Niagara College is committed to driving an integrated culture of sustainability that goes beyond operations at the college to create living laboratories to facilitate experiential learning for students, employees, and community members. In the fall of 2019, the college experienced its most successful Great Canadian Shoreline Clean-up event hosted by the Office of Sustainability in partnership with World Wildlife Fund-Canada. This year’s community shoreline litter clean-up, saw over 30 students clean-up over 200lbs of landfill waste between two sites. Some highlights include 526 plastic bottle caps, 491 cigarette butts, 278 drinking straws, a car bumper, a broken home water line, and multiple types of microplastic from one site alone!
