Greetings, everyone!

I hope this addition of the Fluff finds you well and that your nest boxes are thriving with baby bunnies. The past couple of months have been quite bustling for all of us on the board, and I would like to take a moment to express my heartfelt appreciation for our team's dedication and collaboration. Together, we are making significant strides in strengthening our club. I encourage you to review the Record of Votes to reflect on the accomplishments we have achieved in such a brief period.

Our board has worked hand-in-hand, and I am pleased to report that several committees are actively engaged in making progress on our mission. The CBL Committee has diligently revised language to ensure clarity and accessibility. Additionally, we have successfully started a committee dedicated to fundraising efforts. We also have a specialized committee focused on the NJWRC Nationals, committed to making our annual event a resounding success for all participants.

A special note of gratitude goes to the Sunflower Rabbit Club for their exceptional hosting of this year's Nationals! They not only created memorable experiences but also organized an outstanding banquet where the awards were a delightful highlight. Thank you to everyone who played a part in bringing this event to fruition. It was truly inspiring to see the level of competition this year in both the Open and Youth categories.

I would like to extend my warmest congratulations to Makayla Wallock for earning Youth Best of Breed (BOB) with her Shaded Junior Buck, and to John Harris Anderson for winning Youth Best Opposite Sex of Breed (BOSB) with his Self Senior Doe. In addition, our Open BOB award was claimed by Madelyn DeSelm with her Broken Senior Buck, while Carlie Wood received BOSB with her Broken Senior Doe. Congratulations to all participants on your remarkable achievements!

As we move forward from Nationals, it is important to begin preparing for our next significant event - the special election for the District Director positions - scheduled for July. We will be realigning our current districts into seven, which will result in the loss of two districts and their Directors.

President’s article continued. . .

I will certainly miss any of our current board members, as each have contributed immensely to our collective success. However, I firmly believe that these changes will enhance the future of the NJWRC and fortify its foundation for years to come. Thank you all for your continued support and commitment. It is hard to believe that Convention is only six months away! There is still much to be done for this Convention to be a successful event. This year, the 102nd convention will be held in Indy. It is sure to be an exciting event! I am really looking forward to the awards this year. We have a great group of people who have stepped up to volunteer with the organizing and planning for them, and I would like to take a moment and thank Bailey Ledesma Perez, JoAnna Snider, Austin Wesley Cole Nash, and Kathy Hillary! You guys are awesome and so very appreciated. I can attest to how much planning and time this project takes. Thank you!! But let us be honest, great awards and winning BOB or BOSB are the icing on the cake. And speaking of icing on the cake, this year’s banquet will ensure that we have plenty of time for the awards to be handed out. Make sure to check out the member’s page for updates on the banquet.

As some of you are aware, each year the NJWRC holds the Golden Fleece Auction (GFA). This allows members the opportunity to buy an animal they may otherwise not have the opportunity to purchase. The funds from the auction will be split 50/50; fifty per cent will go to the seller of the animal, and the other fifty per cent goes to the club, or the seller can donate 100% to the Scholarship Fund. The Scholarship Fund is solely funded by rabbits that are 100% donated to the Scholarship Fund. There is also an auction that is specifically for the youth, which is held right after the GFA. If you would like to enter a rabbit into any of the above categories but were not asked, we encourage you to fill out an application to do so. The application can be found on our website, jerseywooly.org. Please feel free to reach out to Michelle Landis and/or Julie Aversa with any questions regarding the GFA.

As always, I can be contacted at njwrcpresident@gmail.com with any questions or concerns.

Thank You!

NJWRC President Alex Williams

Vice President Julie Aversa jtaversa@gmail.com

I loved seeing so many wonderful photos from Nationals. Congratulations to all who participated. We had bald rabbits here, and we very much were experiencing fomo.

Now is the time to start looking forward to the ARBA Convention in November in Indianapolis, Indiana.

I want to give a brief overview of how our club is funded:

1/3rd is proceeds from sanctions for all-breed and specialty shows 1/4th is ½ the proceeds from the Golden Fleece Auction

1/14th is from proceeds from the Trio Raffle

1/16th is from proceeds from the Silent Auction

1/16th is from membership fees

1/100th is proceeds from the boutique sales

The Golden Fleece Auction (GFA) is a very important factor for the NJWRC vitality. I am so grateful for those people who have donated, and continue to donate, to this important event. Now is the time to start evaluating your herd for a donation. As costs are rising for everything in today’s world, our club also must continue to stay solvent. I urge you to consider donating a rabbit that proudly represents your rabbitry. This past National show was influenced by two previous GFA animals. What a wonderful testament to our wonderful donor members.

