Introduction to our enrichment guide At NGHS we believe that enrichment activities are extremely important and help enhance the learning of our pupils. We strive to offer as many opportunities as possible to broaden each girl’s learning experience. The NGHS enrichment programme is designed to develop the “whole” child in wider skills such as leadership and initiative as well as improving confidence and team work.

Girls are able to access a whole host of fun and engaging activities which provide diversity of challenge, ranging from competitive team sports to gardening, Barber shop singing and choir, to fencing and orienteering. Each girl is treated as an individual and as such the enrichment programme is coordinated to suit her needs. Each term girls select a range of activities which spark an interest and curiosity within them and contribute to their enjoyment of school life.

We pride ourselves on the variety of activities offered to our girls. These activities fall under four categories: • Sport • Art, Music and Drama • Stretch and Express • Environment All activities offered to girls during lunchtime are on site and are free of charge. In addition we offer some off site after school clubs.

The enrichment offer at NGHS aims to broaden the horizons of each and every girl and we look forward to them sharing their new experiences over the coming year. In recognition of their individual talents and interests girls are able to apply for the NGHS Award.

YEARS ACTIVITIES AT A GLANCE

Girls select enrichment activities that are based on a red, amber and green system of commitment and challenge. On the whole, red activities require full year commitment, amber activities significant commitment and green activities may be for a short time duration or are available as ‘drop-in’ sessions.

Girls must, therefore, select appropriately based on their individual needs.

You keep a portfolio of work that is submitted at the end of the year for a sparkly certificate!

Creative minds and caring people wanted to work on planning, publicising and delivering events and activities throughout the year. Talk to: Dr Henshaw All year groups All year Friday KNIT AND NATTER Library Knitting club is open to pupils of all ages and ability. It doesn’t matter whether you’re already a keen knitter or whether you’ve never picked up a pair of knitting needles in your life - all are welcome!

At knitting club you’ll be inspired to create lots of knitted items; such as scarves, hats, phone covers and even knitted chicks at Easter. It’s also a great opportunity to relax and make new friends. So come along to Knit and Natter where you’ll create lots of beautiful things and get the chance to do some serious nattering!

Thursday ME4 Y11/12/13 in Autumn term, Y9/10 in the Autumn/Spring Y7/8 Spring/Summer Come and improve your problem solving skills! The UKMT Team Maths Challenge is for all students from Year 7 to 13. Not only is it fun, it also gives you the chance to develop mathematical dexterity, team working and communication skills with the opportunity to compete against pupils from other schools in our region. Over the last few years the teams have been very successful. Top scoring teams from the regional events are invited to compete at a one-day National Final held in London.

Activities include: • group competition • crossnumber • mathematical relay race Those who simply want to improve their chances in the individual competition can also attend the club.
