In our first CPD article in the January 2022 issue, Prof Carol Benn, Specialist Surgeon and Head of the Helen Joseph and Netcare Breast Care Centre, writes about a contemporary approach to early and advanced breast cancer (BCa), and Dr Devan Moodley, Medical Oncologist and researcher, based at the Wits Donald Gordon Medical Centre in Johannesburg, discusses the evolving metastatic BCa landscape. In our second CPD article, Dr Dr Kuban D Naidoo, Senior Paediatric Intensivist, Department of Critical Care, Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital, focuses on the use of intravenous paracetamol in paediatric patients. Two new products were launched at the end of last year. Semaglutide is a once-weekly human glucagon-like peptide 1 receptor agonist for the treatment of type 2 diabetes and has proven cardiovascular benefit. Treclin, an innovative treatment option for acne vulgaris - combining clindamycin (1%) and tretinoin (0.025%), - was launched in South Africa in November.
