterpieces at the Tate Modern, and stepped back in time at the Hendrix and Handel Houses. They enjoyed a memorable walk around the iconic Globe Theatre and an engaging tour of the Royal Opera House.
This trip was more than just sightseeing; it was an invaluable experience that broadened their horizons and brought their classroom learning to vibrant life.
Thailand Service Trip to
Our trip to Thailand was an incredible blend of adventure and conservation. We contributed to the environmental sustainability through a beach clean-up, forest and mangrove restoration projects, and learnt about Thailand's green sea turtle head start program. Kayaking through the mangroves offered a unique view of the ecosystem we were working to restore. We also immersed ourselves in Thai culture by taking part in traditional cooking classes, learning to prepare delicious local dishes, as well as Thai language lessons from a local guide. Overall, it was a rewarding experience filled with purpose, learning, and connection with nature.
NLCS Music Festival
Singapore
One of the highlights of this year was the inaugural NLCS Music festival in Singapore. 21 musical students from NLCS Dubai joined students from our counterparts in London, Jeju and Singapore for a long weekend of music making. The students collaborated with their peers to produce an incredible concert in just 3 days including a rousing rendition of Raiders March from the Indiana Jones movies by the vast orchestra that was created, a stunning performance of The Seal Lullaby by the outstanding choral group and a world premiere of Unity; a piece composed specifically for this Music festival. The students had an incredible time and were truly inspired by the occasion. We are very excited for the next festival in what will now become a biannual event across the NLCS family of schools.
This year the students truly embodied the spirit of adventure and resilience through their outstanding commitment to the Junior Bryant Award ECA. Over the course of the year, our students mastered essential wilderness navigation skills, including map and compass reading and the fast-paced challenge of orienteering.
From the desert trails of Mushrif Park on a day hike to the crashing waves at the Dubai Offshore Sailing Club during the Ocean Warriors Sea Survival course, our enthusiastic learners consistently demonstrated courage, teamwork, and a passion for the outdoors. Whether leading as a group through tricky terrain or braving the sea in survival scenarios, the students remained calm, capable, and confident.
In recognition of completing all four core components of the program; Physical, Service, Skill, and the Independent Day Hike, our Grade 5 students have shown not only personal growth but a genuine enthusiasm for pushing outdoor education boundaries and learning through experience.
Well done, to every student! Your adventurous spirit has left a trail others will be inspired to follow and Sophie Bryant would be extremely proud of you.
Duke of Edinburgh
A Journey of Growth and Achievement
This year, students across the school have risen to the challenge of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award at Bronze, Silver, and Gold levels. From weekend treks through rugged landscapes to months of volunteering, mastering new skills, and pushing personal boundaries, participants have demonstrated resilience, teamwork, and leadership in action.
Each level brought its own challenges. Bronze students tackled their first expeditions and discovered the importance of planning, communication, and self-reliance. Silver participants built on this foundation, navigating tougher routes and longer journeys with confidence. Gold candidates undertook their most ambitious expeditions yet and committed to extended service and skill development—some even completing a residential stay, stepping out of their comfort zones and forming new friendships.
Throughout the year, students have developed time management, responsibility, and a genuine sense of accomplishment. Whether learning a musical instrument, coaching a sport, or volunteering in the community, they’ve made a meaningful impact.
The DofE journey is more than just an award—it’s a transformation. Congratulations to everyone who embraced the challenge this year. You’ve not only earned a certificate but built lifelong memories and skills that will serve you far beyond the classroom.
Well done, adventurers!

Through engaging debates and diplomatic discussions, delegates had the opportunity to tackle pressing global issues, develop critical thinking skills, and enhance their public speaking abilities. Model United Nations at NLCS strives to be a place of collaboration, forward thinking and hopes to foster a sense of community, respect and encourage civic engagement.
Dev Mamtora (MUN ECA Student Leader): As a student leader I help oversee the students in our MUN extracurricular. Being organized isn't about being perfect, but about making things happen, and we aim to bring out the best in all our students.
Ilan Khalpey (G7 MUN Student): The world changes when voices unite, not when they argue. MUN is a platform to engage in diplomacy and for students to learn that solving global issues comes from respect and compassion towards others. It's a place where every voice can be heard, and you can grow your public speaking skills.