The annual Youth Scholarship, awarded by the NJWRC, includes two $1000.00 scholarships. The Scholarship Fund is supported by rabbits that are donated at 100% to the Youth Scholarship in the Golden Fleece Auction. So, we need to raise $2000.00 by donated rabbits. If you are looking for a great way to support your club and the Youth, please consider donating a rabbit to the Youth Scholarship.

The Trio Raffle includes donated rabbits, usually from the previous Convention and or National winners.

There is also a silent auction at the banquet and we are always looking for donated items. Last year we did a basket from each district. If you have any theme ideas, please reach out to a board member and let them know, or post on our NJWRC members’ page.

I am also excited that we now have a Fundraising Committee that is just now getting things up and running. I look forward to what great things are coming in the future.

Many things have been happening on the board over the last few months. Please do not forget to check out the Record of Vote.

Here is to having a great year!! May your nest boxes be full.

Greetings Wooly Peeps!

NJWRC Secretary Gail More

I hope you all had a fluff-tastic spring and are looking forward to summer! Winter/Spring seemed to drag on forever here in Ohio. I am very much looking forward to some nicer weather. It was nice to take the time off work to travel to Kansas for Nationals. It was definitely an adventure with a 16+ hour drive. The weather couldn’t have been better. So, it was a bummer to come back to cold Ohio and then come down with the “after Nationals crud.” Overall, it was a great experience, and it was nice to meet a few new people.

The National Club has been working hard on making some changes that hopefully make enhancements to the club and allow more interactions with all of you awesome members! The Members Only Facebook group is a great way to get your information and interact with other members of the club. If you haven’t joined yet and you are on Facebook, reach out to one of our club officers if you are FB friends with them. Or, you can request to add me as a friend and I will add you to the group! We will be doing an audit to see who is in the group and who isn’t. So, if someone reaches out to you, that’s why!

As we wind down this year’s sweeps, it may be a good time to make sure you are a current member of the NJWRC so you receive all of your deserved Sweeps Points! Membership is a MUST!! Check your emails regularly for email reminders that your membership is about to expire, especially if you think it’s close to that time of year! I do try to tag people in the membership group as well as reach out through Messenger. You do get a grace period. So, you get a little wiggle room to get your renewals in! PayPal payments are the best way to pay fees as snail mail isn’t very reliable. We will have ballots out soon for the special elections for the new districts. So, definitely keep an eye out for that. If I don’t have an active and current email on file for you, you won’t receive your ballot. Once those go out, if you don’t receive one, please reach out so we can get your information updated!

Hopefully the rabbits cooperate with breeding. Then we all will have some fresh stock to show at the fall at Convention! May your nest boxes be full!

Thanks!

RHDV-2 Vaccinations

This year is shaping up to be a banner year for both McKenzie River Rabbitry and my beloved Pointed White Jersey Woolies! We've shown more than ever before - and have won at least one Best of Breed win with different rabbits, at every show.

One show I was excited to attend was the West Coast Classic in Reno. I planned to enter my top show team. However, after RHDV-2 was confirmed in a neighboring county a week before my entry, I made the difficult decision to reallocate my travel funds to vaccinate 90% of my herd. This meant I also chose to pass on a few local shows in Oregon. I was disappointed, but I felt it was the best decision for the long term health and safety of my precious genetics.

Honestly, I was hesitant to vaccinate a couple of my lactating does and a pregnant doe. However, Dr. Sheri Schlorman at Creswell Veterinary - a small animal veterinarian with a lifelong love for rabbits - assured me it would be okay. I've trusted Dr. Schlorman to care for my herd for over a decade, and trust her professional, evidence-based opinion.

The first round of Medgene RHDV-2 vaccines was given on May 1st. The vaccine reactions were varied. Some rabbits exhibited mild lethargy, while others showed no symptoms whatsoever. The good news is that my nursing doe had enough milk production, and my four-year-old doe kindled three healthy kits.

One notable observation was a heavier molt in approximately half the herd, and yes, the percentage included Pip, our Grand Champion and multiple leg winner. However, it could be due to the rain or the change in our feed, from Bar Ale to Heinold Wool, or a combination of both.

My herd will get their boosters next week, then, two weeks later, they will have complete immunity for the remainder of the year. I’ll have to vaccinate again next year, but only for a booster and not two shots. And, of course, any JRs that I plan to keep will also receive the vaccination.

