The College Club of Dover Scholarships are awarded on the basis of scholastic achievement, initiative, service to school and community, as well as financial need. Applications are available in their respective guidance offices, and are due by March 29. For an impressive 86 years, the College Club of Dover has been carrying on a legacy of supporting women by offering scholarships, empowering the next generation of college bound women to take charge of their own futures, and make a difference in their own lives. and so much more. No matter what the ambition or endeavor, college is necessary. Unfortunately, it can also be extremely expensive as well. Girls attending college is commonplace now, but years ago, it was only a dream for the few. The College Club of Dover was founded in 1932, and thanks to the foresight and courage of Esther Dunning King and 12 impressive women, they sought to aid other young wom-
en in obtaining a college education. Together, they sought to encourage the solidarity of women and to stimulate interest in perusing their higher education, to look past their circumstances and succeed. And feedback for this organization has been overwhelmingly positive. Throughout the years, a Student Loan Fund was established. To date, more than 100 women have been aided by this organization, and more
than 140 scholarships have been awarded! This club does so much to help young women. A minimum of three scholarships are awarded of $1,000 each to outstanding winners. The ceremony takes place in May at the club’s annual meeting and spring dinner. One of the scholarships is even named in honor of Esther Dunning King, the founder of the College Club.
