New Hall School celebrated outstanding GCSE results in 2022. Staff and parents praised the students for both their excellent academic results and their resilience over the year.
Mrs Minnis, Head of Girls’ & Boys’ Divisions, shared her thoughts on the Class of 2022: “After the hiatus of the last two years, I am delighted to celebrate these excellent results with our students and their families. The hard work and determination of both students and staff, through thick and thin, have paid off and the students should be very proud of their achievements. The holistic education offered by the School provides the best possible preparation for our students to continue their studies in the Sixth Form.”
Outstanding achievers include many boarding students. Vice Principal, Mr Sidwell, said: “The benefits of boarding at New Hall are reflected in this year’s GCSE results, with a staggering 108 grades at 8+ (equivalent to A*) and a further 73 grade 7s (equivalent to A) achieved by the 30 boarders in this year group. The strong pastoral and academic support offered to our boarders have led to their gaining these excellent GCSE results. The time saved by taking away daily travel to and from School, as well as the dedicated study time and outof-hours help from academic staff enable our boarding students to excel in the classroom as well as to enjoy the full co-curricular programme of activities offered daily at New Hall.”

We are extremely proud of our students’ superb GCSE successes. Today’s results evidence the effectiveness of the ‘diamond model’ of education, in which girls and boys are taught separately from the ages of 11-16. The results are also testament to the hard work and resilience shown by the students and staff, throughout the challenges of the past few years.

Katherine Jeffrey, PrincipalIt is wonderful to see our students excitement today, after all their hard work. We are delighted to hear that so many of our students have secured places at their first choice universities, including competitive Russell Group university courses in subjects such as Law, Engineering and Medicine. The

Vice Principal, Dr Tiffen, said: “These students have performed exceptionally well. Having missed their GCSE examinations, this is the first time in their secondary education that they have sat formal external examinations, so the pressure was immense, especially after the past two years of interruptions through lockdowns. Our results are a testament to the hard work, resilience and ambition of both our students and staff who moved to online education with the enthusiasm and commitment they show in everything they do. We are delighted to share in the joy of our students today, as they find out that they have the grades needed to take up the university places of their choice, as well as other competitive professional and vocational courses and schemes. I am so proud of them.”

We believe that the learning habits required to achieve academic success can be nurtured in all our students and that even the most able can develop to even higher levels when set intellectual challenges and opportunities to think creatively.
This performance can be illustrated by comparing the performance of our most academically able students (those in the top sets/top third of their cohorts) in Years 11 and 13.