Vaccinating is not cheap. Medgene is an American-made product, and it is priced on the higher end. Bulk purchasing of the product is not available. It is almost impossible to offer the vaccine in a clinic setting for an affordable price. Even though it’s expensive, the value of knowing I am protecting my rabbits from a deadly, painful disease outweighs the cost. And it just means I must be that much more strict with culling and keeping the best of the best for my herd.

In addition to vaccination, I adhere to strict biosecurity protocols. The rabbits are housed in a garage with two windows and a roll-up door. I have controlled flies and other pests by attaching a secure sunscreen barrier around the garage door. I also use Country Vet Fly and Mosquito spray. I make sure that when I enter the rabbitry, I step into a Virkon footbath or wear shoes for the sole purpose of the rabbitry, and I do not wear outside footwear in the rabbitry, etc. My facility is not perfect, but I am doing everything possible to protect the health and well things. It's clear that preparation and care can help mitigate risk from RHDV

West Coast Classic (WCC) was also held recently. There were JW exhibitors there, open and youth, to represent our lovely breed! We had people from CA, OR, UT, and WA! The War of the Wool Specialty, judged by Ted DeLoyola, earned Michaeline Marie a BOB and a BOSB! The Jersey Wooly Specialty was judged by Scott Rodriguez. Angela Holbrook got BOB and BOSB! Show A was judged by Eric Stewart. Angela Holbrook got BOB and Maddy Doling got BOSB! Show B was judged by Daniel Barrett. Angela Holbrook got BOB and BOSB! Show C was judged by Fayth Young. Lori Robasciotti got BOB and Angela Holbrook got BOSB! Way to go everyone!! It was so great to see all of you!!

This is the last article before the special election for the new districts. No matter who you vote for, or what district you're in, please remember to vote! New boundaries are, hopefully, a way for us to enjoy our friends and find new friends within the wooly world! Please know I will always do my best to be there for each of you, in my district or not. It's been my honor and pleasure to have served

m back again with more fluff-tastic updates from District 4! re reading this, the excitement from Nationals will have settled, and planning for breeding those Convention juniors will be the next big decision on everyone's mind. I’m so pleased to share that our District 4 members did fantastic, both in Open and Youth, with group and breed wins, in breed shows. A huge thank you to the Kansas crew for hosting such an amazing event! It truly takes a village to pull off a show of that magnitude, and you all did an incredible job.

As we hop into the spring show season, it’s a great time to talk about the importance of good sportsmanship. In the lively world of rabbit shows, good sportsmanship matters just as much as good genetics and great grooming. While our fluffy companions often set an example of grace and poise, it’s up to us, their humans, to lead by example and uphold a spirit of fairness, kindness, and respect.

Good sportsmanship isn’t just about shaking hands (or paws!) after a competition. It’s about celebrating the joy of participating, learning from every experience, and lifting each other up along the way. Whether you're a seasoned exhibitor or attending your very first show, showing good sportsmanship helps build a warm, supportive environment for everyone, rabbits and humans alike.

We can do this by setting a positive example, strengthening our rabbit community, encouraging growth and learning, and celebrating the true spirit of competition. Winning a ribbon is always exciting, but the real prize is the bond you build with your fellow rabbit exhibitors and the memories you create together. Good sportsmanship keeps the focus where it belongs - on fur friendships, and a shared love for these amazing animals not just on trophies, awards, and sweepstakes points.

Remember to stay gracious whether you win or lose. Lend a helping hand to newcomers who may feel overwhelmed. Always be kind. You might be the reason someone chooses to stay involved in the breed and the community. At the heart of every show ring is a community built on compassion and respect. Let’s continue to make our rabbit world one that’s filled with happy hops, kind hearts, and good sportsmanship that everybunny can be proud of.

Stay fluffy!

What made you choose Jersey Woolies as the breed you wanted to raise and show? Jersey Woolies started out as a “hand me down” breed from my older brother. I quickly found friends at the Jersey Wooly show table. I love how the Open breeders always stay to write or watch as the youth Jersey Woolies are shown. Keely Floyd was my first rabbit friend. She and I like to help each other, talk, cheer, and encourage one another at every show. When we first started, she and I were the only ones in our area to show Jersey Woolies. At one show, Don Mersiovsky was judging and as soon as he announced BOB, Keely and I both cheered. He laughed and said, “Which of you won?” We take all our BOB pictures together and celebrate every win. As more people begin to show, our friend group just gets bigger and bigger. My favorite people at the show are my friends at the Jersey Wooly show table.

