Nors Nidos meno kolonijoje gyveno ir dirbo daug menininkų, nepamenu tokio, kuris būtų abejingas briedžiams. Kad ir kokie skirtingi rezidentai susirenka į laikiną bendruomenę Kolonijoje, briedžiai sugriauna barjerus ir tampa gyvų pokalbių tema prie bendro vakarienės stalo. Pamatę briedį menininkai jaučiasi šiek tiek ypatingi ir „savesni“ Nidoje, tarsi įšventinti į slaptą, briedžius regėjusiųjų, broliją.
Although Nida Art Colony has already hosted many artists, I do not remember a single one, who would be indifferent to the moose. No matter how different the residents are within the Colony’s temporary community, moose brake the barriers and become the topic of lively discussions at the dinner table. Seeing the moose makes artists more distinguished and more “at home” in Nida, as if they were ordained in to the secret brotherhood of those who have already met the moose.
Neringoje yra ir daugiau maniakiškai traukiančių ritualų: ieškoti pajūryje gintaro ir/arba akmenėlių su skylutėmis, rinkti jūros išmestas šiukšles, valgyti stintas, – tačiau briedis kitoks. Akmenėlį ir ryškiai mėlyną virvagalį gali pasiimti su savimi, įsidėti į kišenę, stintą gali suvalgyti, įsisavinti. Briedžio namo neparsivesi (nors tokių sumanymų būta). Jis niekieno, net jeigu jį ir radai. Sutikai ir išsiskyrei. Greičiausiai ši momentinė, atsitiktinė, nesuplanuota (random) patirtis ir yra tai, kas labiausiai jaudina į Nidą atvažiuojančius menininkus. Susitikimas su briedžiu priimamas tiesiog kaip dovana. Paprasta, niekaip nuo menininko nepriklausanti ir greičiausiai neužtarnauta sėkmė. Atostogų romanas. Rezidencija Nidoje. Mėnesis arba du tolimoje Pabaltijo (ar vis tik Balkanų?) provincijoje su nežinomais žmonėmis, kurie pasirodo ir dingsta iš horizonto (kaip briedžiai), bet dalijasi ta pačia patirtimi, taip pat ieško briedžio. Kartais ir nepažįstamų žmonių neplanuoti susitikimai nušvinta kaip sėkmė. 2011–2012 m. rudenį, žiemą ir pavasarį VDA Nidos meno kolonijoje įvyko ne vienas toks švytintis susitikimas – tiek žmonių ir žmonių, tiek tarp žmonių ir briedžių. Apie juos čia ir papasakosim.

Although Neringa offers more obsessive rituals, like looking for amber and stones with holes on the beach, collecting trash thrown out by the sea or eating smelt, the moose is different. You can pick up the stone or a piece of bright blue rope and put it into your pocket; you can eat, i.e. appropriate the smelt. Whereas you can not take the moose home (even though such ideas existed); It belongs to no one, even if you found him. You meet and you part. Most likely this instantaneous, random experience is the thing which excites visiting artists most. Meeting the moose is taken as a sheer gift, a primitive luck, which does not depend on the artist and is most probably not deserved. A holiday romance. A residency in Nida – a month or two in the distant Baltic (or Balkan?) province with unknown people, who appear and disappear over the horizon (just as the moose), but share the same experience and also look for a moose. Sometimes encounters of unfamiliar people are also illuminated by luck. Several such luminous encounters (both between people, and between people and moose) happened at the VAA Nida Art Colony in the fall, winter and spring of 2011 and 2012.