DIAMUN Conference
This year, a group of dedicated and passionate Grade 4 and 5 students had the incredible opportunity to represent our school at the Junior DIAMUN Conference — and what a journey it was! From the very first training session to the final speeches in the committee rooms, these young delegates demonstrated resilience, responsibility, and remarkable growth.
Throughout the experience, our students developed key skills that will serve them for years to come. Public speaking, collaboration, and diplomacy were at the heart of their learning, as they tackled real-world global issues with maturity, creativity, and empathy. Whether drafting resolutions, debating solutions, or working with peers from other schools, every delegate rose to the challenge with confidence and grace.
They learned how to listen actively, think critically, and speak persuasively — not just to be heard, but to truly make a difference. Witnessing our students engage in respectful debate, stand up for their ideas, and negotiate with compassion was a proud moment for all involved.
The DIAMUN experience was not just about debate and diplomacy — it was about finding their voice, understanding the world, and realising that even young people can lead change.
To our outstanding Junior DIAMUN team — thank you for being such inspiring ambassadors of our school. Your commitment, courage, and camaraderie made us all incredibly proud. We hope this experience has sparked a lifelong passion for leadership, advocacy, and global citizenship.
Here’s to more big ideas, brave speeches, and bright futures ahead!
HOUSE COMPETITIONS
This year at NLCS Dubai, the House spirit has soared higher than ever! With fierce competition, unshakable camaraderie, and countless unforgettable moments, our House system has brought out the best in everyone on stage, on the field, and in the classroom.
Night’s Dream a Midsummer
The Athenian woods truly came alive this year as the students of Grades 6, 7, and 8 at NLCS Dubai put on a simply enchanting production of A Midsummer Night's Dream! For three glorious nights, the school theatre transformed into a whimsical realm filled with fairies and mischievous sprites, showcasing the outstanding efforts of our amazing NLCS Dubai Drama Department.
The intricately crafted woodland set, adorned with twinkling lights and trailing vines, created a captivating backdrop that was nothing short of magical. The ethereal costumes sparkled under the stage lights, adding to the visual splendour of the performance.
Our talented young cast embraced Shakespeare's language with remarkable confidence and clarity, infusing the iconic characters with fresh, vibrant energy. Puck's playful antics, the lovers' tangled affections, and the mechanicals' hilarious attempts at theatre were all delivered with infectious enthusiasm! The direction, a fantastic collaboration between the talented Mr. Clench and our dedicated NLCS Drama team, ensured a seamless flow to the performance and nuanced character portrayals.
It truly was a magical experience that showcased the immense talent, dedication, and creativity of these young performers. The entire NLCS family—whether on stage or in the audience—came together to create a delightful and unforgettable occasion. The atmosphere buzzed with magic and joy, making every moment special. Experiences like this, filled with shared enthusiasm and camaraderie, create cherished memories that will last a lifetime!
Bravo!

BIG BIG
This academic year has undeniably been the most memorable. Being a member of the Big 6 at NLCS Dubai has brought about its challenges, but above all has been a privilege which I am grateful to have had, as it gave me the opportunity to collaborate with others towards shared goals and meaningful change. With the support and inspiration of my fellow Big 6 members, classmates, teachers, and younger students, I was able to grow into my role as a leader—developing my own voice, refining my approach, and learning from the strengths of those around me. As the Student Voice Ambassador, I came to truly appreciate the importance of ensuring that every student feels heard. While student voice has always held a place at NLCS, I have come to see just how vital it is to a thriving and inclusive school environment. Leading student council meetings, getting to know representatives from each grade, and discussing their perspectives on school life, allowed us to strengthen the bridge between students and staff. I am deeply grateful for being given the opportunity to contribute to this dialogue and help amplify the voices of others.
Joining NLCS as a new student, I was initially apprehensive about stepping into a leadership role without yet fully understanding the vibrant community that shapes the school. However, with the endless support from a dedicated team—and the contributions of Mr. Locke’s resourcefulness, Mrs. Dawson’s innovation, and Ms. Clegg’s motivation— my transition into the role became both seamless and rewarding. Over the course of the year, working alongside my fellow Big 6 members—Aarav, Sannat, Ashok, Imaad, and Leo—we collaborated closely to act on student feedback, whether it was addressing the challenges of the IB curriculum, enhancing sixth form study time, or improving the lunch line. Being part of the Big 6 has been a true privilege, allowing me to contribute meaningfully to a community I now proudly call my own—an experience I will always cherish.
