The Nittany Valley Symphony, Inc. (NVS) is a community orchestra that has been performing in Centre County since 1967. Our mission is to inspire and enrich our diverse community through live concerts of the highest caliber symphonic music performed by professional and amateur musicians. As a community symphony, our musicians come from all walks of life but are united in their passion for making beautiful music.
The Executive Director is responsible for the overall management and operations of the NVS. The position reports to the Board of Directors and works closely with the Music Director.
Position Duties and Responsibilities
Primary duties include:
• Promotions and Fundraising. Maintain a networking presence in the community through involvement with the Chamber of Business & Industry of Centre County and other arts organizations; identify, cultivate and maintain relationships with current and prospective sponsors and donors; research and prepare grant proposals; arrange for advertising and public relations to promote NVS concerts and special events in conjunction with the Board Marketing Committee; and coordinate the production and mailing of the season brochure as well as other mailings.
• Concert Production. Coordinate with appropriate NVS personnel to schedule concerts, rehearsals, and other details pertaining to the concert season.
• Social Media and Website Management. Maintain an NVS presence on Facebook, Instagram and other platforms as deemed necessary; oversee the creation and maintenance of the NVS website, and the preparation and sending of email announcements to various audiences.
• Office Management. Supervise maintenance of a current database (including email addresses) of orchestra personnel and other stakeholder groups; oversee accounts receivable and payable; review and maintain budget; supervise volunteers; and complete other tasks as needed.
• Board Relations. Provide resources and information needed to members of the NVS Board and committees and Guild Board; attend all Board and committee meetings; and present monthly written activity and financial reports to the Board.

The successful candidate will have the ability to:
• effectively interact in the business community and serve as the public face of the symphony, sustaining a professional presence on behalf of NVS.
• work cooperatively with a variety of people, including musicians and volunteers, in the management of the orchestra.
• establish goals, set priorities, and manage multiple tasks.
• work some evenings and some weekends.
• work with Microsoft Office, QuickBooks and social media platforms. Computer knowledge is necessary.
Schedule
This position features flexible hours, with some time required in the NVS office and the option for remote work in the State College area. There is a requirement to work some weekends and evenings based on the concert schedule.