What is your favorite variety of Jersey Wooly? Agouti

Tell me about your favorite Jersey Wooly and what made it special. I’ve been showing Jersey Wooly for 4 years. Mega was my favorite Jersey Wooly of all time. He was the first baby my hand me down rabbits had. Watching him grow up made me realize that raising rabbits was the hobby for me. I wanted to raise more!

What is your goal for this show season? To get a well-defined agouti. This season was the first season that I set a goal. I have always just wanted to have as many kits as I could. But Jersey Woolies have so many varieties that I want to focus on one variety and work to do it well. My friend Keely is focusing on the Self and AOV varieties so, I’m leaning more towards the Agoutis and Tans. My BIG goal would be to have the best Jersey Woolies eventually coming out of our two barns.

2025 National Jersey Wooly Show Hutchinson KS Open Best of Breed

Madelyn DeSelm and Link

I’m incredibly proud to add Best of Breed at the 2025 Jersey Wooly Nationals to Barnwood’s Link’s list of achievements. A win like this once felt like a distant dream when I first began showing and breeding rabbits. Link is a truly special rabbit, out of Hot Shot’s Savvy and Barnwood’s 21, with a lineage that includes outstanding rabbits from Vera, All-Star, and Baby Blue lines. Even as a baby, I knew Link would be special. Attending Nationals was a last-minute decision, which makes this win feel even more surreal. As luck (and good timing) would have it, Link came into a beautiful coat just in time for the show.

I’m deeply thankful for all the support I’ve received on this journey. Without my rabbit show peers, I would not be where I am now.

2025 National Jersey Wooly Show Hutchinson KS

Open Best Opposite of Breed

Carlie Wood and Hopewell’s Cherry Bomb

Imagine my surprise when Hopewell's Cherry Bomb won Best Opposite of Breed in the Open Division! It's an incredible honor to have this big win, especially since it was my first big show as an Open exhibitor! While I couldn't attend in person due to classes, my mom took our rabbits to the National Show, and I forced her to keep me updated on all the rabbits (probably much to her annoyance). I was in awe as I hovered over my phone, anxiously waiting for updates from my mom as I sat in my dorm room.

This doe is a beautiful result of around 8 long years of working on my Agouti lines with Ms. April Sefcik (although the doe came out of April's barn). She is only about a year and 5 months, and I can't wait to watch her mature even more. April and I often work together by swapping rabbits or through co-breedings. Cherry Bomb is out of Hopewell's Wait & See and Hopewell's Calista, who is out of Snugglebun’s Carlotta.

We (as in Cherry Bomb and I) are now happily at home in Ohio, where she has five adorable kits that we're very excited for!

District Five Brenda Kneir

mobunniesrabbitry@yahoo.com

Representing: Illinois, Kansas, and Missouri

Hello District 5!

I want to start by saying “Thank You” to everyone that came and helped out with Nationals! The Sunflower Jersey Wooly Club and Central Regional Rabbit Club hosted a great show this year.

District 5 was well represented by 3 open breeders (Melissa Tillery, Haley Tillery, Brenda Kneir), and 5 of our youth (Colson Enfield, Jenna Higgins, Eleanor Lefebvre, Daphne Rider, Jordan Tucker). We had some good placings, especially from our youth! Speaking of our youth, they have been doing a lot of showing and winning this spring!

As of July 1st we will no longer be District 5; we will become District 4. Unfortunately, Kansas will no longer be in our District. District 4 will be made up of Illinois, Missouri, Iowa, Wisconsin, and parts of Canada. For personal reasons, I plan on stepping down as your director at this time. I will still be involved in the club and you can reach out to me anytime you have questions about anything.

I hope you all have a great summer!

Hello everyone!

Spring weather has definitely arrived here in Tennessee. Nationals was a fabulous time. Congratulations to all the winners. A huge thank you to the clubs that helped put on the National Show. Everyone did a fantastic job. Now is the time to get to breeding for convention juniors. I know a lot of the District 6 members have been busy showing and I want to congratulate everyone on their show wins. Don’t forget to email your wins and pictures to sweaterweatherrabbitry@gmail.com so I can include them in the Fluff. I personally had the following wins:

Dalton Triple Show in Dalton, GA- Specialty Show A: BOB with Sweater Butts’s Cletus T Judd and BOSB with Sweater Weather’s Teeter

Dalton Triple Show in Dalton, GA- Specialty Show B: BOSB with Sweater Butts’s Cletus T Judd

I hope everyone has a fabulous summer. Convention will be here before we know it.