“This past year has been one full of growth, collaboration and legacy. From organising major school events to voicing student concerns, I have learned what it means to lead with humility and purpose. We, the Big 6 as a whole, have seen fundamental changes and improvements for student life at NLCS Dubai. For instance, during our tenure the school timetable shifted from 40-minute lessons to 1-hour lessons, as well as to a two-week timetable rather than one-week. It was at this time that the Big 6 were needed the most: to voice student opinions and be able to create a chain of positive impact in the community.
As probably the last enrichment ambassador of the school, I have learned that most times success cannot be expected in the short-run. This leadership experience has taught me that being a leader means creating sustainable change – something that provides a platform for greater long-term gain and a more meaningful impact. In memory of this year’s Founders Day theme, this past academic year has been enriched with innovation, transition, and a creation of tradition. I wish the future Big 8 an amazing year ahead with many memories to come!”

IMAAD BANDALI
Being one of the inaugural members of NLCS Dubai’s Big 6 has been an unforgettable journey filled with challenges, collaboration, and celebration. This role has allowed me to grow and learn from those around me—whether it’s my fellow Big 6 members or the Senior School Leadership Team. From our weekly meetings with Mr. Locke, Ms. Dawson, and Ms. Clegg to the Big 6 and House Captains coming together to sing “I Want It That Way” by the Backstreet Boys, this past year has truly been the highlight of my eight years at NLCS Dubai.
The experience has been filled with laughter and joy. Whether it was the 12 Weeks of NLCS or the laughter in our weekly meetings, I’ve made memories that I will cherish for a lifetime—stories I’ll undoubtedly share with my future children and grandchildren. Two moments that stand out vividly are performing in the annual Sixth Form adaptation of Aladdin (Aladeen) and leading Yibir’s House Drama performance with a ‘slightly Scottish’ Scouse accent. Serving as the Wellbeing Ambassador has been an incredibly fulfilling role. From the outset, I aimed to foster positivity and happiness within the school community—values that I believe resonate through the NLCS walls every day. With the support of the Wellbeing Committee, led by the ever-encouraging Mr. May, I’ve been able to give back to the environment that a timid, Grade 5 Imaad first stepped into as a 10-year-old.
I am profoundly grateful to my fellow Big 6 members—Aarav, Ashok, Juliette, Sannat, and Leo. Working together not just as friends but as a family has made this experience truly special. To the Senior School Leadership Team and the incredible staff at NLCS Dubai, thank you for giving me the opportunity to serve the school I proudly call home and to do so in ways that bring me joy and purpose.
AARAV LAUNGANI
Out of all the yearbook and yearbook messages I’ve written over the years, this one is undeniably the most bittersweet. As I reflect on my time here at NLCS Dubai, I am overwhelmed with gratitude. Grateful for the lessons I have learned. Grateful for the shared values we’ve nurtured. Grateful for the friendships that have flourished along the way. As I embark on this new chapter, I carry with me every small interaction, conversation, and fleeting moment that has shaped me into who I am today.
Serving as a member of the Big 6 for the 24-25 academic year has been an honor, providing me with opportunities to connect deeply with the school community—interactions which have made me learn, laugh and introspect. Whether it was through collaborating and overseeing the Charity and Eco committees, or just a corridor conversation, together we have built a culture of inclusivity, understanding, and service that I am proud to have been part of. When I first came to NLCS Dubai, it really surprised me how each and every member of the school community upholds the principle that ‘much is expected from those to whom much is given’. Yet, now, this culture is what makes NLCS Dubai home. As I leave this role behind, as much as I can say I have tried to enrich your own NLCS Dubai experience, I can say—unwaveringly— that you have enriched my life in more ways than you can ever imagine. I am excited to see what the future holds for each and every one of you and I know that beyond a shadow of a doubt each one of you will be happy and successful in whatever way means the most to you when you leave our school. I’ll always cherish the time I’ve spent here, and all I can really say is thank you.
