André Rieu

& his Johann Strauss Orchestra

The Vrijthof concerts, Maastricht 2025

Each year André Rieu, the ‘Waltz King of Europe’, performs a series of concerts in his hometown of Maastricht in the Netherlands. The Vrijthof concerts, set amongst the cultural backdrop of this beautiful town, have become one of the most popular concerts in his yearly schedule.

Acknowledged as one of the world’s greatest living musical legends, Dutch-born André Rieu was classically trained and is now an accomplished violinist, an excellent conductor, and a truly great showman.

With his orchestra, choir, soloists and special guests, he brings a delightful and innovative approach to his concerts, recreating the atmosphere of 19th-century Viennese dance halls. Rapt audiences sway with the music, hum along and even dance in the aisles – it all happens! During the concert – the highlight of each break – you’ll hear music from across André’s repertoire, from his first major hit album, Strauss & Co to his latest release. It will be a wonderful notto-be-missed experience!

Maastricht – a wonderful place to visit

The centre of Maastricht is compact and therefore easy to explore on foot. Large areas are pedestrianised, and most places to visit are within walking distance. The St Servaas Bridge links the old centre, including the Vrijthof Square, with the trendy Wyck district. You can cross back over the river via the modern suspension bridge, the ‘Hoeg Brogk’. With an amazing variety of sights, sounds and flavours spread along a compact network of attractive streets on both sides of the river, you’ll never feel lost.

A historic city centre is a fantastic place for endless shopping. Maastricht offers a rich and varied shopping landscape dotted with small upmarket boutiques, authentic speciality shops, and antique dealers.

When you’re ready for a break, you’ll find a wealth of cafés, brasseries and restaurants, where you can relax and recharge your batteries prior to your André Rieu concert in the evening.

Utrecht - a colourful canal city to explore

This colourful canal city, which was once one of the Netherlands’ foremost religious and political centres, boasts glorious medieval architecture. Packed with museums, galleries and boutique cafés, Utrecht offers a quintessentially Dutch experience and is perfect for a relaxed time on the waterfront. Perhaps pay a visit to Domplein Square for views of the towering Domtoren, an impressive 14th-century bell tower overlooking the city, and the magnificent St Martin’s Cathedral with its Gothic façades and garden courtyards.

You can also stroll along the picturesque canals lined with unique wharf cellars, which house cosy cafés and shops, creating a lively atmosphere. Don’t miss the iconic Dom Tower, the tallest church tower in the Netherlands, where you can climb to the top for stunning views of the city. Explore the fascinating museums, such as the Centraal Museum, which showcases Dutch art and history, or the Railway Museum.

With its beautiful parks, historic buildings, and a thriving culinary scene, Utrecht is a blend of tradition and modernity, making it an ideal destination for both relaxation and exploration during your break.