I truly hope everyone is doing well and is enjoying their rabbits. Spring is always the most exciting time of year because everything is new and fresh. The rabbits are usually looking their best and there are plenty of shows to go to. This spring has been very good for our district members and I'm excited to share the show results for those who have been out exhibiting and bringing some eye catching Jersey Woolies to the show tables.

I was told the spring National in Hutchinson, KS was a huge hit, with a great turnout of gorgeous Jersey Woolies, a wonderful banquet, and overall a really fun weekend of rabbits. I was so pleased to hear this. Congratulations to everyone who participated.

I'm proud to say that our district was well represented at the JW National by long-time breeders/ exhibitors Steven Buell and Connie Forward of NY. Steven and Connie achieved many things, including BOG Self, BOSG Tan, and a handful of class wins/top placements. They also earned Best Wool and Best Display at the National Show. In addition, in the all breed show, Steven and Connie won RIS/BOB/BOSB with Broken doe and Self buck. What an immense success!!! So proud and so happy for you guys!!!

On top of their wins at the JW National, More’s Give Me More, a Self Sr buck, exhibited by Connie and Steven, also earned a BIS in MD on 4/5 and a RIS in Fonda, NY on 4/26. That guy is on fire!!! Congratulations!

In addition, one of our district’s most promising youth exhibitors/breeders, Kylie Estrella of NY, exhibited Higher Expectation’s Bluebell, a Self Sr doe, at the Tioga County Fair, earning a BIS and a RIS in youth. An AWESOME win and a GORGEOUS rabbit! Congratulations Kylie!!!! Refer back to the previous edition of the Fluff to read her Spotlight article and to see more of her beautiful rabbits. I also want to add that Kylie and her mother Robyn are responsible for the club’s apparel. You can now buy any of your NJWRC essentials from them at Victory Pass Originals, featuring the new JW logo. They do great work and you won't be disappointed with their new merch!

To end my attempt at an article, I'd just like to say that I am very excited for the upcoming district election in June and the implementation of the new districts. District 7 will remain very much the same, however it will now include MD, NJ, DE, PA and the Canadian provinces of NL, NB and QC. I expect this will be a great change. I'm not the best writer and I have not been very involved with the rabbits or the happenings of the club, which is why I am hopeful that the next District Director will be able to serve the board and the membership of District 7 much better than I was able to during my brief stint.

Good luck to everyone on their future wooly endeavors. I really hope I can get out to some shows one day to visit and admire everyone's beautiful Jersey Woolies.

For those of you who made it to the 2025 National in Kansas, know that it was a fun show. Thank you to the Sunflower Jersey Wooly Rabbit Club for hosting! For those of you who could not attend, I hope you can make it to the 2026 Nationals in Canton, Ohio. It is fun to go to other places and meet breeders who may not be in your area. Along with that, we are looking forward to hosting the next one!

D8 did a great job representing the Woolies at Nationals with some great wins! Congratulations to everyone! BOB - Madelyn DeSelm with her gorgeous Broken Buck. If there are any youth that would like to be featured in the next D8 newsletter, please send me a message.

As you have already heard, the NJWRC is having a special election due to the change of Districts. Remember, to make this club run smoothly, it takes several volunteers. If you wish to share your ideas and/or offer to help in any capacity, don't hesitate to contact your District Director. We are normal people. Many hands make light work. Will you be planning to attend the 2025 ARBA Convention in Indianapolis? Often, several volunteers are needed to decorate the booth, man the booth, run rabbits, etc. We would love your assistance!

Representing: Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia, Washington DC, and all other foreign regions

I hope that all of you have nest boxes and junior cages full of beautiful Jersey Woolies. It was so much fun getting to see and chat with everyone at JW Nationals in Hutchinson, KS. Congratulations to all of the winners in Open & Youth!!

I hope everyone is having a wonderful and very successful spring show season. I love opening Facebook and seeing all of the major wins by Jersey Woolies. It shows that we, as breeders, have been excelling in our breeding practices and constantly improving our breed. I also love seeing how everyone in our breed is working together to help each other excel. Jersey Wooly breeders are an amazing group of people.