I would also like to thank my fellow members of the Big 6, Sannat, Ashok, Imaad, Leo and Juliette for all the work they have done alongside me and on behalf of our school community this year; your passion and dedication are second to none. And a huge thank you to Ms. Clegg, Mr. Locke, and Ms. Dawson for listening, supporting, and laughing with us.
SANNAT ODHRANI
Looking back at our time as not only members of the Big 6, but as part of NLCS Dubai, has undoubtedly been one that has brought up a series of emotions, especially seeing the school grow throughout the years. I am truly grateful to NLCS for providing not just myself, but every student, with the opportunity to grow and flourish as people.
While the role of Big 6 initially appeared incredibly daunting, with its multiple expectations, not least to attend weekly meetings, and speak to members of the wider NLCS community outside Dubai, I was fortunate enough to have had the opportunity to work with Aarav, Ashok, Juliette, Imaad and Leo, and the Senior Leadership Team; Mr. Locke, Ms. Dawson and Ms. Clegg. Their endless support, humour, dedication, drive, and passion for the school has been deeply inspiring and meant being a part of the Big 6 as Societies Ambassador was a true honour. I am very grateful to the amazing people they are.
I was fortunate to be able to launch an online ‘Societies Assembly,’ work with students to invite external speakers to deliver talks to the 6th form, conduct societies audits, and work with the many lovely society chairs to hold a Societies Fair at the 6th Form Open Evening. It has been a busy year, but being constantly exposed to the vibrant community of people at NLCS, their passion and ambition particularly with regards to societies, has meant this opportunity was one I’m glad I was able to experience to the fullest and I will certainly be sad to leave behind.
NLCS has given me a series of wonderful memories that I know I will cherish and look back upon very fondly, allowed me to meet a series of people across the school that are kind, dedicated and caring, and make NLCS something far more than just a place enclosed by walls.
I’d like to take this opportunity to wish the incoming Big 8; Nadine, Francesco, Edward, Arjun, Tian, Mona, Anna and Alex the very best with their new roles, and to you, if you are currently aspiring to be a part of the Big 8 in the future. I have no doubt that you will be amazing, and wish you the very best! I hope you won’t be afraid to dream big, put yourself out there, do what you love and build on your passions. What do you aspire to do? What would you like to leave behind?
Good luck!
2024/25 has been an unforgettable year at NLCS Dubai—one filled with energy, achievement, and growth. When I first joined NLCS, it was a much smaller place, both in numbers and in presence. Over the years, I’ve watched it grow—not just in size, but in ambition, diversity, and in the sense of purpose with which both students and staff meet each new challenge. As the Global Awareness Ambassador in the Big 6, I hope that I’ve been able to contribute to that growth in some form. Perhaps more importantly, this role has allowed me to see just how much goes on behind the scenes. From teachers to support staff, there’s a collective commitment to making NLCS more than just an academic setting. It demands a lot, but in doing so, it pushes us to rise, adapt, and mature.
A word to the younger students: at the time, we don’t always see it. But now, as the Class of 2025 prepares to graduate, I understand just how much this community has given me—and how much it means. So, to those still in the middle of it all: while it’s natural to focus on the future—on individual goals, university, and the next steps—don’t overlook what’s right in front of you. As cliché as it sounds, it will all be gone before you realise it.

Day 2025 GRADUATION
BIG
2025 - 2026
As your newly appointed Big 8, we are very excited for the upcoming year. We aim to improve student life across the Senior School, by empowering student voices and providing students of all ages with more opportunities. The Big 8 have had a structural change in terms of areas of responsibility, with the introduction of the NLCS Alumni, the Arts, and Community. These new areas, alongside the existing ones (Student Voice, Global Awareness, Service, Wellbeing, Societies), will allow for the enrichment of the NLCS community.
Being a student at NLCS means being given countless opportunities to grow and develop. Whether it be ranging from the wide array of external speakers who join sixth form students to share their insights, or emphasizing student wellbeing, the Big 8 are here to lead through service, in order to provide floors – not ceilings – to all members of our community. We cannot wait for what is to come!
