Workforce Training Helps Businesses Thrive. To stay competitive in our economy, businesses need to train and upskill their current employees and new talent. Workforce development programs at Northeast Iowa Community College (NICC) keep employees trained on the newest technologies, leadership principles, regulations and best practices. These training programs are affordable, with many funded through the 260E Iowa Industrial New Jobs Training program. Training can include hard skills such as welding, industrial maintenance, heavy equipment operation, workplace safety and computer skills, as well as soft skills in human resources, management and leadership. Dupaco Community Credit Union partnered with the College for a 260E training agreement this year. Dupaco is applying the state-funded training toward a three-part leadership program developed with NICC, Emerging Leaders, Developing Leaders and Strategic Leaders.

DIANE KRENTZ JB Holland Construction, Inc. Working with NICC has been a breeze for our team. The convenient location on Main Street provides us an alternative training facility for our larger sessions and an opportunity for our team to step outside our offices. NICC has been flexible in assisting with unique room layouts, technology needs and even coordinating our catering for the day. It is great working with a partner that consistently delivers great service and ensures our team has a good experience while on-site.
Business and Community Solutions instructor, Celina Peerman, Ph.D., led the training programs for the credit union. She is an industrial/ organizational psychologist and HR consultant. Dupaco believes the leadership training matches the organization’s mission and emphasis on professional development.
“Being a bright spot in the lives of our members is not achieved through a financial product or service. It’s highly trained and dedicated employees who create positive relationships, emotional connections and lasting impressions. Dupaco places a premium on education, training and development. It continues to evaluate and improve all tools to achieve this – including Northeast Iowa Community College and Iowa’s 260E program,” stated Lisa Bowers, chief people officer for Dupaco.
Since the 260E state legislation was created in 1985, NICC has secured funding for 330 projects for businesses, creating 17,119 new jobs.
