Consultation outcomes

During April and May the team consulted with 251 members of the public in regards to the North Kesteven Centre refurbishment. In response to this the district council have amended and improved on plans for the centre by including: Seperate entrance with swipe card access to gym Seperate Box Office for Terry O’Toole Theatre Additional toilets in reception area with disabled access.

The first phase of the £3.6m refurbishment project for North Kesteven Sports Centre has begun.

As of the 16 June contractors Robert Woodhead Ltd began replacing the old sand based pitch with a new modern 3G Pitch, which will provide a great training facility to the Greenbank Football club, as well as be available for other uses.

The 3G pitch, which will meet both Football Association and Hockey Association standards is a blend of grass-like fibres attached to a special backing with a mix rubber crumb brushed in.

3G pitches are one of the major innovations of the last 10 years in the game of football. The development of these 3G Football Turf pitches now replicates the playing

characteristics of the best quality natural turf pitches, unlike those of the 1980s and 90s Mervyn Leggett, Chairman of The FA Pitches and Facilities Committee said; “The Football Association is fully supportive of the use of the Football Turf (3G) artificial pitches in the National Game. The FA recognises the value and benefit of Football Turf facilities to all involved in the game and the positive impact these facilities have had and will have in the future.”

It is expected that subcontractors Charles Lawrence Surfaces will complete the pitch by mid August dependent on weather.

Further refurbishment plans of North Kesteven Sports Centre itself will include, relocating and enlarging the gym space,

Council leader, Cllr Mrs Marion Brighton said: “We are thrilled about the introduction of a 3G pitch in the district, our commitment to leisure in this district continues and, we along with our leisure provider, Leisure in the Community have listened to what the School’s and Football Club’s want. We feel it is important to give something back to residents and visitors, and by providing somewhere that is a joy to go to we feel we are achieving as a District Council.”
