Introduction Located at Wattle Street, the Ladder of Inner Growth is an amalgumation of three distinct philospohies or periods of history and religion that intetwine and come together to form a place of deep relaxation, serenity and bliss that is focussed on helping individuals search within and develop inner purity as a reflection of the exteral purity that the Urban Oasis provides.

Rooted in the Jain philosophy which originates from the Indian subcontinent - the three stages of inner development are Introspection, Contemplation and Meditation. There exists a very particular sequence in order to walk on the path of Self discovery - hence influencing the entire Urban Oasis to function as a ladder where you rise physically between the levels which results in dwelling deeper in the Self.

The Instrospective, Contemplative and Meditative spaces each serve as rungs of the ladder towards spiritual growth and are all influenced by very particular ideologies 1. The Instrospective Space relies on Japanese Zen meditative ideololigies and reflections in water with a warm calming temperature in order to insigate Self discovery.

2. Inspired by Ancient Roman baths - the Contemplative space is a transitory and provides an icy chill contrasting the previous warm temperature. That particular change is sudden and abrupt - leading to an increase in awareness.

3. The Jain Meditative space prompts individuals to float on the surface of the water with the aid of an extended headrest. The analogy is compared to a lotus : which is on the surface of water but untouched by it. Similalry, the religion showcases how inspite of being amongst the world, it is possible to remain untouched and unaffected by it.

External and Internal The double grid structure shades the internal areas and part of it extends onto shading the cafe which spills into the exterior.

Expressive (construction) The tree columns along with the double grid form an expressive structure that is vital to the design of the urban oasis.

Floating The tree columns that branch out to connect with the roof make the entire upper level and roof structure appear
