BACHELOR’S DEGREES IN

ARCHITECTURE

We offer two programs for students interested in pursuing an undergraduate degree in Architecture. The four year Bachelor of Arts in Architecture teaches you both the foundation of the profession as well as the advanced theories and practical application of creating inspirational structures in a sustainable manner. If you are interested in pursuing a career as a licensed architect, the Bachelor of Architecture program offers a five year NAAB accredited curriculum that will prepare you with the credentials and knowledge you need to pursue licensure in many states. Upon graduation, you can choose to enter the workforce or continue your educational goals through the Master of Architectural Studies.

MASTER’S DEGREES IN

ARCHITECTURE

The Master of Architecture program offers various tracks based on individual goals. Students can complement their existing skills while expanding professional horizons and work toward state licensure or can earn their professional degree in architecture accredited by the National Architectural Accrediting Board (NAAB). For a student who wants to learn more about the industry or go on to a teaching career, we offer a Master of Architecture I degree program. We also offer the Master of Science in Architecture program which gives licensed mid-career architects the opportunity to advance their professional knowledge and careers, with a NAAB accredited First Professional degree.

MASTER OF ARCHITECTURE

IPAL: INTEGRATED PATH TO ARCHITECTURAL LICENSURE NewSchool of Architecture & Design has been accepted to participate in the Integrated Path to Architectural Licensure (IPAL). This initiative provides students the opportunity to complete requirements for licensure while earning their graduate degree. Spearheaded by the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB), the initiative enables accredited programs to incorporate professional experience and examination into curricula. To learn more about IPAL visit www.ncarb.org/IPAL. Through the IPAL program, students can complete their NAAB accredited degree, professional internship and licensure exams in an accelerated timeline that saves students money and places them in their career field sooner. NewSchool’s IPAL program combines all of the requirements for professional licensure into a single, integrated pathway for students. This academic program offers students the opportunity to complete the Architectural Experience Program (AXP) requirements and take each division of the Architect Registration Examination (ARE) before graduation.

FOCUS YOUR STUDIES IN ONE OF THESE SPECIALIZATIONS AND EARN A MINOR OR CERTIFICATE MINOR IN CONSTRUCTION MANAGEMENT: The Minor in Construction Management gives undergraduate degree seekers an opportunity to complement their studies with a deeper understanding of managing a construction project.

Construction Managers work closely with architects to manage the building process to bring an architect’s design into the real-world.

NEUROSCIENCE FOR ARCHITECTURE CERTIFICATE: This certificate program guides students in an exploration of the juncture of the brain and the built environment. Students develop a working knowledge of the brain and learn aspects of how it processes spatial cues. Studio work in the certificate program utilizes an evidence-based design approach, grounding architectural concepts in neuroscience.

HEALTHY URBANISM CERTIFICATE: There is growing acknowledgment that the way cities and neighborhoods are designed directly impacts the health of residents, workers, and visitors. This certificate program provides a grounding in the processes and design strategies that promote healthful cities.

MEET THE HEAD OF THE ARCHITECTURE PROGRAMS

Leonard Zegarski Leonard Zegarski has been associated with NewSchool since 1999. During his tenure at NewSchool, he has brought experience, leadership, and professionalism in and out of the classroom. Zegarski has been a licensed architect for more than three decades. In 1999, his work as a professional was honored by the San Diego Architectural Foundation by awarding him with an Orchid Award for his achievement in both Architecture and Fine Arts.
