Now that we are settled in from Convention in Louisville, Kentucky. I would like to congratulate our winners! Best of Opposite Sex Breed was won by Cody Landis with his Broken Senior Buck. And Best of Breed was won by Makayla Wallock with her AOV Senior Doe. Also, congratulations to all of the group and opposite group winners! Now that Convention has come to a close, the next event to start planning for is Nationals.
Nationals is being held in Stillwater, Minnesota in April of 2022. Which means planning breedings should be next on the agenda! Planning breedings, meaning setting a date to breed to have the ability to have mature juniors at an event. To have mature juniors, in my opinion, would be a junior just on the verge of turning 6 months of age. These juniors usually have a better chance at winning due to having the mass and
coat structure that younger juniors usually lack. When planning these breedings you have less of a chance of showing these juniors when they hit their “uglies”. The “uglies” is what I call a junior Jersey Woolies first molt. It is typically called that because that is the phase in which the junior is molting, their head is popping, and they are gaining muscles that they did not have before. Jersey Woolies are a breed you also have to be patient with, their “prime” is typically at 2 years of age. But this can vary by the line you are breeding. I always say, you know your rabbitry best. Be sure to keep on eye on the National Jersey Wooly Youth Group page on Facebook for more information on this. And just a reminder, the National Jersey Wooly Youth Group is Youth only, so please join if you haven’t!
