POSITION: Native American Studies/Omaha Language Instructor Full-time Faculty, 12-month contract REPORTS TO: Academic Dean CLOSING: Until Filled LOCATION: Macy, Santee, South Sioux City, NE

POSITION SUMMARY: Instructor’s primary focus is teaching students the basic structure, grammar, and phonetics of the Omaha language. The additional responsibilities include supporting the promotion of the Omaha language, culture, and the community. The rresponsibility extends to teaching up to (4) classes of Omaha Language/Culture courses per semester. Teaching schedule may include assignments on other campuses, day and evening classes and coordinating or teaching immersion courses and programs. Serve on and attend college committees as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High School Diploma or Equivalency Required Able to demonstrate fluency in the Omaha language (orally and familiar with the Dorsey script) Able to demonstrate knowledge of Omaha tribal history, culture and customs Proficient in Microsoft Office applications Excellent oral and written communication skills College teaching experience is preferred as well as a familiarity with the use of technology (online learning management systems, etc.). The candidate must be able to show evidence of effective leadership and a background of proven success in working with students, administrators, faculty and Omaha Tribal Community.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree in Education or Indigenous Language and Literature or a combination of education and experience Minimum of two (2) years instructional experience, preferably in a community college setting; Experience instructing students from a diverse background preferred, using technology in the classroom and/or for distance learning, and traditional/nontraditional methods of instruction, using multiple measures to assess student learning. Candidate should have a proven history of high degree of self-direction and motivation, strong inter-personal, written, and oral communication skills. Qualified applicants must be able to perform the essential functions of this position with or without reasonable accommodations.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Candidates for teaching positions who are invited for an interview will be asked to demonstrate their fluency with NICC Omaha Elder Advisory Board
