Abstract. AparallelarchitectureoftheLevenberg-Marquardtalgorithmfortrainingafeedforwardneuralnetworkispresented.Theproposedsolutionisbasedoncompletelynewparallelstructurestoeffectivelyreducehighcomputationalloadofthisalgorithm.Detailedparallel neuralnetworkstructuresareexplicitelydiscussed.

1Introduction

Feedforwardneuralnetworkshavebeeninvestigatedbymanyscientistse.g.[1], [10],[19],[23],[26],[37],[39].Gradientmethodshavebeenoftenusedtotrain feedforwardnetworks,seee.g.[14],[24],[38].Inthetraditionalapproachneural networkslearningalgorithms,likeotherlearningalgorihms[25],[28],[29],[31], [34],areimplementedonaserialcomputer.Duetothecomputationalcomplexity ofthelearningalgorithm,theserialimplementationisverytimeconsumingand slow.TheLevenbergMarquartalgorithm[15],[22]isoneofthemosteffective learningmethods,butrequiresparticularlycomplexcalculations.Unfortunately, forverylargenetworksthecomputationalloadoftheLevenberg-Marquardt algorithmmakesitimpractical.Asuitablesolutiontothisproblemistheuseof highperformancededicatedparallelstructures,seeeg.[2]-[9],[32],[33].This paperpresentsanewconceptofparallelrealisationoftheLevenberg-Marquardt learningalgorithm.Asingleiterationoftheparallelarchitecturerequiresmuch fewercomputationcyclesthanaserial implementation.Theefficiencyofthis newarchitectureisverysatisfyingandisexplainedinthelastpartofthepaper. AsamplestructureofthefeedforwardnetworkisshowninFig. 1.Thenetwork hasLlayers, Nl neuronsineach l th layerand NL outputs.Theinputvector contains N0 inputsignals.Theequation(1)describestherecallphaseofthe network