Now is a great time to get your spring cleaning and repairs done in your rabbit shed. Check your exhaust fans, air conditioners, and other fans/electrical for wear & tear and dirt build up. Clean and repair your cages, carriers, stacker wheels, cage floors, shed walls and floors. Replace the broken feeders and leaky water bottles. Vacuum loose fur/wool on cages and in the shed. A clean shed and cages make for cleaner, healthier rabbits and will also lessen smells and ammonia. Also, make sure to sanitize your nestboxes and other supplies. Sometimes we get so busy taking care of the adorable rabbits that we forget about the little things that make a large difference. Spring cleaning isn't always fun, but it is very necessary.

Karen Perkins

My name is Karen Perkins. My mom and I run Rose Patch Rabbitry! Currently we have around 15-20 Jersey Woolies in our rabbitry, which is located in Dauphin County PA. I first started raising Jersey Woolies when I was around 10 years old because of their small size and gentle demeaner. They are genuinely the easiest rabbits I have to take care of and groom.

My main supporters have been Christy Botson Przybylowski and Michelle Geiser Landis. Both helped guide me, and they are so much fun at shows. Another supporter of mine is Ally Rudy, my 4H leader.

My main goals in my rabbitry are to improve overall quality and consistency in my lines. Currently, I'm most proud of how far the heads, ears, and general stance of my rabbits have come.

My absolute favorite part of the hobby is the amazing community that comes with it, in addition to the privilege of experiencing such wonderful animals.

In addition to the Woolies, I also raise French and Satin Angoras, all of which I love very much. related memories that I think fondly of, but one notable memory is when another breeder and I accidentally took home each other s Jersey Woolies and didn't realize it until we

Max Byers

My name is Max Byers and I’ve been raising Jersey Woolies with my family for the last nine years. We originally chose to raise Jersey Woolies because my aunt dabbled with a few when she was in 4-H. My dad remembered the Woolies for their sweet disposition and recommended them to me as a great breed to begin with. Throughout my time raising rabbits, my dad has always been my greatest mentor. He taught me everything I know about rabbits and has enabled me to work hard and continue to enjoy breeding rabbits. Other mentor figures for me include Julie and Lindsay Aversa, for their continued advice and support in the world of Jersey Woolies.

For me, raising Jersey Woolies was always about taking what we had and breeding to create the best rabbits that we could. That’s what I enjoy most. I love to evaluate the rabbits myself and selectively breed them in hopes of combining their traits in the best possible ways. One thing that I’m really proud of with my rabbits is that the rabbits that we’ve been most successful with are those that we’ve bred and raised at home.

I’ve carried over my love of breeding rabbits into my second breed, New Zealands. We got into New Zealands through some county fair 4-H friends. Our county’s meat classes are not very big and they needed somebody to keep it alive. Naturally, we picked up a few New Zealands and, although they aren’t nearly as sweet as the Jersey Woolies, I enjoy them for what they are, and I have had fun learning about the meat classes.

Candidates for 2025 NJWRC Special Election

Bethany Robertson - Candidate for District 1 Director

Hi, my name is Bethany, and I’ve been raising and showing Jersey Woolies for most of my life. What started as a hobby I grew up in, quickly turned into a true passion - not just for the breed itself, but for the amazing community that comes with it. I’ve always believed in promoting Jersey Woolies in a positive, welcoming way and helping others enjoy them as much as I do.

Over the years, I’ve had the pleasure of serving as your District 1 Representative, and I’ve truly enjoyed connecting with fellow breeders, supporting exhibitors, and helping represent our district within the NJWRC. Whether it’s answering questions, sharing ideas, or cheering each other on at shows, I truly enjoy spending time with my fellow exhibitors and promoting our wonderful breed.

I’m running for re-election because I care about our breed, our district, and the people in it. I’d love the opportunity to continue serving and working with all of you to keep promoting and growing the Jersey Wooly community. Thank you for your support!

Angela Holbrook - Candidate for District 1 Director

Hello! For those that don't know me, I'm Angela Holbrook. I live in Utah, and am the current District 2 Director.

I love and am very passionate about my Woolies and getting the West more represented! I try my best to consider what's best for the members of the district that I'm in and what's best for the club overall. I also try to travel around to shows to get to know everyone, as time and finances permit.

Please always feel free to say hello, whether you're in my district or not.

Thanks! Best regards, Angela Holbrook

Bailey Ledesma - Candidate for District 2 Director

Hey everyone! I'm Bailey Ledesma, your current District 4 Director, and I'm excited to announce my candidacy for our new rezoning for District 2. Representing District 4 has been an incredible experience, and I am eager to continue serving all the amazing members in new areas.

