Carbolite - laboratory chamber furnace (CWF) T he CWF range of general-purpose laboratory chamber furnaces is bench mounted. Models are available in five sizes, with a maximum operating temperature up to 1300°C. The airflow in the CWF-B furnaces is enhanced by the addition of air-inlet holes in the door and a tall chimney that rapidly removes the fumes from the furnace. The CWF-BAL furnace with integral balance can be used for thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and loss on ignition (LOI) applications, where weight change of the sample must be monitored during the heating process. This is required, for example, in the determination of inorganic matter content in materials such as cement, lime, calcinated bauxite and refractories.

Features: • 1100°C, 1200°C or 1300°C maximum operating temperature • 5, 13, 23, 36 or 65 litre chamber volumes • Carbolite Gero 301 controller, with single ramp to set-point and process timer • Vertical lift door keeps heated surface away from the user • Soft closing door on 5, 13, 21 and 23 litre models • Delayed start/process timer function as standard • Hard-wearing alumina element carrier, furnace entrance and hearth • Energy-efficient low thermal mass insulation • Free radiating wire-wound elements for optimum uniformity

Easy access to elements and controls simplifies maintenance and servicing CWF-B: Enhanced airflow from tall chimney and door vents for full combustion CWF-BAL: With integrated balance that runs independently of the furnace control system CWF-BAL: Software supplied with the balance may be used to monitor the balance reading via a computer CWF-BAL: Maximum capacity of balance is 3kg with a resolution of 0.01g (other capacities available)

Amino acid analysis just got smarter

W

aters Corporation has introduced the new Kairos Amino Acid Analysis Kit that reduces the time required to quantify amino acids - a critical application for research scientists investigating the physiological underpinnings of disease. The Waters Kairos Amino Acid Analysis Kit simplifies and automates LC/MS-MS quantification of amino acids in human plasma and urine. This LC-MS based kit with its unmatched accuracy across all analytes - makes it easier than ever to get fast, precise results. The Kairos Amino Acid Analysis Kit, which can bring run times to under 10 minutes, is fully

automated with manual options for physiological samples in both highthroughput (500+ samples) and lowerthroughput (100+ samples) amino acid analysis. Built on AccQ•Tag reaction chemistry, this kit makes retesting of samples a breeze, without the need for a dedicated amino acid analyser. The Kairos Amino Acid Analysis Kit consists of reagents, standards, an analytical column and associated methodology, and is capable of significantly cutting analytical run times when used as directed with supported Waters UPLC systems, mass spectrometers and Waters Targeted Omics Method Library. 1-1000g for subsequent analysis by instrumental methods or wet chemistry. Featuring strong construction and requiring little maintenance, the RM1000 has two clamping options available Pneumatic Airbag clamp and the Rotoclamp Mechanical clamp. • 1-phase or 3-phase power supply • Smaller head options can be used with an adaptor plate • Very low contamination of samples • Noise less than 85db • Low capital cost, long life

Other milling options available are the RM2000 (up to 1500kg), and the Bench Top Ring mill (up to 100g samples). Contact us also for crushing, splitting or automated options.

Anton Paar sets the benchmark for the highest digestion throughput

A

nton Paar’s flagship microwave platform - Multiwave PRO - has been given another major upgrade, which makes it even more appealing to ICP and AA users. The latest addition to the Multiwave PRO platform is Rotor 41HVT56: the highest throughput acid digestion rotor on the market, utilising the groundbreaking Smart Vent technology. Anton Paar’s Smart Vent technology vessels have no consumable parts, no protective jackets, no tools to close the vessels, and no membranes that need to be replaced. The result of these features is the easiest-to-use vessel on the market. Rotor 41HVT56 comes with 41 vessels with 56mL nominal volume and automated internal temperature control of each vessel. Various kinds of samples, including biological, environmental, agricultural, cosmetic and pharmaceutical samples, can be digested even in the same run. “Before the addition of this rotor to our portfolio, we already had the fastest

microwave digestion system on the market,” reports Linda Kuenstl, product manager for microwave sample preparation equipment at Anton Paar GmbH. ANTON PAAR SOUTHERN AFRICA (PTY) LTD Tel: (011) 021 5165/6/7 info.za@anton-paar.com www.anton-paar.com
