Earn a Law Degree on Your Time

Part-Time Programs

Whatever your career goals and scheduling requirements, you will find the JD degree programs at New England Law | Boston to be comprehensive, flexible, and responsive to your needs.

New England Law | Boston offers three distinct part-time JD programs, designed around the unique needs of students at various stages in their lives and careers. They include day, evening, and flexible part-time law school options.

Juris Doctor (JD) Degree

Our JD degree program offers challenging coursework, specialized law clinics, and handson experience in a variety of formats. Students begin taking elective courses during their second year, allowing them to pursue their passion and choose their own unique path of study. Full-time students can take clinics after their first year, expanding their learning and building their résumé outside the classroom. With four programs of full-time or part-time study to choose from, students can tailor their law school experience and pick the program that suits them best.

Day Part-Time JD Program

The Day Part-Time Program is ideal for students who want more of the “traditional” law school experience but on an extended timeline.

Our Day Part-Time Program offers a flexible scheduling option that allows students to take fewer credits each semester and to earn their JD degree in a span of four years. Students on this track complete the same number of credit hours as traditional, three-year JD students, but complete that work in eight semesters spread over four calendar years.

Students in the Part-Time Program are able to select from the full-range of electives offered by the Law School, including participation in our extensive array of clinical courses, and the opportunity to participate in all extracurricular and co-curricular activities, including Law Review and Moot Court.

Easy access to daytime events, clinical opportunities, and more make this an ideal program for students looking for extra flexibility in their law school schedule.

Evening Part-Time JD Program

Going to law school during day, full-time may not be practical for everyone. Do you have a full-time job, or other responsibilities that make devoting your days to law school impossible? We have a solution-our Evening Part-Time JD Program is perfect for working professionals, or anyone else who needs a flexible nighttime option.

New England Law is the only school in Boston with part-time law school programs in both the day and night. Our Evening Part-Time Program allows you to keep your day job and attend classes at night. Admission procedures, requirements, and academic expectations are identical for New England Law’s Day and Evening Part-Time Programs. We are committed to maintaining the same faculty for both programs, so our full-time faculty members regularly teach in both.

Overview of the Evening Part-Time Program

When you attend law school part-time, you will be enrolled in a four-year program. After completing the first two years of required coursework, you will have the option to take Evening Program courses offered on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays (and sometimes Tuesdays) between 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. Many evening students also choose to register for courses held between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m.

The Evening Experience

Although the Full-Time and Evening Part-Time Programs are academically consistent, the experience of evening students is distinct. Evening law school students are often older than their day-time counterparts; they may have families; and many already have professional careers. These commonalities generate camaraderie and friendship.

Evening Program students take nearly all of their courses with the same classmates for the first two years, so personal bonds develop that often result in carpooling, weekend study sessions, and other practical assistance. Professors maintain flexible office hours to accommodate students’ schedules, and the New England Law Clinical Program works to fit clinics to students’ individual needs. In addition, Thursday evening - the end of the Evening Part-Time school week- has become a traditional time for Evening Program students to socialize and unwind.

Flexible Part-Time JD Program

Originally founded as a special JD program just for parents, the Flexible JD Program at New England Law | Boston has evolved to accommodate any students who would not be able to attend law school without scheduling accommodations, upholding our founding commitment to expanding access to the legal profession.

This special part-time program allows students to spend up to six years earning their JD, tailoring their law school schedule around an existing career, family responsibilities, or other work-life balance needs.

Overview of the Flexible Part-Time Program

In the Flexible JD Program, you will work one-on-one with a faculty advisor to personalize your schedule in a way that is tailored to your needs and allows you to go to law school part-time and earn a law degree. You will also work with our Career Services Office and law school clinic staff to find internships, externships, and other practical experiences that fit your schedule.

Finally, you will find a distinctively supportive environment at New England Law, one defined by personal attention, inclusivity, opportunity, and camaraderie.

Clinics & Externships

All of New England Law’s clinics and externships are open to part-time students. These opportunities are tied to classroom curriculum and provide hands-on, real-world experience during law school.