During my time on the board, I've had the privilege of working with many dedicated members who make our club exceptional. It truly takes a village, and the commitment from everyone involved is unparalleled. I always strive to keep the best interests of our district's members at heart, ensuring your voices are heard and valued.

I'm thrilled about the future of Jersey Woolies and the growth of our club and breed. Being part of such a wonderful district with members who teach me so much is a blessing. I'm excited about our expanding online community and the new educational initiatives we will soon be implementing. Learning from fellow wooly enthusiasts and sharing knowledge has been incredibly rewarding.

Reflecting on my journey in rabbits, I remember the invaluable mentorship of the late Joy Bramhall, who prioritized youth and breed education. Inspired by my daughter's passion for raising and showing Jersey Woolies, I returned to the hobby with a goal to support the youth community, just as I was supported. Watching our youth gain confidence and enthusiasm to teach and support each other has been one of the most rewarding experiences.

As hobbyists, we must invest in our youth and each other, striving to represent and improve the breed. By modeling good sportsmanship, morals, proper show etiquette, ethics, transparency, and collaboration, we can ensure the future of the hobby is preserved for generations to come.

My goal is to continue the legacy of those before me, helping local clubs build interest in Jersey Wooly clubs and encouraging participation at the national level, with a strong focus on youth representation. As a director, I aim to grow membership and increase youth exhibitors in both open and youth categories, fostering a fun, supportive, and welcoming community.

Our amazing wooly breeders have shown us the importance of community, taking care of youth and new breeders by setting them up for success. Together, we can preserve the community and family aspect of the hobby, making it a joyful experience for all.

Jackie Milton - Candidate for District 2 Director

Hello Wooly Fam! My name is Jackie Milton and I would be honored to be elected the next District Director for District 2.

I started in the hobby in 2005, and after getting my first Jersey Woolies in 2009, I’ve never looked back! Instead, I’ve had my hands in many different projects including starting a regional Angora Club (Southern Stars Angora Club) and bringing the National Angora Show to the South for the first time in years! I’ve played a large part in growing the youth community in West Texas for the last 20 years, thanks to my mentor, the late Dr. Bob Berry. I have assembled multiple “Rabbit Schools” in West Texas to inspire youth in the rabbit hobby and increase numbers.

Using the enthusiasm I have had for West Texas Youth, I would love to help increase youth involvement at the national level within the Jersey Wooly breed, by encouraging the formation of a Youth Royalty Contest. That’s where I started, and it did wonders for me as a person! Many youth families have my phone number and know they can call me any time with any questions or concerns they have. I grew up in this breed, care deeply about it, and would love to see continued growth.

Because I am not married and have no human children, I get to devote lots of time to caring for my herd, showing them regularly, close to home and in other states, and helping others within this wonderful hobby. I am an ARBA Registrar and in the process of getting my judging license as well. An avid crafter, I delight in seeing people enjoy the items that I have created. When not hanging with my bunnies, crafting, or working my “day job”, I spend time with my four-legged fur babies (Banner and Duke), and my friends. Again, I would be honored to use these skills and learn new ones as the Director for District 2.

Sophie Melton - Candidate for District 3 Director

Hi! I'm Sophie Melton and I'm running for District 3 Director. I raised, showed and fell in love with our fabulous breed as a teen in 2001-2009. Then, after college, came back to them. The last couple of years I've stepped back from showing to raise my son, but I spent time on the board of a regional Angora club, judging local youth shows, and working on my herd.

I have a passion for this breed, and sharing it with others. I'd rather have a good time teaching and learning than stacking wins (though, that's always fun too). I'm well versed in coat color genetics and have a Bachelor's in Agricultural Leadership.

I would love the opportunity to help the NJWRC continue to be a great club, through the position of the new District 3 Director.

Makayla Wallock - Candidate for District 4 Director

My name is Makayla Wallock and I am interested in running to represent District 4. I have been raising and showing Jersey Woolies for almost eight years. Over the years I have met such wonderful people while enjoying this hobby. I would love to be able to share and promote the wonderful Jersey Wooly breed even more by running for District 4 Director. I have had many volunteer experiences in the rabbit world. Some examples are: helping to run fun shows, being a youth 4-H rabbit project leader, helping to write for judges, and working raffle tables at ARBA shows. I also enjoy mentoring and helping youth. I recently gave a presentation at Fond du Lac County’s 4-H Family Fun Day. The presentation covered the various rabbit breeds, how to pick out a good quality rabbit, and a showmanship clinic with hands-on practice. I truly enjoy sharing rabbit knowledge and experiences with others interested in this great hobby. Thank you for your consideration for this position. I would greatly appreciate my fellow District 4 members’ votes.

