SOMETHING IN MY SOUL

EMMA HARRIS, 11

There’s something in my soul, That I can’t quite understand, As if somewhere inside of me there’s a great black hole, Turning all my wisdom into simple grains of sand. There’s a feeling stirring inside these hollow bones, That I can’t quite place, There are doors into the great emerald unknowns, That I pray one day I’ll come across & come to face. There’s something coursing through my veins, That can’t quite be named, It’s as if I was filled with compassionate hurricanes, Each with a mission & winds that can’t be tamed. There’s a feeling sprung to life in this heart, That I can’t quite describe, Even a poet’s vernacular & an artist’s imagination couldn’t even begin to start, To make sense of the writing of the invisible scribe. But whatever it is that I have lurking inside, I know in my gut that it & not I is the one in control, And if it were to decide no longer to hide, Beneath the velvety layers of my soul, You & I would never be the same again, No, the world would never be the same again.
