Message from the Principal As a school community we are all beginning to focus on 2017. Our Year 12 students, who are only weeks away from their VCE examinations have started the task of selecting courses and applying to Tertiary institutions in Victoria and beyond, considering their accommodation options, and making decisions about the next phase of their life beyond school. We wish them well in their discernment process of narrowing down their choices from the wide range of options available to them.

Subject choices for 2017 for students have been submitted and now we are looking at the student preferences and beginning the process of developing a timetable and staffing model that best meets the students needs. We are very excited about the new electives on offer, especially the expansion of App & Web design and Robotics in the Middle School. We are confident that the changed structure that we are implementing next year will enable more students to participate in more of the programs that interest, excite and are relevant to them. Over recent weeks our staff have been engaged in discussions about their professional plans for the coming year and these discussions are always exciting and stimulating. One of the delights and honours of being a Principal is being able to share in the professional aspirations of one’s colleagues and assist them to achieve their hopes and dreams. Over the coming weeks we will be asking our students to consider their leadership aspirations for 2017. I encourage families to have a conversation with your son or daughter about their personal gifts and talents that equip them for a leadership position. Becoming a student leader enables students to develop and strengthen leadership skills, connect with various staff and external agencies, assist fellow students with having their voice heard and share experiences and participate in state wide events for student leaders. Student leaders have the unique opportunity to learn and lead during their Secondary School years - an experience not easily replicated after graduation. As our aforementioned current cohort of Year 12 students are realising, for entry to a number of Tertiary courses, scholarships and campus accommodation, the demonstration of leadership capacity at school, in sporting clubs or in the community is a requirement. Now is the time for the younger members of the Bayview College community to explore the opportunities that will be presented to them over the coming weeks and aspire to attain one of the positions available. Leadership and learning are indispensable to each other. John F. Kennedy Dr Michelle Kearney