Laurie Wood - Candidate for District 5 Director

For those of you who don't know me, I, along with my daughters, have Snuggle Buns Rabbitry. We have been working with rabbits for about fourteen years. I am also a 4-H Advisor, and with that, am always striving to improve things.

I have been the D8 Director for a very short time and am finally getting acclimated to my duties, but of course, we are changing districts, so I am asking now to be the D5 Director (same area, different name)! I hope to be an asset to the breed and want everyone to feel that their director is approachable. I am human, I may forget a name or make a mistake, but I will do my best to be a voice for the district. Feel free to reach out to me at any time if you have any questions or any ideas that you would like to share.

Abigail Evans - Candidate for District 6 Director

Hey y’all! I’m Abigail Evans but I go by Abi. I am so excited to be running for my second term as your District 6 Director.

I have been raising Jersey Woolies since 2022. Jersey Woolies are definitely my heart breed and the wooly people make that much better. I am currently a member of the Georgia State Rabbit Breeders Association, Northwest Georgia Rabbit and Cavy Club, and West Georgia Rabbit Club. I am the Team Coordinator for the Georgia State Top Notchers junior youth team for the third year. I have helped get an amazing youth program going in Georgia after not having one for 30 years. This past January I helped coordinate the second ever Georgia State Top Notchers Winter Frenzy Show which was run by the Georgia State Youth Team members.

I am excited for the opportunity to be your District 6 Director and to continue my love for helping and mentoring the youth within NJWRC. If I am chosen as your District 6 Director, I promise to work alongside the other board members to continue to promote our amazing breed, especially within our youth. I want to promote a feeling of being like a family. I am always a call, text, or email away with any questions or concerns you all may have and would be truly honored to be your District 6 Director.

Michelle Landis - Candidate for District 7 Director

Hi, my name is Michelle Landis. I am excited to petition to become the District 7 Director for NJWRC.

I fell in love with Jersey Woolies 14 years ago when my daughter, Ashley, got her first one. The obsession has only grown as Cody took over the herd for a while and then, in 2021, we split the Jersey Wooly herd between he and I.

I am currently the District 9 Director for the NJWRC and love having the opportunity to serve and encourage my fellow breeders. I have also been a 4-H leader for Carrot Crunchers 4-H Rabbit and Cavy Club for over 10 years and love working with the kids. I am blessed to also hold the Treasurer and Show Secretary positions for the North East Jersey Wooly Breeders. I have helped plan and host JW Nationals in 2021 and am currently helping plan the 2027 JW Nationals in Auburn, NY. We currently have an absolutely amazing NJWRC board that is very motivated to work and plan for the future of our breed. I love how their first concern is always our breeders, both veteran and new, open and youth.

If elected, I look forward to continuing to work with the new board that will be elected this year. We have so many wonderful breeders with many amazing talents, and the future of our breed and national club is very bright.

Thank you, Michelle roughnecksm@verizon.net 215-896-9042

Hello NJWRC members!

njwrcsweeps@gmail.com www.njwrcsweeps.com

We’re in the final stretch of the 2024-2025 sweepstakes season! I’ve been with you all since the 2014-2015 season, so it seems it’s my 10th anniversary!

I’m going to keep this short & sweet. These points are for all shows dated 6/2024 through 4/2025 for which reports were received in good order prior to 5/14/2025. At this time, I don’t have any late reports that I’m overly concerned about, so that’s good news!

Now is the time to review your points!! If anything seems off at all, please contact me ASAP so we can get things resolved before the final mad dash. The points I post on the sweepstakes website (www.njwrcsweeps.com) are posted twice – once sorted by rank, and then again sorted by exhibitor. This should make it relatively easy to balance points between reports you’ve received and what I post.

Another reminder, since it’s come up again recently – shows absolutely can’t be sanctioned after the show! Please be sure to check the sanctioned shows listing. Even when I’m a bit behind on reports, I’m never behind on issuing sanctions. If a club has advertised being sanctioned but it’s not on my listing, please take a moment to research it further. Envelopes get lost in the mail, are mailed to wrong individuals, etc. Don’t take the chance when it’s so fast to check into it.

That’s all I have for now!

Till next time!
